Why teach descriptive writing?

It will help your students' writing be more interesting and full of details

It encourages students to use new vocabulary words

It can help students clarify their understanding of new subject matter

Types of descriptive writingDescribing a place: Writing a

descriptive essay about a place you have visited gives you the opportunity to convey a personal perspective or feeling about the subject location. Transport readers with descriptive and concise words that impart your own vision of a place.

Describing an event: you can describe personal event which is related to an individual experience,(and here we use the past tense and the passive voice in past participle). Or you can describe impersonal event such as annual event (and here you can use simple present tense and the passive voice in the present participle).

Describing a person: In this type you can describe the physical and personal traits of a certain person, and also you can describe your feelings towards him.

Activity 1 1-I have known Kate since my first day at school.

I still remember her smiling face as the teacher asked me to share the same desk with her.

2-Kate is quite short and slim. She’s got a round face with beautiful almond shaped eyes and a slightly upturned nose.

3-Kate is a kind of person who will listen to your problems and try to help you. She is also quite active and enjoys outdoor activities.

4-One of Kate's favorite hobbies is biking. Also she likes going to cinema and is especially fond of adventure films.

5-Over years, I have shared many good times with Kate. She has been one of my best and most trusted . I feel fortunate to have met her.
