Wristlet-Makup Bag Instructions

My SUGGESTION IS TO READ THRU ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE YOU BEGIN. CUT ALL PIECES IN

ADVANCE, AND SPRAY ALL PICESES AS YOU SEW THEM TO ENSURE GOOD CONTACT WITH THE

STABILIZER AND THE FABRIC

Supplies for 6x10 size

I pressed and spray starched all my fabric before I began sewing

Fabric: You Will need about yard total, cotton works the best

Outer Pocket

1 piece 8 w x 7 h Folded and pressed to measure 8 w x 3 h1 piece 8 w x 3 h Folded and pressed to measure 8 w x 1 h1 piece 8 w x 5 h this is the lining for the outer pocket1 Zipper, minimum 7 long. Do not use a zipper with metal teeth!Body of Wristlet2 pieces 5 x 51 piece 4 x 122 pieces 3 x 3

1 piece of thin cotton batting (Warm & Natural) 12 x 6

1 piece 12 x 8 This is the lining for the front of the wristlet1 piece 12 x 18 for the back & back lining folded & pressed to measure 12 x 9

I piece of thin cotton batting (Warm & Natural) 12 x 91 Zipper, 12 long. Do not use a zipper with metal teeth!Strap

1 piece of fabric 2 x 12Optional

1 Split Ring, 1 piece of Grosgrain Ribbon or matching fabric to measure 2 x 5/8, 1 Swivel SnapHook

1. Make the strap first to do this take your 2x12 piece of fabric and fold it in half lengthwise. Thisis the center. Fold one long edge up towards the center, press. Fold the other edge to thecenter in the same manor and press. Now fold it all in half again lengthwise. Sew down theedges of the strap and set it aside.

2. Hoop either tear away or Water soluble stabilizer. I used Floraini Wet N gone. Sew the firststep right onto the stabilizer. There will be two vertical lines that will sew. If you are using a PRmachine then the lines will be horizontal. In the pictures You will see two extra lines on mystabilizer, I am running low so I had to sew some long pieces together to make one large one.

SPRAY ALL FABRIC PIECES WITH 505 BEFORE YOU PLACE THEM INTO POSITION

Spray the zipper first then Place the 7 inch

zipper over the shorter placement line with

the coil of the zipper centered over the line.Have the pull at the top. The ends of thezipper will each gopast the placement line by about 1 on

each end.

Spray and Place the 8 x 3 folded pocketpiece along the teeth on the left side of thezipper.

Sew step 2. This step will secure the fabric.Next. The sewing will stop far enough back

from the zipper pull so it doesnt hit it.

Next you will place the 8 x 1 sprayed andfolded piece on the right side of the zipper.

You are going to lap it over a little. To makethe lapped zipper version, place the fold so thatit just covers the stitching that was

sewn in step 2.

Sew step 3. This step will secure the fabric.

After Step 4 sews trim each end (at the top & bottom only) to about from the stitching.Trim off the zipper ends too. Turn the hoop to the back and trim the lining the same.

Fold back the flap a bit and carefully unzip

the zipper about 4 inches.

The next step attaches the lining of the pocket.Remove the hoop from the machine and turn itto the back side. Place the pocket lining (8x5piece) on the back of the hoop. Have the rightside of the fabric facing down. Have the edgeseven on the right side (shown by the red line)Put the hoop back into the machine, makingsure the bottom piece stays flat.Sew step 4. This step will attach the lining.

Place 1 of the 5x5 pieces right side

down on top of design. Have the edgesat the top even as shown above by thered line. They will not be even at thebottom edge.Sew step 5. This will attach this piece.

Flip the piece just sewn up so the right side is

showing. See the direction of the red arrow.Spray the back side then smooth down with yofingers.

Sew step 6. This will sew a seam as shown bythe yellow arrow.

Place remaining 5x5 piece right side down on

top of design. Have the edges even as shownby the arrow. Sew step 7. This will attach thispiece. Flip the piece just sewn on to the rightside. Spray then smooth down with yourfingers.

Sew step 8. This will sew a seam to hold thepiece down, the red arrow shows the seamline.

Place the 4 x 12 piece, right side down on top of

the design. Have one long edge even with thestitching line that you can see in the middle section(shown by the red line). Sew step 9. This stepwill secure the fabric.

NOTE: This step will sew close to the zipperpull. Watch your foot to make sure the footclears the pull. If it doesnt then unzip it a littleas you sew.

Place the 12 zipper over the placementline with the coil of the zipper centeredover the line. Have the pull at the top. Theends of the zipper will each go past the

placement line by at least 1 on eachend.Use spray to hold the zipper in place.

Sew step 10. This step will sew a short

placement line near the bottom of the zipper,

as shown by the yellow line.

Place one of the 3 x 3 pieces right sidedown so that the edge is approximately beyond the placement line. The red line inthe photo represents the placement line thatwill be sewn. Sew step 11. This step willsecure the fabric.

Fold this piece so the right side is facingup. Spray it and press with your fingersto hold it snugly in place.

Sew step 12. This step will sew a seamto secure the piece.

CAREFULLY UNZIP THE ZIPPER ABOUT 4

INCHES. Make sure the teeth stay close

together on the unzipped part. My zipper

was tacked together at the top so that made

it really easy to keep it together, but most

zippers are not like that.

Sew step 13. This step will sew another short

placement line, the line is marked in red in

the picture to the left.

Place remaining 3 x 3 piece right sidedown so that the edge is approximately beyond the placement line. The

yellow line in the photo represents theplacement line that was sewn.Sew step 14. This step will secure the

fabric.

Spray then fold this piece so the right sidfacing up. Sew step 15. This step will seseam to secure the piece. See arrow.

After it sews trim both ends of the zippe

away to within about a quarter of an inch

from the seam line.

Spray and fold the piece that is covering thezippered pocket so the right side is showing.

Fold the long edge under (see arrow) so thait is even with the edge of the teeth of thezipper.

Read through this next step before proceeding.You will begin to sew step 16.

This step will secure the fabric to the zipper and secure the lining to the back.The zipper pull will be in the way.You will be starting & stopping your machine during this step.Unzip the zipper about 4.Start sewing step 16. Stop the machine as you near the zipper pull.Unzip the zipper a few more inches.

Stop the machine as you near the zipper pull.Unzip the zipper all the way. Sew until you reach the zipper pull. Stop the machine.Lift your presser foot.Push the zipper pull under the foot zipping the zipper back up.Have the zipper pull behind the foot a few inches then finish sewing step 16. Its really not as

complicated as it sounds.

REMOVE THE HOOP AND TURN IT TO THE BACK SIDE

You can see the zipper through the wss on

back of the hoop. Place the lining (12x 8piece) right side down so that 1 long edge even with the left edge, the fabric part of tzipper as shown to the left.

Use spray to hold this piece in place.

Carefully, place hoop back on machine. Ma

sure the fabric stays exactly where you plac

it.

Just do a little at a time and move the zipperpull. Use tweezers to adjust the zipper pull if

you cant get your fingers in there to do it.

Now its time to place the back/lining piece.Place the 12 x 9 piece of batting inside the 12 x 9 (folded) back/liningpiece.Secure with sprayOn the right side of the hoop, place the fold along the teeth of the zipperSew step 17. This step will secure the back/lining piece. See below. I

used scotch tape to help hold it in place.

Remove hoop from machine and turn it to theback side.

Place the 12 x 6 piece of cotton batting on back side of the hoop. Have one long edge ofthe batting

along the seam of the lining as shown by theyellow line.

Secure the batting with spray. Fold the liningover the batting smoothing it out. There is nophoto for this step. Just fold the fabric in the

direction of the red arrow so it lays over thebatting.Secure with spray. Flip the hoop back to thefront.

Ok Now its time for the strap.

UNZIP THE ZIPPER ABOUT HALFWAY!

If you have opted to add the additionalhardware, (as shown in the photo) placeonly 1 end of the strap and the 2 pieceof grosgrain ribbon or hand made tab, thas been folded in half as shown in phoSecure strap end and ribbon with scotchtape. Make sure the opposite end of thestrap is fold up in the center of the desigthat it doesnt get caught in the final sea

With the hoop on the machine, you cansee where the final step will start tosew.Place the strap as shown above so thatthe raw ends are about beyondwhere the needle will sew (shown bythe red line). Secure raw ends withscotch tape.

Fold the back/lining piece over the design. Secure with a pin on the top side of the hoop and in

the middle if desired.

Sew step 18. This step will sew the whole project together. When it finishes you can serge or

zig zag all the way around it. This is optional.

Remove the project from the hoop. Trim around the project about from the stitching.

Trim away the stabilizer from the zipper area to expose the partially unzipped zipper.Use a wet rag to dissolve remaining wss.Turn the wristlet to the right side though the open zipper.Push out all corners nicely.Unzip the other pocket and trim as much wss away as possible. Use a wet rag to dissolve anyremaining wss.I pressed mine when I was finished but remember it has Water Soluble Stabilizer (wss) insideso it will pucker a little. If you continue to press and steam it will eventually dissolve thestabilizer.If you opted to use the additional hardware, sew the snap hook to the end of the strap.Insert the split ring into the ribbon. Hook the split ring to the hook.
