THOMAS LAPORTE & CAMILLE BARNESNYS SOC EVALUATION TEAMCENTER FOR HUMAN SERVICES RESEARCH
RATIONALE FOR MEASURING COHESION
NYS SOC will feature a facilitation team
Team cohesion will be important
Team cohesion: degree to which team members work toward common goals and feel a sense of belonging to the team
Two purposes:o examine associationso enhance cohesion
MULTI-METHOD
Group Cohesion Scale (Treadwell, Lavertue, Kumar, & Veeraraghavan, 2001)
25 items rated on 4-point Likert scale
Two time points with ~3 month interval
Observation
Interviews
KEY CONSIDERATIONS
Frequency of measurement and time-points: How
stable is cohesion? Will it increase or decrease given the
nature of the work?
Unstable teams: vacant positions, staff turnover, more
than one individual per role, etc.
