New Port Richey, FL 34653727-375-2999

I was born and raised in North Western PA, attended college in FL and received a degree in Business Administration. I moved back to PA and met my wife of 27 years, then returned to school for nursing. We moved back to Tarpon Springs, FL in 1993 and recently relocated to Pasco County.

I have been a nurse for 25 plus years and have worked in vari-ous areas of nursing and management. I currently work for Life Care Center of New Port Richey as a Clinical Liaison. At Life Care Center of New Port Richey, we are dedicated to providing patients and residents with the highest-quality care. We have an on-site physician, offering faster, more convenient patient and resident care. Therapists trained in Lee Silverman Voice Treatment Global’s LSVT BIGTM and LOUDTM programs and state-of-the-art equip-ment, such as the Biodex Balance System SD, help in-patients and outpatients regain their maximum level of independence possible.

I enjoy being part of the West Pasco Chamber of Commerce and have made many friends and contacts through the numerous networking events. I try to stay active in the community, enjoy boating, cooking, garage sales, football and spending time with my grandkids. T

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to be part of the West Pasco Chamber and the Ambassador of the Month recognition!

Summer Haul Pass Gives Big Break To StudentsOn Pasco County Busses

Pasco County Public Transportation (PCPT) will be giving Pasco County students a chance to ride all summer for only $20.00. The special student rate will be effective starting June 1 until August 31, 2015. “Students who have summer jobs can use the bus and save a lot of money this summer,” said Mike Carroll, Pasco County Public Transportation Director. “It sure beats spending their hard earned money on gas and if they can’t afford a vehicle. The student fare is a great choice to meet their transportation needs.”

Passes will be sold at any Pasco County Library, Pasco/Hernando State College West Campus Bookstore and the PCPT Administra-tive Office located at 8620 Galen Wilson Boulevard Port Richey.

Fixed-route, transit buses operate throughout east and west

Pasco County and along State Road 54. PCPT also operates the county’s para-transit service for those persons unable to access transit service because of a verifiable disability, environmental barrier, or distance from a route.

The day has finally arrived when the Class of 2015 will walk across the stage, leaving behind childhood and entering into adulthood. Graduation day is upon us!

Think of how much has changed in the years leading up to this day. When these students started kindergarten there was no Facebook, YouTube, Xbox 360, PlayStation Portable, Twitter, Wii, iPhone, or iPad. Today, our graduating seniors probably can’t imagine how they could function without some of these items.

Many things will change in their lifetime. My hope is that the District School Board of Pasco County has prepared them to embrace new ideas, to accept change, and to succeed in college, career, and life.

Graduation Day is the culmination of 13 years of hard work. All the books they’ve read, classes they’ve attended, papers they’ve written, nights they’ve spent studying, and exams they’ve taken have paid off. I hope Graduation Day is a day of pride and celebra-tion for each member of the class of ’15.

Their future will bring them additional milestones, like landing a job, graduating from college, or getting married. My hope for each and every one of our graduates is that they achieve their goals, and that they do so with honor and integrity. It may not always be easy, but if they set their goals and tackle obstacles with determination and dignity, each graduate can be satisfied that they did their best. That’s success.

I wish each member of the Class of 2015

successas responsible and productive citizens.

Superintendent of Schools: Kurt Browning

Pasco CountyClass of 2015

by Kurt S. Browning, Superintendent of Pasco County Public SchoolsThere’s always talk of how we can work better together,

whether it’s working hand-in-hand as parents or siblings simply joining together to get the chores done at home. I believe the best time to instill that sense of collaboration is early in a child’s life, which can create a foundation for them the rest of their lives. The Pasco Sheriff’s Office sponsors the Pasco Police Athletic League (PPAL) which is a youth football and cheerleading program that spans all of Pasco County. Each year, our coaches mentor about 1,500 kids between the ages of 5 to 13 for football, and 3 to 14 for cheerleading. Kids can sign up for PPAL now, practice begins in July, and the season runs from August to November.

Office of theSheriff

by Sheriff Chris Nocco

Page 8 • Chamber News

We have teams in Dade City, Land O’ Lakes, Hudson, New Port Richey, River Ridge, Trinity, Wesley Chapel and Zephyrhills. The Pasco Police Athletic League was formed more than 40 years ago to accom-plish a number of goals, which continues to be important today: Inspire kids to practice the ideals of sportsmanship and physical fit-ness in an effort to promote teamwork, dedication and discipline; promote safety; use of sound football fundamentals; encouraging a healthy lifestyle; and to foster a healthy relationship between the community and our agency, among other objectives. The 10-game football season culminates with a Super Bowl and this year we’ve even added a Pro Bowl. There is NO travel requirements out of the county, unless cheerleaders wish to join some competitions that are not mandatory.

Many leagues need volunteers to assist as coaches, board members, concessions workers, and other duties to support the children on the field. PPAL has the most stringent requirements for volunteers than any other youth sports program in the Tampa Bay area, and the Pasco Sheriff’s Office conducts a thorough back-ground check on all applicants for the safety of the children. If you are interested to volunteer in one of the leagues, go to www.ppalregistration.com to fill out an application.

Your impact can also be felt by donating to the league. Every year, PPAL helps pay the registration fees for many underprivileged children who cannot afford the cost to play. Unfortunately, for many of these kids, their time on the field provides the only inter-action with positive adult role models in their life and the chance to have fun with other kids their age. PPAL has been a shining light in so many lives of children, some who have even gone on to play in college, the NFL, or have become leaders in our com-munity. Let’s continue to provide our children the support to get them and keep them on the right path!

For more information on PPAL, including to sign up your child, donate, or for more information, please visit www.pascopal.com.

With the Division of Elections’ certification of the ExpressVote marking device, Pasco County will move forward in the final phase of compliance with the 2007 legislation that mandated all Florida counties to replace touchscreen voting equipment with optical scan voting equipment.  Although Pasco County has been using optical scan equipment for the past seven years, the ExpressVote will replace the last of the iVotronic touchscreen voting machines used currently in Pasco County by persons with disabilities.

The ExpressVote system combines paper-based voting with touchscreen technology and features both audio and visual for-mats.  For those with visual limitations, there is a contrast button that changes the screen to high contrast and an optional zoom button, or a voter may opt to use the audio feature which uses a handheld console to make ballot selections. Voters using the ExpressVote system are given the opportunity to review their selections and to make changes before printing their voted ballot for the DS200 optical scanner.

The elections’ office will receive the new equipment in the next few months and will immediately begin preparations for deployment in the 2016 election cycle.  After staff is fully trained, procedures will be written and training manuals prepared for the pollworkers.

ExpressVote allows all voters, including those with special needs, to vote independently and to cast their ballots privately and autonomously; however, the Certification by the Division of Elections has been granted for use solely by persons with disabili-ties.  ExpressVote meets and exceeds the rigorous 2005 Voluntary Voting Systems Guidelines and HAVA section 301 accessibility requirements.

Pasco County Government has made a decision on a new APP expected to be available to the public in June, 2015. After asking the public for input, a committee selected MyPasco as the name of the new APP. The winning entry was decided by an internal committee working on the APP development.

Three individuals came up with the name, MyPasco and will receive a small prize as special thanks for their input. In all more than 250 people made suggestions on naming the new APP which is still being developed. The new app will be designed for both Android and Apple products and will have a variety of features including the ability to view County Commission meetings, a live stream of Pasco County Television, press releases, National Weather Service alerts, park information, library locator, library catalogue search, social media access, emergency management information, animal services, pet adoption services, road blockage and com-muter information.

“When we were looking at the entries the committee just looked at the APP name entries, I didn’t want to know who made each entry,” said Doug Tobin, Public Information Officer for Pasco County Government. “This will be a great tool for citizens to have information at their fingertips by using their smart phones. We also hope to get information from citizens who participate in monthly surveys. We hope to provide our Commissioners with more real time survey information throughout the year once we roll out the APP.”

The Public Information Office has worked closely with other departments such as Pasco County Information Technology, Plan-ning and Development, Metropolitan Planning Organization and a committee made up of Performance Development Team members.

Citizens currently can participate until May 31st in an annual online Citizen Survey available at the following link.https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2015OnlineCitizensSurvey

Congratulations to Mike LaSala (works for Pasco County Govt) Guy Colson (Hudson) and Ashley Pike (Trinity). All three came up with the name MyPasco which was selected to be the name of the new Android and IPhone APP. The APP is expected to be ready for download in mid to late June 2015.
