THE HUGGINS CEMETERY
This cemetery is located on N. C• highway #24, on right, in first block from the intersection of that highway with U. s. highway #17, in Jacksonville. It is situated 100ft. from the highway near two large magnolia trees, on vacant lot between the home of Mr. Ploy Ketchum and that of Mrs. Fletcher Marine. It is in poor condition. The stone·markers are nearly all leaning, and the lettering very dim. It is now overgrovm with trees and vines which make it almost in accessible.
All land covering one block, formerly ovmed by Augustus c. Huggins. Land was sold and tract where graves are located was exempted, that is, land extending from one magnolia tree to another. The deed to that certain piece of property reads so that no one can ever have possession of it< The vacant lot now in front of graves, ideal lot for home, in best residential section of tO\m. No one building there because of graves. T~tle to the cemetery itself, is supposedly in the hands of the town of Jacksonville and the county of Onslow. Land surrounding and adjoining graves ovmed now by W. Lee Humphrey, Verona, N. c. Formerly owned by Fred W. Hargett, deceased, of Jacksonvill:e, N. c.
