Alan ‘the Managers’ Message Time certainly flies when you are enjoying yourself. This has certainly been true over the past months. It has been great to see WIBC grow and develop into a more modern club. I realise that change can be difficult if things have always been done a certain way, but hopefully I haven't ruffled too many feathers or trodden on too many toes!

I heartily thank the Board and Committees for their support and backing as new projects have been undertaken. I also thank all of the members for their patience as some of the initiatives have taken place.

In the past year; we have upgraded the lighting to LED over the green; completely redecorated the bowls hall; reinvented our visitor changing room, upgraded our admin facilities and provided a safe interface between members and admin staff (a window!). The clubs computer system has been upgraded and brought in line with cloud technology. Members can now pay using debit and credit cards. The competition and rink booking system is now fully fledged and in use. The Green Stewards area is no longer a set of desks tables and odd boxes, but is purposeful and workable. New signage throughout the club means information is more readily accessible and easily found. Security lighting has been renewed and CCTV is in place. Lots of tree surgery at the back, the locker replacement programme is underway ….. Its quite a list! I am proud of what the club has achieved in such a short time but there is much more to do if we are to be well and truly on the Indoor Bowls Club Map.

Some of the plans for 2019 and beyond are shared on the next page. In the meantime I look forward to working with you all in 2019, and together making Worthing Indoor Bowls Club a great club to be a part of.

MENTORING

In 2019 we will be introducing a Mentoring scheme for our newer members. Each new member will be allocated a more experienced WIBC member who has volunteered to help our latest bowlers find their niche within our club. If you want to be part of the initiative have a chat with Alan in the office

Barriers to new bowlers fully integrating can range from knowledge about -

The bowling opportunities for different abilities When is it available – timings of opportunities are crucial – day or evening? What are the mixed or single sex opportunities? How do you break into a league team? What are the club rules for dress on the green and around the Club? Do newcomers fully understand about club etiquette? When will I be ready to play in a friendly against other Clubs? What social events will I be welcome at? Who can I ask for advice about bowling? Can I involve family and friends in club activities? Where can I find information about matches, sessions and bowls generally? THESE ARE JUST A FEW IDEAS THAT A MENTOR COULD HELP WITH.

NEW MEMBERS

In 2018 we once again took another 50 new bowlers into our club. Effectively we now have 1 in 5 of our WIBC family who are only 2 years into their bowling journey. We wish all our ‘Newbies’ well as they start to get to know about bowling at WIBC. A series of New Bowler events are planned for 2019 please look out for details. The first of the events is a Newbies match in early January.

Could you help the club by giving us a couple of hours a week to be a GREEN STEWARD.

We really do need you to volunteer. Call in at the office and we will talk you through this vital role.

The WORTHING IBC OPEN TOURNAMENT—Entries are still being accepted for our

Annual Triples Tournament. Pick up an entry form from the Office. The tournament is

open to bowlers from right across Sussex and mixed entries are encouraged. We are

sponsored by Focus Investments and the winners of both competitions pick up a sizeable

cash prize.

We will be closed for one week between the winter season and the summer season to allow us to have new underlay, and the carpet cleaned and turned

ANTICIPATED COST £11K !!

Meet Kevin Tester our latest addition to our Board of Directors. Kevin retired recently from running his own company with manufacturing and retail branches across the globe. Kevin promises to do all that he can along with his new colleagues to keep our wonderful club moving forward without losing its unique identity. He is keen to talk with members and hear their ideas. Kevin plays regularly in Spoons, aggregate and other club sessions.

2018 has seen a busy and varied social scene within the Club, along with the regular functions such as Bingo, Theatre Trips, Themed food, Shuffleboard, Cribbage and Musical evenings, we have seen the introduction of some new events including DVD Race and Quiz nights. All of the functions have been very well attended which is great to see.

Thanks to everyone who helped make these possible.

We are looking to introduce even more exciting events for 2019 and please let us know if there is anything you would like us to consider.
