VISION
What is the vision for your preferred future? The
need for a strong and compelling vision is key to
most business successes as well as most church
success. It’s a proven principle for personal
success too. So, consider the art of vision with me
for a moment.
The story of the discovery of King Tut’s Tomb
has always fascinated me. For many years Dr.
Howard Carter—renown archeologist—dug in the
Egyptian royal Valley of the Kings. During that
time, he had an assistant, an aide, who had lost
interest and passion for the project. The very day
Dr. Cater uncovered the opening to the tomb the
young aide had stayed back at camp and didn’t
even come. He simply sent a message inquiring,
“Do you see anything?” He missed out on one of
the greatest discoveries of all time. Dr. Carter
would work the next ten years removing,
cataloging, and restoring the items from the tomb.
Over 3000 objects! And all the aide could ask was,
“Do you see anything?”
How many people miss out on amazing
opportunities because they lack a vision for a
strong and compelling future? This aide certainly
missed it.
A well-known brain surgeon about to
preform delicate surgery to remove a tumor from
behind a woman’s eye socket asked her if she
had a choice, would she prefer to lose her
memory or her eye sight. Because of where the
tumor was located, one or the other was under
threat of being lost. She thought about it for a few
days and then answered she’d prefer to lose her
memory rather than sight. The surgeon asked her
how she came to this conclusion and she
answered, “I would rather see where I’m going
than to remember where I’ve been.”
Back in early 1960s, President John F.
Kennedy set a vision before America: “We choose
to go to the moon in this decade and do the
other things, not because they are easy, but
because they are hard . . .” Within that decade
NASA succeeded in sending a rocket ship into
space and set down on the surface of the moon.
For the first time, man set foot on a celestial body
other than earth.

Now, nearly 60 years later, America has a
new dream . . . a new vision. NASA plans to send
people to the planet Mars within this decade. Due
to the orbits of both earth and Mars, that is only
possible once every 2 years. It will take 8 months to
get there, which means the people on Mars would
have to wait nearly another 2 years before they
could try to come back. Add another 8 months of
travel; that means these people will be gone
nearly four years. That’s a really long time on top
of the reality that it’s a very complicated mission.
The key thing is this: NASA has a mission plan. It
may be expensive, difficult, and dangerous but
they will not waver from their vision.
Now, let’s make this all personal. Where is
your life in need of a compelling vision? Consider
a married couple who are dreaming of a
vacation. How much benefit do they receive
talking about it together, planning together,
setting a savings plan together, looking forward to
it together, and then reaching their dreams
together. First the vision, then the planning and
dreaming together, and in the end, not only do
they end up in Maui, but they also benefit from all
their time and effort spent together. A vision was
turned into a reality and they had the joy of the
entire journey.
There has to be an area in your life that
could use a compelling vision and the joy of
chasing after something you’d really like to have.
Oh, and God’s vision for us? Heaven! Now
catch the vision and go get it!

already founded faith to the next level.
New Wednesday Study
Join us for a six-week study on the book of
Revelation, led by LCU professor Dr. Mark
Mangano. Revelation is an often intimidating
and misunderstood book of the New Testament,
but this class will bring its sometimes terrifying
images into perspective and help us learn to
apply the Bible to our lives. Mark is an Old
Testament professor, and he is going bring to life
the great connections between the Testaments.
This study begins September 6 from 6:30–7:45

Women’s Bible
Study This study is meant to
come alongside

the crucial significance
behind each of His I AM
statements throughout
the Gospel of John.
The fall session of Ladies Bible study will look at
Finding I AM by Lysa TerKeurst. There will be both a
Monday evening (6:30 p.m.) and Tuesday
afternoon (1:00 p.m.) session. You can register in
the Family Room starting August 20, and the study
will begin September 11 (Monday) & 12 (Tuesday).
The cost is $15 for the study book.

Worship. We will journey
through the book and
event of the Exodus
and discover how
Moses depended on
the Lord. Throughout
this study kids will find out
that even in the ‘mazes’
of life, God is at work and
cares for us! Our key verse for the month is Psalm
12:1–2, “My help comes from the Lord.” Parents if
you would like to review what we study with your
kids, the titles and texts are below and the main
point is listed in italics.
August Series Titles:
Moses Is Born to Israelite Slaves. Exodus 1:11–14;
1:22-2:10. God helps us.
Moses is Called to Free the Israelites. Exodus
3:16–4:17. God has a plan for us.
Moses Gives Instructions for the First Passover.
Exodus 12:1–13. We trust God to rescue us.
God Uses Moses to Defeat the Amalekites.
Exodus 17:8–16. We rely on God to protect us.
Sunday, August 20, 9:30 a.m. Save the date! We’ll be celebrating our kid’s leap
forward to their new Sunday School classes. Kids,
toddlers through fourth grade, will be promoted to
the next grade. This is an exciting time so make
sure your family will be with us that day. Your child
will want to tell you all about their new class! Make

Church Preschool. Lesson plans, bulletin boards,
new projects being planned, new toys, field trips

Scrip Program And while you’re at it, ask Jenni about how you
can use the Scrip program to help pay tuition.
Even if you do not have a child in preschool, you
can help our preschool families by participating in
the Scrip program and earning rebates. We are
very excited about being able to offer this option
to support our families. Make sure to check it out
soon so that your summer purchases can be used
for fall tuition.

recently installed a new
intercom system between
the classrooms. It is our goal
to serve families by providing
the safest, friendliest and most efficient
environment possible for our kids. We hope this will

Good News is for students in 9th thru 12th grade students. Kickoff is
Sunday, September 10, at 5:00 p.m. Good News consists of the Student Choir,
Student Worship Band, T.R.A.S.H.*, Student Drama Team*, and Student Tech
Crü. Good News includes relevant music, focused drama, and great service
opportunities in a fast-paced, high-energy environment all leading up to a
fantastic 8-day tour, Tuesday to Tuesday, June 5–12, 2018!

HeartSong is for 5th thru 8th grade students. Kickoff is Sunday, September
10, at 6:00 p.m. HeartSong includes service opportunities in music, worship,
drama, and T.R.A.S.H.! HeartSong will participate in the Harvest of Talents
Celebration service, Celebrate! Christmas this fall, as well as a three-day tour
in April 2018. HeartSong rehearses each Sunday from 6:00–7:00 p.m. Bring
your friends!
The Sanctuary Choir kickoff is Wednesday, August 23, at 6:00 p.m.
We will share a meal together (so bring something to share), then head into
the Sanctuary Choir loft to sing a little. The Sanctuary Choir meets each
Wednesday night from 6:30–7:45 p.m. We present special music and lead
worship each Sunday in the 8:15 a.m. Sanctuary service. The Sanctuary
Choir is open to those in high school and older. Worship Team vocalists for
the 8:15 a.m. Sanctuary service are selected from the Sanctuary Choir.
Kid’s Choirs Kid’s Choirs
Kid’s Choirs will kickoff on Sunday, September 10, at 6:00 p.m. Kids will
be placed in one of two choirs based on age by September 1: ages 3yo,
4yo, 5yo (Cherubs) & 1st thru 4th grades. We have a lot of exciting things
planned this fall and an awesome spring musical for April 2018. We’ll meet
each Sunday evening from 6:00–7:00 p.m. to have fun learning about Jesus,
music, and worship. Invite your friends! Aftercare is available until 7:45 p.m.
for those parents involved in small groups.

Church planting is the focus of API. In Indonesia, even
if people are converted to Christ they cannot sustain
their faith apart from the church, the bride of Christ.
Lincoln Christian Church has been a faithful supporter
of API since it began with Church & Nance
Winegarner in the 1970’s, now retired along with Gi &
Mei Tanbunnan.
After much prayer
and fasting Sugiarto &
Luci have been called
to be the new directors
as of March 2017. This
couple was a part of
the mission team earlier;
then they moved to the
Muslim area of the
Philippines where they successfully planted churches.
About five years ago, they were called back to the
API mission base in Bandung.
ICON V will be held July 31–Aug. 4, 2017 in
Salatiga, Indonesia. It is a convention similar to our
NACC, but starts earlier in the morning and runs late
into the evening. Church planters come in from all the
islands; many have not seen each other since the last
conference four years ago. For some it takes six weeks
to travel to the convention and back home—if they
must come by boat. It is a joy to see them greet one
another.
Continue to pray for four new Smart Points
ministries. They now exist in 71 locations.
Please pray for Martono, a church planter and
mission coordinator, and his family. His wife died on
July 14, leaving behind four children, ranging in ages
from high school to preschool. He also ministers to a
church in Salatiga where he had many responsibilities
for ICON. He and two other missionaries were at the
Harvest of Talents last year!

This event is for MEN; your husbands, sons, fathers, bosses,
coworkers, and best buds! Prepare for an evening rich in fellowship,
stories, and of course, hearty food. Wild game from local hunters will
be provided and prepared with the most tried and true recipes.
Seating will be limited to 130 men and boys.
Tickets sales will be available in the
Church Office beginning Aug. 1 and
run through Monday, Sept. 18
$10.00 per ticket.
All proceeds go to feed hungry
people around the world.
