*APOSTLE’S CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; He ascended into heaven, He is seated at the right hand of the Father, and He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life
everlasting. Amen.
*PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
Uplifted by the promised hope of healing and resurrection, we join the people of God in all
times and places in praying for the church, the world, and all who are in need..
Giving to Support St. John’s
As a church we encourage those who are part of the St. John’s family to be giving to the work of our

A brief silence.
We call on your spirit of unity, giving thanks for our different vocations. Activate and utilize
the diverse gifts present in your church, that they reveal your love for all
Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.
We call on your spirit of life, present in air, wind, humidity, storms, and oxygen in our
atmosphere, breathing energy into all things. Heal with your breath the whole creation,
especially those who struggle to breathe due to air pollution
.Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.
We call on your spirit of righteousness. Wherever we as a people are divided, unite us.
Wherever we are prideful, humble us. Give each one of us a heart for justice and empathy. Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.
We call on your spirit of healing. Bless nurses, doctors, midwives, chaplains, counselors, and
hospice workers as they care for those in need. We pray for all who long for comfort We pray
especially for all those we name before you silently and aloud
Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.
We call on your spirit of friendship. As Elizabeth welcomed Mary to her home, give us a spirit
of welcome to those whom we meet in this congregation and outside these doors. Surprise us
daily with unexpected grace, that we rejoice in every blessing you send.. Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.
We call on your spirit of hope. As you have led your saints in all times and places, stir in us the
desire to follow their example, leading us from death to new life in you. Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.
With bold confidence in your love, almighty God, we place all for whom we pray into your
eternal care; through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

*WORDS OF INSTITUTION
(P)Today as we celebrate communion, we join with millions around the world, and
millions who, down through the ages have joined in this feast. When we do this, we
take part in a story that tells us that we are loved completely and unconditionally by
God. When we do this, we remember that Jesus invites us to this ancient but
always-new meal, to share the feast and remember God’s love. You are all welcome
to share in this celebration.
In the Bible we read that Jesus often enjoyed a meal with his friends.
On the night he was arrested, the night before he died, he had a meal with his
closest friends.
As they ate and drank together, they had no idea what was going to happen when
they left the room they were in.
In the night in which he was betrayed,
our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks;
broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take and eat; this is my body, given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks,
and gave it for all to drink, saying:
This cup is the new covenant in my blood,
shed for you and all people for the forgiveness of sin.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
Loving God, we praise you
You are the One who brings hope and the promise of peace in your Son, Jesus
Christ.
You open wide your arms in welcome to us, so that we might be drawn into Jesus’
life and in doing so, know life in its fullness.
Thank you for what he has taught us about your love, which is spacious and freely
offered to all.
Make these everyday things of bread and wine special for us by the presence of
your Holy Spirit, that they may become for us the gift of your body, healing,
forgiving, making us whole…so that we in turn may become for you, your body,
loving and caring in the world, in Jesus’ name. Amen

*The Lord’s Prayer
(C) Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the
Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
DISTRIBUTION
As we celebrate communion together in our homes we are connected with the larger
Church—that is the Communion of Saints. This is not our private meal but a meal shared
with believers throughout the ages. Even in our distancing, we are brought close together
in the sharing of the presence of our savior Jesus Christ in the sharing of this food and
drink.
As you share the “bread”: The Body of Christ Given For You
As you share the “cup”: The Blood of Christ Shed For You
*BLESSING ~
(P)May the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen you and keep you in his
grace.
*POST-COMMUNION PRAYER
(P): Jesus, our bright Morning Star, we give you thanks that you have fed us
well through the bread and wine of your Supper. May it enable us to shine
brightly in all the dark places of our world with your love, justice and peace.
We ask this in your holy name. C: Amen.

homeless during this Corona Virus time. We thought you might be interested in the
innovative way we have changed our service, keeping sanitation and safety foremost in
our efforts. St. Johns is always on the calendar for serving two Saturdays a month, and
often we take up the changes in other’s schedules to do three. With all of the new
protocols in place for group safety/gathering, here are the changes to our service. The
Gather Atrium building is not open to any of the guests, only for the cooks and servers.
Each team cleans the kitchen area where we will be working, and glove up. We prepare
the hot meal in a square clamshell to go box, with a main dish, side dish, salad and
dessert. Instead of having a bulk/bin area where guests can choose items for a take out
sack lunch, we pre prepare the sack lunches in the church kitchen. Our sack lunches
typically include a bottle of water, a package of juice, a peanut butter jelly sandwich,
chicken or tuna salad when available, a fresh piece of fruit, and several items of cookies,
chips, granola bars, a package of Kleenex or hand warmers etc. We then put the sack
lunch on top of the hot meal, and bag together in a plastic handled grocery bag. We have
a walk up window, much like a fast food establishment – where we have put a cart
outside under the window. Our server places two completed bagged meals on the cart,
along with two disposable cups of coffee, and a baggy containing individually packed
cream/sugar and stirrer. We then close the window, and guests can come up one at a time
to take our meal. Then when they have walked away, we open the window and replenish
the cart. We typically start serving coffee, and either a muffin, donut or yogurt from 9:00
– 10:00, then we start putting the meal bags and additional coffee out. We have been
averaging between 40 & 50 guests per Saturday. We feel with this protocol, we are
minimizing our volunteer contact with our guests, but are still able to provide a couple of
nutritious meals to them. If we are aware of additional food services in the area for them,
we drop a flyer in their bag to make them aware of those locations. Our current “team”
consists of Sue Edwards & sister Serene, Donna Moir, Rebecca Rose, Susan Russell and
Shari Blackwell. We have a new young man, Caleb, who has a food service permit, and
has been joining us more regularly since he is laid off his job. We shop frugally and
spend wisely – it is amazing how creative our use of what’s available can be. As always,
any monetary contribution or contributions of juice boxes, granola bars or home made
cookies, or cakes that can be left in the freezer are appreciated. We look forward to the
day when we can once again welcome guests into the building for warmth, conversation
and social communion. Respectfully submitted, Shari Blackwell
