We’re so glad you’ve chosen to join us in worship today. Over the next hour, we will sing a few songs, join together in prayer, and hear a message that speaks to how truth and faith intersect with our lives today. In a world that pulls us in so many directions, this time of worship helps us remember what is most important as we turn our hearts and minds toward God.

We’d love to know you’re here today, so take a moment to fill out the Connection Card found in this worship guide, which includes a place where you can let us know about prayer concerns and/or questions you might have. Place the Connection Card into the offering plate/basket or into a BLUE BOX, found at each exit. Thanks again for gathering with us today at Crossings!

NEW TO CROSSINGS?Stop by Guest Central in the Atrium today after the service. We would love to meet you!

WANT TO TAKE THE NEXT STEP IN YOUR FAITH?Visit Next Step in the Atrium following the service today. We would love to help you find a class, group or personal spiritual growth plan!

2 2Self-ControlFruitology series, part nine / Galatians 5:22-25PASTOR MARTY GRUBBS [@MARTYGRUBBS]

But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, He will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Here there is no conflict with the law. – Galatians 5:22-23

Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to His cross and crucified them there. If we are living now by the Holy Spirit, let us follow the Holy Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. – Galatians 5:24-25

Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control. – Proverbs 25:28

EXPERIMENTPut this card somewhere you will see it each day.

Experience:Choose something to abstain from for a 48-hour time period this week (like food, tv, social media, etc.). Replace the time you would normally spend on that with prayer & Scripture —perhaps focusing on a particular passage like Romans 8:5-14.

At the end of the week, read 2 Peter 1:5-9.Reflect on the qualities listed in this passage. Why is self-control important in becoming more centered on Christ? Why would God want to develop this fruit in you?

THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT IS SELF-CONTROL.A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls. - PROVERBS 25:28
