WE RESPOND TO GOD’S WORD

Prayers of the People and The Lord’s Prayer Genevieve Brooks Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,

thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Presentation of Tithes and Offerings

Offertory Anthem(8:15) A Prayer Jared Johnson

O God, make the door of this house wide enough to receive all who need human love and fellowship, narrow enough to shut out all envy, pride, and strife. Make its threshold smooth enough to be no stumbling block to straying feet, but rugged and strong enough to turn back the tempter’s power. O God, make the door of this house the gateway of your eternal kingdom. You who have given us this heritage, grant us grace gratefully to receive it, wisely to use it, and faithfully to continue it, to your glory and our salvation, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (from the King’s Chapel Prayer Book)

(9:30 & 11:00) I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes Leo Sowerby (1895-1968)I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: He that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, He that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is thy keeper; thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil, he shall preserve thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore. Amen.

Offertory Response Hymn 761 - stanza 1 BEECHERCalled as partners in Christ’s service, called to ministries of grace, we respond with deep commitment fresh new lines of faith to trace. May we learn the art of sharing, side by side and friend with friend, equal partners in our caring to fulfill God’s chosen end.

*All who are able may stand.

Page 3: WORSHIP | EMBRACE |SERVE… · 2019-09-30 · preserve thee from all evil, he shall preserve thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth,

*Affirmation of Faith from Brief Statement of Faith, 1983We trust in God,whom Jesus called Abba, Father. In sovereign love God created the world goodand makes everyone equally in God’s imagemale and female, of every race and people,to live as one community. But we rebel against God; we hide from our Creator.Ignoring God’s commandments,we violate the image of God in others and ourselves, accept lies as truth, exploit neighbor and nature, and threaten death to the planet entrusted to our care.We deserve God’s condemnation.Yet God acts with justice and mercy to redeem creation. In everlasting love, the God of Abraham and Sarah chose a covenant peopleto bless all families of the earth.Hearing their cry,God delivered the children of Israelfrom the house of bondage.Loving us still,God makes us heirs with Christ of the covenant.Like a mother who will not forsake her nursing child, like a father who runs to welcome the prodigal home,God is faithful still.

WE GO IN GOD’S NAME

*Hymn 306 - Blest Be the Tie That Binds DENNIS *Charge and Benediction

*Chiming of the Trinity The worship service ends with the Chiming of the Trinity.

Please be mindful of those who remain to listen to the postlude.

A NEW LOOK AT SOME OLD STORIESOur Bible is a living text and we are invited to enter with fresh eyes and an open mind to hear God’s word for us today. In this four-week study taught by Parish Associate Judy Yates Siker, we will explore some of the men and

women who appear in--and disappear from--the books of the New Testament. We will use some familiar and some not-so-familiar lenses to explore fresh understanding of age old stories. Join us as we discover new ways of approaching these stories and listen for new understandings. Come for one session; come for all. Class meets Wednesday nights 6:30-8 p.m. in C203 on October 2, 9, 16 and 23. There will also be a duplicate class on Thursday, October 3, 10 and 17 from 10:30 a.m.-noon, C203.
