WE PRAY Prayer of Confession Robert Terrell
Gracious heavenly Father, we thank you for giving us your eternal Word. We praise you, that your Word never changes. We thank you, that you speak to us clearly. We praise you, that in a world full of lies and falsehood, your Word is trustworthy and true. We thank you, that you keep your promises – every one of them. We praise you, that your Word has power to heal, pardon and forgive. We praise you, that your Word gives us life, hope, comfort, peace and joy. Lord, forgive us for neglecting your Word. Forgive us, for not treasuring your Word and feeding on it each day. Forgive us for hearts that are cold, and minds that are distracted. By your Spirit, speak to us this morning. Open our ears that we would hear, understand and obey. We pray in the name of the Father,
Son and Holy Spirit, Amen.

Children of the Heavenly Father Traditional Swedish Melody Arr. by Dan Forest
Children of the heavenly Father
Safely in His bosom gather
Nestling bird nor star in heaven
Such a refuge e’er was given
God His own doth tend and nourish
In His holy courts they fl ourish
From all evil things He spares them
In His mighty arms He bears them
Neither life nor death shall ever
From the Lord His children sever
Unto them His grace He showeth
And their sorrows all He knoweth
Though He giveth or He taketh
God His children ne’er forsaketh
His the loving purpose solely
To preserve them pure and holy
WE HEAR THE WORD
First Scripture Reading
2 Peter 1:12-20 Jan Watsell12 So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are fi rmly established in the truth
you now have. 13 I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body, 14 because I
know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. 15 And I will make every effort
to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things. 16 For we did not follow cleverly
devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses
of his majesty. 17 He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic
Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” 18 We ourselves heard this voice that
came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain. 19 We also have the prophetic message as
something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until
the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of
Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things.
Leader: This is the Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.
Hymn The Strife is O’er, the Battle Done
Refrain:
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
The strife is o’er, the battle done;
now is the victor’s triumph won;
now be the song of praise begun: Alleluia!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
The powers of death have done their worst,
but Christ their legions has dispersed;
let shouts of holy joy outburst: Alleluia!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
The three sad days have quickly sped,
he rises glorious from the dead;
all glory to our risen Head! Alleluia!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
He broke the age-bound chains of hell;
the bars from heaven’s high portals fell;
let hymns of praise his triumph tell: Alleluia!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Lord, by the stripes which wounded thee,
from death’s dread sting thy servants free,
that we may live and sing to thee: Alleluia!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Second Scripture Reading
1 Thessalonians 2:13-2013 And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us,
you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who
believe. 14 For you, brothers and sisters, became imitators of God’s churches in Judea, which are in Christ Jesus:
You suffered from your own people the same things those churches suffered from the Jews 15 who killed the Lord
Jesus and the prophets and also drove us out. They displease God and are hostile to everyone 16 in their effort to
keep us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved. In this way they always heap up their sins to
the limit. The wrath of God has come upon them at last. 17 But, brothers and sisters, when we were orphaned by
being separated from you for a short time (in person, not in thought), out of our intense longing we made every
effort to see you. 18 For we wanted to come to you—certainly I, Paul, did, again and again—but Satan blocked our
way. 19 For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when
he comes? Is it not you? 20 Indeed, you are our glory and joy.

The Purpose of Preaching
WE GO OUT INTO THE WORLD
*Closing Hymn
We’ve a Story to Tell to the Nations
We’ve a story to tell to the nations
that shall turn their hearts to the right,
a story of truth and mercy,
a story of peace and light,
a story of peace and light.
Refrain
For the darkness shall turn to dawning,
and the dawning to noonday bright,
and Christ’s great kingdom shall come on earth,
the kingdom of love and light.
We’ve a song to be sung to the nations,
that shall lift their hearts to the Lord,
a song that shall conquer evil
and shatter the spear and sword,
and shatter the spear and sword. (Refrain)
We’ve a message to give to the nations,
that the Lord who reigneth above
hath sent us his Son to save us,
and show us that God is love,
and show us that God is love. (Refrain)
We’ve a Savior to show to the nations,
who the path of sorrow hath trod,
that all of the world’s great peoples
might come to the truth of God,
might come to the truth of God. (Refrain)

O For A Thousand Tongues To Sing
Oh for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer’s praise
The glories of my God and King, the triumphs of His grace
My gracious Master and my God, assist me to proclaim
To spread through all the earth abroad, the honors of Thy name
Chorus 1
So come on and sing out let our anthem grow loud there is one great love Jesus
Jesus the name that charms our fears, that bids our sorrows cease
‘Tis music in the sinner’s ears, ‘tis life and health and peace
He breaks the pow’r of canceled sin, He sets the pris’ner free
His blood can make the foulest clean, His blood availed for me
Chorus 2
So come on and sing out, let our anthem grow loud, there is one great love
There is one great love Jesus
He speaks and list’ning to His voice, new life the dead receive
The mournful broken hearts rejoice, the humble poor believe
Glory to God and praise and love be ever ever giv’n
By saints below and saints above, the church in earth and heav’n
Bridge
There are so few words
That never grow old
There are so few words
That never grow old
Jesus Jesus Jesus
Chorus 3
So come on and sing out
Let our anthem grow loud
There is one great love
So come on so come on
Chorus 4
So come on and sing out, let our anthem grow loud, there is one great love
There is one great love, oh there is one great love, Jesus
