Geared to any challengeContents:
From the very beginning back in 1964, BJ-Gear created the image of a quality oriented producer of gears for many different lines of business and for many different purposes. We areproducing a wide standard gear programme and besides we are keeping a strong position within adapted standard gears and special gears. Besides, we offer motors, encoders, electro-magnetic brakes and couplings etc. of recognized manufacture making it possible to supply complete transmission solutions at short notice.
By virtue of highly qualified employees, application of 3D CAD/CAM and modern, advanced CNC controlled production and measuring machinery, we can ensure a quick and flexible production focusing on high quality. Our modular designed gear programme combined with high flexibility contributes towards ensuring very short and precise delivery times – also when it is a question of our special products.
BJ-Gear stands for reliable transmission solutions among others within internal and external transport, the hospital and the handicap sector, the food industry as well as for gardening, various special machines, doors and gates.
As an alternative to this brochure, you can use our homepage on www.bj-gear.dk where you can have detailed information on our complete product programme. You can also online configure gears and download 2D and 3D drawings, brochures and other documentation.

New Type DesignationStarting from October 2002 BJ-Gear introduced a new type designation. This meets the requirements of modern numbering technics and electronic data processing and gives precise and unambiguous type designations of the individual gears.
5
Selection GuideC
Gear SizeThe BJ-worm gear is available in 5 standard sizes with housing of cast iron.
The individual sizes are numbered according to the centre distances between worm and worm wheel. A gear with a centre distance of 52.5 is designated Series 52 and is assigned number 52 on position no. 2 in the type designation.
Series 42 Series 52 Series 61 Series 79 Serie 99
Gear Ratio
BJ-worm gears are available with the following nominal gear ratios:
Dimensioning Gear Size and Gear RatioBy using the graphs on subsequent pages, you can dimension gear size, gear ratio and number of revolutions as well as motoraccording to your requirement. Alternatively, you can use the tables on pages 31 to 33.
By means of these tables you can also find the service factor of the chosen gear as well as information on the exact ratio of the gear.
For exact values, see tables of effect on page 31 til 33. Other gear ratios on request.

The operating conditions is of importance to the durability of the gear. The gear should therefore be dimensioned by using the service factors mentioned below. Please note that the values applies for operation with an AC standard motor.
Mgear [Nm] Service Factor = Mrequired [Nm]
Due to an increasing demand for gears being able to handle more accurate movements, we have developed a product called precision gears. The technology is based on the good qualities generally characterised by worm gears. In spite of special design, production and assembly methods, the gears meet strict precision requirements. On request, we can prove backlash, tolerances etc. by measuring reports.
The backlash values include all the clearances of bearings and toothing as well as tolerances of key and key ways, bearing seats etc. The backlash values do not include elastic and static deformations as a result of the loads to which the gear is exposed. For further information please contact BJ-Gear.

On the ND-side, our gears are stamped with an unique gear number consisting of year of manufacture, production number and gearing ratio ensuring that they can always be identified any time later on. By stating the gear number, we can always supply quickly a replace-ment gear, whether it is a standard gear, an adapted standard gear or a special gear.
On ordering gear motors you can have the terminal box placed in a certain position. Please inform us of 0°, 90°, 180° or 270°.

Running-inA new gear gains lifetime by running it in carefully. The first running time should not exceed half an hour and make sure that the gear is cooled down before next start. The gear load is gradually increased from half to full output torque.
Oil changeThe gears are life-lubricated. However, gears being exposed to extremenly heavy load should be subject to oil change approx. every 5 years. Gears running in very warm environments may require oil change every year.

Strength FactorThe strength factor is an expression of the durability of the gearing in relation to breakage. The breakage limit is four times the strength factor.• By normal use, include the service factor on page 11 and choose a strength factor > 1.• In case of special demands on safety or other special conditions, please contact BJ-Gear for further information.
