Page 4: Worldwide | 2017

Accenture, with its end-to-end consulting and service approach and its strong innovation capability, is a clearleader in the IT services market – and is considered by many of its peers as the benchmark and model for theindustry. It is one of few truly global players in terms of coverage of industry, process, services, and geography. The company's comprehensive portfolio comprises strategy consulting, management and technology consulting, digital services, systems integration, application and infrastructure management services, cloud services as wellas business process operations services.

With this native, integrated consulting & IT services model, combining strong vertical, process and IT skills, aswell as management consulting and digital agency capabilities, Accenture has kept its premium status despitethe impact of industrialization and global sourcing. While most other major IT service providers have suffered atthe hands of the Indian competition, Accenture has used the global delivery model very aggressively to boostboth growth and profitability.

The company has a stable management team and has delivered sustained strong growth – well above marketrate – in recent years. It also has a superior operating margin compared to key competitors (e.g. higher thanCapgemini, though below the Indian vendors), and its market valuation underlines its popularity with the stockmarket.

A key success factor for Accenture is that permanent reinvention and transformation are part of thecompany's DNA, with the ability to reposition around any hot topic. It has the remarkable ability to develop innew, innovative topics (C&SI, end-to-end models) while keeping growing in legacy modernization (AM & BPO)and making this business profitable (industrialization & global sourcing).

Over the past 4-5 years, Accenture has fully embraced the move to "digital". Accenture perceives that largecompanies – the Global 2000, its key target client base – are moving to digital in a significant way: moving frombecoming digitally disrupted to becoming disruptors in their own right, by incorporating digital strategy, digitaltransformation and digital technology in innovative ways and driving disruption in their industry and in others.Consequently, for Accenture, digital transformation has become the core strategic priority. As one of the firstamong its peers, Accenture formed a "digital" business unit (Accenture Digital) in December 2013, comprisingcapabilities in CX, mobility, IoT and analytics, and it has since revamped its complete portfolio (across allbusiness units) to serve the digital transformation journey. In line with latest technology developments,Accenture is currently also focusing strongly on robotics, cloud, security, blockchain and artificial intelligence.

Applications-related services make up almost half of Accenture's revenue. The company positions itself as anend-to-end applications lifecycle partner, covering all aspects of a project from design through development,

operations and retirement. This is delivered primarily through the Accenture Technology business unit, which hasstrong alliances with leading business applications providers (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft, Salesforce and manyothers). While traditional AM is still a key part of the business, Accenture is focusing here also on "rotating tothe new", i.e. helping clients to migrate legacy application workloads to new, more flexible and scalableapplications, based on cloud platforms, automation, Agile and DevOps. This has implications also for thedelivery model: while the focus has in the past been on offshore delivery, there is now more demand for localdelivery as well as nearshore expansion.

A key aspect of Accenture's go-to-market strategy is its focus on a limited number of (large) clients (Accentureclaims that it is serving more than three-quarters of the FORTUNE Global 500 and 94 of the top 100).This strategy ensures a very high level of customer intimacy, aiming to achieve a maximum share of walletwithin the customer organization. Accenture has the ability to cover both innovation added value (combining in-depth vertical and process expertise) and commodity/legacy transformation (thanks to industrialization and aglobal delivery model), generating cost savings to finance new projects.

Within the organization, Accenture is continuously striving to have the right balance between autonomy (differentcultures, approaches) and synergies (bringing all resources together) for end-to-end deals.

Key challenges for Accenture will be to reinforce (onshore) strategy consulting capabilities (for digital and IoTtransformation projects industrialization has its limits) and to manage the automation challenges on theresources pyramid. For Accenture, attracting and retaining top talent for a diversified workforce, in the midst ofan increasingly fierce war for talent, will be a major growth challenge. To address this, large-scale (re-)traininginitiatives are under way to ensure that the workforce is up-to-date on digital topics. But Accenture also works on"digitized" career development, enabling "anytime, anywhere" feedback and employee involvement to create anenvironment for employees to continuously learn and grow.

Its highly aggressive acquisition strategy will continue to play a key part in the growth strategy. In the first half ofits FY 2017, Accenture already invested some $800m in M&A, mostly in the “new”, i.e.digital-, cloud-, orsecurity-related services, to expand "digital agency" capabilities (e.g. The Monkeys, Maud, SinnerSchrader,Karmarama, MobGen), but also in some specific vertical domains (e.g. dgroup and Kurt Salmon for retail; DaviesConsulting for utility) or technology expertise (e.g. Focus Group Europe, SolidserVision and NashCo forServiceNow capability, DayNine for Workday capability). Its ability to fuse these acquisitions into the groupwithout disrupting their culture and focus will be key to its inorganic development.

SITSI | Vendor Analysis | Vendor Profile | Accenture | Worldwide | 2017 5

Page 6: Worldwide | 2017

Accenture positions itself as an end-to-end service provider to support its customers in their digitaltransformation by "helping organizations maximize their performance and achieve their vision".

"Successfully rotating to the new" is one of the major goals of how Accenture wants to support its clients, whichmeans finding the right timing and strategy for their digital transformation process. The approach is to addressboth business and IT, which – in Accenture's view – are increasingly inseparable. The aim is to drive end-to-endtransformation for clients across Accenture's five businesses (representing the service value chain): strategy, consulting, digital, technology, and operations.

Accenture puts innovation at the core of its business model and declares “to lead with (applied) innovation ineverything we do”. This manifests itself through the launch of the Accenture Innovation Architecture, whichconsists of six parts, namely:

Accenture Research (research to identify and anticipate industry and technology trends)Accenture Ventures (partnerships with start-ups, entrepreneurs, investors, academic and corporate R&Dgroups)Accenture Labs (applied R&D initiatives)Accenture Studios (rapid development and prototyping of solutions/applications and design/creation of digitalservices)Accenture Innovations Centers (building and scaling of industry solutions)Accenture Delivery Centers (industrialized delivery of solutions)

A showcase of this Innovation Architecture is its new facility in Dublin, Ireland: The Dock, the company’s multi-disciplinary research and incubation hub was officially opened in February 2017 and currently houses more than250 professionals from multiple countries, who co-create new services and solutions together with clients andpartners.

The Innovation Architecture, with a number of locations and initiatives spread across key locations worldwide(and growing), is the latest strategic move by Accenture to position itself as a key partner in helping clientsmanage their digital transformation (“Transform the Core”) as well as co-create and scale (and re-use) new, digital business models (“Grow the New”). The focus – and go-to-market – very clearly remains on an industry-led approach, driven by strong industry know-how and industry-specific technology developments/deployments.Accenture is continually expanding its industry expertise, be it through acquisitions, partnerships or an evolvingecosystem.

The Accenture strategy fits very well into the strong level of disruption that is playing out in many of Accenture’skey industries (banking, resources, retail, manufacturing, etc.), and clients’ needs to re-think their fundamentals. With its established client relationships at C-Suite level, Accenture is in a strong position to become the primarydigital transformation partner, with the opportunity of innovation projects generating pull-through business, e.g.large-scale technology modernization or business process re-engineering. Consequently, Accenture Consultingis the leading business unit in terms of client conversations, aiming to become the trusted advisor to clients fortransformation topics, then leveraging the other business units to find the best solution for each client.

Accenture's leadership ambitions remain as follows:

“Market leadership”

Aim to be among the top three providers in each vertical, each geography, each market category

Strategy Review

SITSI | Vendor Analysis | Vendor Profile | Accenture | Worldwide | 2017 6

Page 7: Worldwide | 2017

"Growth leadership”

Double-digit (profitable) growth Keep employee numbers stable and leverage automation and artificial/cognitive intelligence

“Innovation leadership”

Vendor-agnostic innovation partner for clientsVision to provide any offering "as-a-service" (cloud first approach)

Accenture is going to market primarily as a vendor-agnostic service provider but continues to invest in its own IPin business and IT where required, to benefit from high market growth and more strongly set itself apart fromcompetitors.

With its end-to-end services portfolio and its innovation-led and industry-focused approach, Accenture clearlyhas a leading position. A key objective is to rotate all services delivered to clients to the "new" services, i.e.digital-, cloud- and security-related. In its third quarter (which ended May 31, 2017), Accenture announced amilestone, claiming 50% of its total net revenues were generated by services "in the new" segment – comparedto 40% in FY 2016.

Page 8: Worldwide | 2017

STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES

Accenture has a strong management consulting

background with the ability to combine business

consulting with industry-tailored IT solutions.

Accenture is a leader in digital transformation topics,

offering an end-to-end service value chain for digital

topics and taking a clear position as trusted advisor for

its clients' digital journeys.

With Accenture Interactive, the company has a strong

end-to-end offering for CMO organizations, making it

one of the largest digital agencies worldwide.

Accenture Innovation Architecture is a highly mature

and integrated approach to foster innovation across the

organization, with clients as well as with partners and

ecosystems.

Accenture invests comparably strongly in its innovation

approach (R&D, labs, M&A, training, new services, etc.).

The company maintains strong process and vertical

knowledge, which is extended through a number of

niche consulting acquisitions.

The company has the ability to successfully take on a

high number of "value-based" contracts.

Accenture has a leading SAP practice for consulting and

systems integration in the US and worldwide.

It has a strong BPO offering – especially F&A,

procurement, and utilities, which have been

further developed through acquisitions.

Accenture has industrialized its low-level project

service work through its global delivery network and is

now focusing on automation for further efficiency and

effectiveness.

The company has long-standing client relationships with

large corporates.

It also has a strong brand awareness in the IT services

industry.

Accenture is not actively targeting the mid-market, which

could be a disadvantage since – in some markets –

innovative ideas and creative approaches evolve from

this market segment.

Accenture's business in IoT and artificial intelligence is

less mature than in other "digital" activities, but this is

being addressed (it is fast-growing) and is partly due to

the embryonic nature of these topics.

Due to its complex organizational structure, Accenture is

sometimes not perceived as flexible and agile enough

to respond to ad-hoc client requirements.

For complex requirements. Accenture tends to create

even more complex solutions.

SWOT Analysis

SITSI | Vendor Analysis | Vendor Profile | Accenture | Worldwide | 2017 8

Page 9: Worldwide | 2017

OPPORTUNITIES THREATS

With a strong focus on automation, Accenture can

further improve offshore services productivity (total

project costs) as a way of differentiating from the "race to

the bottom" on rates.

The rapidly growing adoption of cloud-based services

forms an opportunity for Accenture to leverage its "cloud

first" strategy, which is fueling much larger IT

service projects for on-premise and SaaS integrations.

Accenture's strong capabilities in new SAP technologies

(HANA, Leonardo) as well as the close alliance with

SAP form an enabler for further growth in the SAP HANA

market (incl. S/4HANA) and position Accenture as a

leading provider of end-to-end services for SAP in the

context of digital transformation.

The end-to-end portfolio for business and IT consulting

and services offers a great opportunity to accelerate

growth in the IoT space based on existing use cases.

With Accenture following its "Cloud First" approach, it is

to a certain extent cannibalizing its

"traditional" business, but Accenture is proactively

working to migrate its "traditional" business to new,

cloud-based business models, thus turning this threat

into an opportunity.

Accenture has created a super-efficient delivery

organization and model, designed for large projects

for large customers. However, PAC anticipates that

projects – especially in the digital topics – will

become increasingly smaller, as they will be broken into

smaller pieces, also by large IT users.

Although Accenture is actively working on re-balancing

its GDN, PAC considers the huge share of India in its

GDN as a potential risk that must be addressed both

through re-balancing as well as automation initiatives.

There is a danger of an increasing gap between the

speed of portfolio transformation ("rotating to the new")

and the capability of local sales and delivery resources

to upskill.

Attracting and retaining the right talent can become a

barrier to growth for Accenture as the "war for

talent" heats up.

With an increasing share of Accenture's business being

"digital" and digital technologies included in all offerings

and business units, it is unclear if and how the

Accenture Digital BU should be positioned in future.

There is intensive competition from Indian vendors

(TCS, Cognizant, Wipro, Infosys); they experience

strong growth and profitability, are aggressively

targeting the US and European market, recruiting local

talent and building out their digital transformation

capabilities.

MAJOR GROWTH DRIVERS MAJOR OBSTACLES

Compared to previous years, Europe has become a

stronger growth driver for Accenture, growing equally

strong as North America in FY 2016. In the first

nine months of FY 2017, Europe grew even faster

than North America. Accenture's "Growth

Market" region is also showing increasingly strong

growth, though from a lower base level (Growth Markets

includes: APAC, Latin America, Africa, Middle East,

Russia and Turkey).

Accenture's vertical "products" (i.e. manufacturing)

showed the highest growth rate, followed by health &

public services and financial services.

C&SI (11% growth) grew faster than outsourcing

services (4% growth) in FY 2016 but has slowed since

then. C&SI growth was strongest in the Products vertical,

followed by FS, health & public and CMT. In

particular, Accenture experienced substantial growth in

digital-related C&SI services (esp. consulting, but also

pull-through technology implementation services), esp.

in the products vertical.

Outsourcing growth was most pronounced in the health

& public service sector, followed by products and

financial services. Accenture sees demand esp. in cloud

enablement and operation and maintenance of digital-

related services, but also operations transformation for

improved effectiveness and cost reduction.

Accenture's Operations BU has been

showing consistent double-digit growth since the

beginning of FY 2016 up until today (as of July 2017).

Accenture's "resources" vertical (energy, utilities and

natural resources) saw low growth (3%) in FY 2016 and

has been flat ever since. This is partly due to the low oil

price.

Accenture is in a comfortable growth position that could

only be hampered by the challenge of recruiting a

sufficient number (and quality) of talent to meet current

demand.

Accenture’s history dates back to 1954, when Andersen & Co. began to separate its consulting servicesfrom its accounting services. Andersen Consulting became an independent unit under the parentcompany, Andersen Worldwide, in 1989. In 2000, the unit formally became independent when aninternational arbitrator approved Andersen Consulting’s separation from the parent company. In 2001,Andersen Consulting went public and renamed itself Accenture. Since then, Accenture has become amajor provider of business and IT consulting, as well as of business and IT services to largecorporations and government agencies worldwide. The company offers a broad range of strategic, process, and business-related consulting, in addition to IT system design, development, integration, and outsourcing/BPO services. With more than 410,000 employees, Accenture ranks among thelargest professional services firms. The company is a strong supplier to most of the markets in which itoperates.

According to PAC’s estimates, the manufacturing and public sectors represent the largest proportion ofAccenture’s revenues, together accounting for around 50% of global revenues. While Accenture'sproject services business is still the main source of revenue, the outsourcing share has been growingat a steady pace, thanks to the increased emphasis on "technology consulting" or infrastructureservices. This growth in outsourcing has been crucial in stabilizing the company's revenues and hasintroduced the company as an all-in-one BPO provider. Accenture is now positioning itself as a providerof end-to-end services for business and IT services.
