The War began when Adolf Hitler, the Nazi Party leader of Germany, decided that Germany should expand and become the biggest and most powerful country in the world. Hitler's forces invaded Poland on September 1st 1939. Some countries,

including Britain, did not wish to allow Hitler to do this and so on September 3rd 1939

Neville Chamberlain, the Prime Minister of Great Britain declared War on Germany.
