FROM PALE ALE TO PILSNER, LAGER TO STOUT, THE HUMBLE BEER IS ENJOYING A CULINARY COMEBACK. OUR CRAFT BEER SCENE IS BOOMING, WITH HUNDREDS OF NEW VARIETIES ON OFFER.Good Beer Week, now in its fi fth year, is the perfect way to celebrate all things beer. Described by leading international brewers as the ‘best beer week in the world,’ festival-goers can choose from 250 events at 180 venues across the state, including a children’s farm and a prison.
Along with premiere events like the Australian International Beer Awards, Craft Brewers Conference and Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular, the festival is cementing Melbourne’s position as the country’s craft beer capital.
I am pleased to welcome local, interstate and international brewers and beer lovers to Melbourne. Whether you make it, serve it or just love to drink it, there’s something for everyone (as long as you’re over 18).
Cheers and drink responsibly!
THE ROYAL AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY OF VICTORIA (RASV) IS DELIGHTED TO BE A FESTIVAL SUPPORTER OF GOOD BEER WEEK (GBW), COINCIDING JUDGING OF THE AUSTRALIAN INTERNATIONAL BEER AWARDS (AIBA) WITH GBW THIS YEAR. WE CONGRATULATE THE GBW TEAM AND THE AUSTRALIAN BEER INDUSTRY ON A SUCCESSFUL AND EXCITING PROGRAM.AIBA, conducted annually by RASV, celebrates beer and brewing excellence in Australia and around the world, awarding up to 30 champion and major trophies, across a diverse range of styles.
Judging for the 23rd AIBA, the largest
annual beer competition in the world judging packaged and draught beer, takes place in the days before GBW, with the largest line up of respected beer experts from across the globe descending on Melbourne to assess over 1400 beers. The integrity of the AIBA judging process ensures any medals awarded are a true seal of excellence giving beer lovers confi dence in purchasing the best premium beer.
2015 Medal winners can be viewed at www.rasv.com.au.
We encourage you to try exceptional AIBA award winning beers during “the best beer week in the world”- Good Beer Week!
THE RAPID RISE OF GOOD BEER WEEK FROM A CASUAL CONVERSATION OVER BEERS IN FEBRUARY 2011 TO A FESTIVAL WITH GLOBAL IMPACT IN JUST FOUR YEARS HAS BEEN REMARKABLE.During the joyous celebration that was the fi rst Good Beer Week in May 2011, the signs were there that Melbourne and the exploding craft beer scene would be a match made in heaven. And so it’s proved.
Good Beer Week has achieved prominence in a city not exactly lacking major festivals by taking a genuine grass roots approach, one that mirrors that of the breweries and venues that are its lifeblood. Totally
independent and committed to celebrating innovation and quirkiness, in 2015 its 250 events feature everything from three Chef’s Hat degustations to doom metal.
Its success is testament to the incredible passion of the tiny festival team and the warm embrace of the beer world and the people of Melbourne – now cemented as the home of good beer in Australia.
Good Beer Week is dedicated to bringing better beer to a new and wider audience and educating people about this wonderful era in the ancient beverage’s long history that we’re living through.
With the 2015 Festival Hub at Beer DeLuxe – the site of that fi rst casual conversation – there’s a sense of going back to where it all began. It’s just that, this time around, we’ve invited thousands more friends from every corner of the beer world and the City of Melbourne is joining us too.
Cheers!
“THE BEST IN THE WORLD”MOYLAN’S & BROOKLYN BREWERY, USA.
“THE CENTRE OF THE BEER WORLD THAT WEEK”
YEASTIE BOYS, NZ.
“THE MOST PROFESSIONAL [AND] DIVERSE”
DESCHUTES, USA.
AND SO GOOD BEER WEEK 2015 IS ALMOST UPON US. FROM ITS HUMBLE BEGINNINGS IN 2011 GOOD BEER WEEK HAS GROWN TO BE A BEER EVENT OF INTERNATIONAL RENOWN. THIS IS A REMARKABLE ACHIEVEMENT FOR WHICH THE ORGANISERS DESERVE MANY PLAUDITS.
Since 2013 the Craft Beer Industry Association has been proud to present the Australian Craft Brewers Conference as part of Good Beer Week. The conference has also continued to grow and this year, in its new surrounds of the Melbourne
Convention and Exhibition Centre, we will be presenting the most comprehensive and wide-ranging programme yet.In 2015 you can expect even greater opportunities to meet with industry suppliers, share experiences and knowledge with other brewers and brewing businesses, add to your own industry education, catch up with old friends and meet new ones – and yes, possibly squeeze in a beer or two!We hope to see you all there and wish everybody a great Good Beer Week 2015.Cheers.

If ever you were looking for evidence of the potential for pairing beer with food, the GBW FOODIE stream is it.The rise of events pairing good beer and fi ne food within the festival has been nothing less than remarkable, with the Foodie stream bulging with culinary creativity. The events elevate the concept of beer and food pairing to new heights, proving that good beer, presented in the right manner, is the match for any beverage in any establishment.
If you’ve already embraced good beer, the beer lover stream is packed with diverse events to satisfy your every beery whim. There are themed weeklong showcases, copious chances to meet brewers from home and abroad, casual events pairing beer with everything from dumplings to donkatsu, and much more. The headline Beer Lover event sees us return to Vue de Monde Rialto as some of Belgium’s most iconic breweries face down one of Australia’s top wineries over fi ve courses.
Now that good beer has hit the mainstream there are more people than ever discovering the magic possible with water, malt, hops & yeast.Beer 101 is the place to look if you or your mates are new to craft beer. Presented in conjunction with Little Creatures, who are turning their Dining Hall into Good Beer College for the week, this is your chance to go from a beginner to a pro. The stream is full of fun and friendly ways to learn about good beer – while drinking good beer, of course.
Where would GBW be without the beer geeks? They’re the faithful on the hunt for something new, never shy with their opinions, allowing us to be daring with our programming. For the fi fth Good Beer Week, we’re celebrating the global nature of the contemporary beer world with a fi ve-way international masterclass & collaboration at Melbourne’s hi-tech new Hawkers brewery. Elsewhere in Beer Geek, there are events celebrating barrels, sours, beer & spirits, home brewing and much more.
In 2015, Good Beer Week’s Good Times is really coming into its own, with close to 50 colourful events with a focus fi rmly on fun.It kicks off with our opening night party featuring live music, awesome beers and star guests at the new Festival Hub and takes in comedy, gaming and a musical lineup that goes from jazz to Aussie rock to doom metal. Seriously.

It’s not just the growth from 50-odd events in 2011 to 250 in 2015 that highlights how far the festival – and indeed the Australian beer industry – has come. The nine days of Good Beer Week have become home to many of the beer world’s landmark events. We’ve worked with the Australian International Beer Awards since year one, were joined by the Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular in year two, the Australian Craft Brewers Conference in year three and, now, in year fi ve, TimeOut Melbourne is hosting its Pub Awards during Good Beer Week too. It’s a privilege to work with such great partners as we prepare to deliver the best celebration of good beer Melbourne, Victoria and Australia has ever seen. As in previous years, we’ve categorised the events into fi ve streams (outlined below) to help you plan your perfect week. We’ve also redesigned the map pages to make navigating the city easier and included a quick reference guide to all events at the rear of the booklet. After two fantastic years at The Terminus, in Fitzroy North, the Festival Hub is moving to the heart of the city. It will be at Beer DeLuxe in Fed Square, meaning a return to the venue where the very fi rst conversation that turned into Good Beer Week took place in February 2011.Beer DeLuxe is much changed. Good Beer Week is much changed. The local and international beer worlds are much changed. One thing that hasn’t changed is our passion for good beer and we can’t wait to share it with you, whether for the fi rst time or fi fth, starting with our opening party on May 15. Cheers!
FIVE? SERIOUSLY? IT DOESN’T SEEM THAT LONG AGO THAT WE WERE JOINED BY A SMALL, PASSIONATE TROOP OF BEER LOVERS FOR GOOD BEER WEEK I. YET HERE WE ARE CELEBRATING OUR FIFTH BIRTHDAY WITH A PROGRAM ALMOST FIVE TIMES THE SIZE OF THAT IN MAY 2011 AND WITH AN AUDIENCE NUMBERING TENS OF THOUSANDS FROM ALL CORNERS OF THE WORLD.

Australia is a bloody big country dotted with an ever-growing number of breweries. It means it’s one hell of a challenge to get around and sample beers from them all.
Which is where the Pint of Origin comes in. Now in its fourth year, the Crafty Pint-curated corner of the Good Beer Week program off ers visitors the chance to sample hundreds of beers from across
Australia and overseas at their own leisure without leaving the city. Six venues will become home to the six Aussie states for the week with three others representing New Zealand, Europe and the USA.
Keep an eye on the Pint of Origin section of the website for latest tap lists and pop-up events and use #PoO15 to record your adventures in PoO.

For the 2015 festival, Good Beer Week is heading back to where it all began.
In February 2011, a group of mates were chatting over beers at Beer DeLuxe when the idea of a beer week
was fi rst raised. Four years on, Fed Square’s home of great beer becomes the 2015 Good Beer Week Festival Hub.
After two awesome years at The Terminus, in Fitzroy North, we’re taking the Hub into the heart of the city to make it easier for more people to enjoy a slice of the action. With dozens of taps, two beer gardens, two kitchens, a late, late license and a great location, Beer DeLuxe will be a throbbing hive of activity day and night.
The festival kicks off with the Opening Party at the Hub on May 15. Then, throughout the week, Beer DeLuxe will be pouring incredible beers across its taps – including those from our Offi cial Festival Beer partners Mountain Goat, Boatrocker, Holgate Brewhouse and Feral. CONT.
WHAT’S ON ALL WEEK: Open 11:30am to late every day Kitchen open late every night An ever-changing lineup of great aussie & international beers Pop-up meet the brewer chats Dinner & breakfast events Weeklong burger & goat beer deal Competitions & giveaways Rotating taps Good times, and good fun
STAY UP TO DATE WITH THE LATEST VIA THE DEDICATED HUB PAGE ON GOODBEERWEEK.COM.AU
The Hub is also hosting a range of events, from ticketed dinners and the Hair of the Dog Breakfast to casual Meet the Brewer chats, weeklong beer and burger deals and the Closing Party. There will be chances to win exclusive branded glassware from Craftd Glass too.

Proudly brewed by The Local Taphouse, GABS is Australia’s greatest beer and food festival, celebrating innovation, education and the appreciation of craft beer.
Enjoy samples from the 300 beers on off er (including 120 brewed especially for the event), brewery exhibitor stands, artisan food vendors, educational seminars, live entertainment, fun activities and much more.
With 12,000 people expected, this is a unique experience not to be missed.
ALMOST FOUR AND HALF YEARS AGO, WE HELD A HUGELY SUCCESSFUL EVENT AT THE LOCAL TAPHOUSES, OUR CRAFT BEER VENUES IN MELBOURNE AND SYDNEY, SHOWCASING 20 BEERS BREWED ESPECIALLY FOR THE OCCASION BY THE BEST BREWERS IN AUSTRALIA. FOR SOME TIME WE HAD BEEN TOYING AROUND WITH THE IDEA OF SUPERSIZING ONE OF OUR THEMED “SPECTAPULAR” EVENTS AND THIS WAS OUR LIGHTBULB MOMENT.
In May 2012, the fi rst Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular (or GABS as it has become aff ectionately known) was held over three days at Melbourne’s Royal Exhibition Building. More than 11,000 people turned up, far more than we expected. Subsequent years have seen the event improve greatly to the point where some international brewers consider it one of the best beer festivals in the world. That hasn’t stopped us from trying to make the GABS experience even better and this year we have lots to get excited about, not least that GABS is also heading to Sydney for the fi rst time. Ticket prices are also now better value than ever with our new Beer Buddies tickets starting at less than $30 (plus booking fee).So where do you start at GABS? Here’s some of the highlights to look forward to this May.
• Lining up our famous tasting paddles with samples from more than 300 beers available, including 120 ‘Festival Beers’ made exclusively for the event.
• The Dan Murphy’s Market Place featuring brewery stands, including a Taste New Zealand area, and more than 150 exciting and fun events scheduled.
• Food off erings from the likes of Uncle, Milk the Cow, Huxtaburger, Mr Claws and Meatmother.
• Two education areas: The Local Taphouse ‘Craft Beer College’ and Steel ‘Adventures in Craft’ focusing on beer & food & fun, out there beer experiences.
• The new Little Creatures Carnival featuring roving performers, spectacular shows and more.
• The Kegstar table tennis ‘Kegaseum’ will see brewers take on beer fans in a round robin competition for bragging rights.
Make sure you download the Offi cial GABS apps for tasting notes and beer and food pairing suggestions. And take advantage of the fantastic value off ers in the GABS Craft Beer Passport. We’re doing everything we can to make sure that you have the best experience possible as we celebrate and appreciate craft beer.Enjoy yourselves and please drink responsibly. Cheers!

What is your relationship to good beer? As the State Sales Manager for Hawkers Beer, it aff ords me the bacon that I bring home...and provides an excellent beverage pairing to go with said bacon.

What’s been your fi nest GBW moment? No matter which event, I always feel like I’ve just walked into a pub fi lled with my favourite people.
