ABOUT US

Composites Testing Laboratory (CTL) was

established as an accredited testing laboratory

for advanced composite materials in 1998, and

is the only independent test laboratory within

the EU specialising in composite materials

testing.

CTL offer customers a fast, flexible and cost

competitive service which includes mechanical

(static, dynamic and impact), environmental

and physical testing.

» First Part Qualifcations

» Design Allowable Campaigns

» Material Qualifcations

» Process Control

» Research and Development

Our customer base includes clients

in aerospace, renewable energy,

automotive and space sectors.

Key resources, knowledge and know-

how have provided CTL with the

capabilities and skills to carry out

testing for all types of test programmes.

TEST PROGRAMMES

STATIC TESTING CTL testing of composites. Our lab

have vast experience in static

is equipped with machines that allow the most

diffcult and demanding tests, all operated by

highly skilled technicians.

» Load capacity up to 400kN

» Operating range from -70°C to +200°C

» Biaxial extensometers and LVDTs for strain

and displacement measurement

» Strain gauge data acquisition systems

» Drop weight Impacting up to 80J

» Test fixtures for various test types

Fatigue testing is a growing part of our

business. CTL have made signifcant

investments in its fatigue capabilities to

meet this new demand.

» Five machines with load capacity up to

250kN

» Operating range from -70°C to +

200°C

» Dynamic extensometers for strain

measurement

» Compatibility with static test fxtures

FATIGUE TESTING

ENVIRONMENTAL TESTING

Hot/wet environmental chambers allow CTL to

condition specimens at 70°C/85%RH to saturation prior

to mechanical testing.

The immersion of specimens in aggressive fuids (Jet

Fuel / Skydrol / Oils / Solvents) is also possible using

temperature controlled immersion baths.

PHYSICAL, THERMAL, NDT

& MICROSECTION TESTING

CTL offer a range of physical, thermal and

microsection tests including:

» Fibre volume fraction (Acid digestion & burn-off)

» DMA

» Macro and microsection analysis

» Non-destructive testing: C-scan & A-scan

MACHINING & PREPARATION

Sample preparation is vital for composites testing. CTL

have extensive experience in all aspects of specimen

preparation and machining including

» Final end-machining

» End-tabbing

» Drilling and assembly

» Strain gauging

MANUFACTURING

CTL in conjunction with its parent company,

ÉireComposites Teo., can offer a unique start

to finish service for production and testing of

composite test laminates.

» Autoclave and RTM processing of thermosets

and thermoplastics

» Unique IP and skills in thermoplastics

» Composite layup facilities including clean-room

» Refrigerated storage facilities for prepreg

ÉireComposites is accredited to EN 9100 and
