BACKGROUND

Health Preparedness at the World Cup in skiflying performs emergency medical care for athletes, delegates and audience during and immediately before and after the ski jumping competition. Just as Flying Team Vikersund AS aims to conduct superior technical races, the Medical Team wants to provide superior medical treatment. The Medical team in Vikersund aims to be the leader in emergency preparedness in skijumping, and sport events in general. The Medical Team shall: • Reflect the size of the event, reflect local medical traditions and conditions. • Be well adapted to the number of athletes, staff and spectators LOC Chief of Medicine is responsible for the medical preparedness. Strategic leading in the venue is lead from the local Operation Central, which is manned with a senior operative member from the Medical Team. The medical emergency preparedness plan is divided in two main sections: • Emergency medical preparedness for jumpers. This is located in its own dedicated emergency room, in the immediate vicinity of the slope of the hill. Treatment-level here will, if necessary, be advanced and with the same stabilizing treatment as is done in the national air ambulance service. An evacuation team is always ready to attend jumpers. There are two emergency teams prepared, in order to handle two injuries at the same time. During test and trial-jumping there are sometimes capacity for only one serious injury. Dedicated ambulances are situated at the emergency room in order to start immediate transport after necessary stabilisation. Involved personnel have extensive background from prehospital service, including ground and air ambulance.

• Health preparedness for spectators

Also located in a separate emergency room. It is lead by senior medical staff in cooperation with experienced general practitioners. There is also a dedicated ambulance to the public. Treatment level here would be the same as at an emergency clinic and in the general ambulance service.

The medical staff consists of doctors, nurses and paramedics. The personnel are recruited wide, but the main stem of the personnel have their daily work at Drammen hospital and the ambulance service in Vestre Viken Hospital Trust. In recruitment we emphasize personal qualities and professional background.

We also have EMS personnel in the top of the venue, so that the response time will be fast also there. We use ambulances, ATV and First Responder vehicles in our responces.
