World Championship Athletics comes to Qatar for the first time with all sessions at the highly impressive and award winning Khalifa stadium, the first completed venue that will host a part of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

There is a fan friendly timetable to let everyone enjoy the competition in lower temperatures at night giving relaxing days and plenty of time to explore the area. Staying in a fantastic HQ hotel at more than reasonable prices. We know what you want and have chosen a base that gives you the ability to have a beer with friends before and after each days sport and watch other sporting events on big screens all without leaving the premises. We are located on the coast, near restaurants and shopping centres to make the most of the days while there.

Qatar is one of the seven Arab States and regarded as one of the most liberal and wants to be seen as a world sports capital and they have been and continue to invest heavily!

A huge amount of infrastructure has gone in since the 2010 Indoor World Championship. The modern elegance of the city with the more traditional Arabic souks and activities can be enjoyed while away with us. Qatar is very well located for easy travel to surrounding countries or as a stop-over for travel to continue – how about a once in a life time trip to Jordan and Petra!

Included in all packages is a group event before the final session, departing from the hotels. All trips are fully flexible and can be tailored to any need with the main packages taking in 11, 7 with bespoke package of 4 nights to suit you.

Main tour Itineraries

The Athletics programme consists of only one session per day in the evening which will allow time for plenty of time to lie-in after any late finishes and relaxing or exploring the city.

You might also consider an extra day or two on either side for orientation or to maximise your experience in the city. If appropriate, please contact us for additional information. An example trip for all sessions -

DOHA CITY and HALF DAY TOURS There is plenty of time to see the best of the country with each session starting in the evenings. We DO NOT include a city trip as we don’t want you to pay for something you don’t want. Trips can be booked privately or as part of a small group with more info to follow before departure. All trips are approx 4hours except North Historical trip 6hours (highly recommended). A closing event with food and drink is included and expect lots of fun! HOTELS – HQ 4* Superior We are delighted to have one of the best hotels in Doha, an excellent brand, superb location, onsite bar serving alcohol, large modern rooms and being very close to the waterfront and shops and restaurants you will be very happy. A package at fantastic prices for the GB supporters to be able to enjoy and relax together. Hotel includes an outdoor pool, health club, European restaurant on site and daily Brunch buffet (for late risers after the night before sport or socialising.) We have provisions for group events, updated info for the Champs, sociable interaction and day trips departing from reception.

Temperatures in September/ October are 28-34 C during the day and cooler in the evening, hence the sessions starting later in the day. Marathons and Walks will be held at the coolest time around midnight.

*Champion A & B seating area are unallocated at 100m start and on 200m bend on. In RED is the finish line section and in light blue the A tickets which will be the most popular especially as prices are so good.

Airport Transfers

These are included in your tour costs. All arrivals to Hamad International (Doha) airport will be met and transferred to hotels by private transfer per flight to HQ hotel and by bus/taxi/minibus depending on numbers to other hotels. All 5* bookings have private transfers included.

Journey time is only approx 15-25 minutes depending on the hotel chosen.

Local Culture & Alcohol

Doha is fairly liberal by the standards in the Middle East, though less so than most Western countries. Alcohol is legal for non-Muslims, and non-Muslim women are not required to wear the hijab, though dressing in skimpy outfits is still illegal. Drinking alcohol is permitted in international 4-5* hotels but you must have your passport with you to gain entrance to the bar, and as expected it is an offence to be drunk or drink alcohol in public.

Tour Management

Your tour leader, Benjamin Woolnough, will be on hand 24 hours a day for the duration, available at breakfast and every evening in the main hotels for consultations and planning for the week, to help with

tour bookings and more. Kelly Woolnough and local guides are also on hand throughout the event to help make your sporting holiday the best it can be.

Transport

Public transportation in Doha is better developed than in other Gulf countries, but still not as impressive as Dubai’s or other Western countries. The bus is a good option if you aren’t in a hurry to get anywhere and want to take in the sights and feel of the real city. They are also air conditioned and cheap!

Taxis are a very popular way to get around Doha. They can be difficult to spot and flag down, but they are quite cheap which makes them a good option. Hotels and mall taxi ranks are the recommended way to travel. Uber is also available. Traffic can get very congested at peak times so allow yourself extra time to get to your destination.

**Stadium transfers are at discounted price and organised with everyone once tour complete. Private hire of coaches are very expensive and limits us to all travel together. We have been advised that dedicated cars and mini vans are better value. All can be reserved at times to suit, with your friends through us or the local tourist board who we work with.

British Airways and Qatar Airways offer a very good service into Doha. If your flight gets in at night you won’t need to worry about going hungry because all shops and restaurants stay open late. We recommend night flights to arrive in the morning so you don’t miss a day and can beat jet lag quickest!

JORDAN, AMMAN, PETRA & THE DEAD SEA

Depart Qatar the day after competition finishes for an incredible bucket list trip to Petra and beyond –departs on Tuesday. Jordan 3 day tour includes Petra, Wadi Rum, Aqaba, Jerash, Madaba, and Mount Nebo. 3 days 2 nights plus 1 night in Amman from £549 – all entrances, guides, transport, many meals.
