Workshop Report
On
“Research Methodology and Proposal Writing”
Date: 7th March 2019
Time : 10.30am to 5.30pm
Venue : HET’s CCSIT Seminar hall.
Introduction: The Department of Biophysics, University of Mumbai and HET’s CCSIT jointly organized a
one day workshop on “RESEARCH METHODOLOGY AND PROPOSAL WRITING” On 7TH March
2019. A total of 34 participants attended this workshop.
Research has become an integral part of the teaching, learning and evaluation process in education. Teachers
need to become good researchers and research guides. It isn’t difficult to orient oneself towards research.
Learning research methodology is the first step for the beginners in research. Research methodology is the
details of specific procedures, sequence of studies as well as tools and techniques to be used in collection and
analysis of data. Use of an appropriate research design ensures the reliability of research. A number of
funding agencies are there to provide financial assistance for research. Private sector too can finance the
research projects that address their problems and issues. For claiming these funds, the researchers must write
flawless proposals.
Objectives:
1. To initiate research among the teachers and students in rural area like Mahad.
2. To give information to teachers and students about the steps in scientific research.
3. To make the participants understand the importance of research designing.
4. To provide an idea about the funding agencies and the proposal to be written to get funding.
5. To familiarize the participants with modern tools of data analysis and the quality standards of
research.
6. To introduce the emerging trends in research in Computer Science and Information Technology along
with the choice of journals to publish their work.
Collaborators:
The workshop was organized by the IQAC of HET’s CCSIT in collaboration with the Department of
Biophysics, University of Mumbai, under the lab to land program of the University.

Proceedings:
1) The workshop was inaugurated by lighting the lamp and worshipping lord Saraswati.
2) Then the University song was played. Dr. P. G. Kale, Principal HET’s CCSIT hosted the proceedings
and introduced all the resource persons.
3) Mr. Sudesh Kadam, CS HOD, felicitated Dr. Snehal Donde, convener and the resource person for the
workshop offering shawl and a tulsi sapling as token of love.
4) Mrs.Jyothi.V.Poojary, IQAC coordinator felicitated Dr. Prabhakar M. Dongre, the co-convener and
resource person for the workshop, offering shawl and a tulsi sapling as token of love.
5) Mrs. Pallavi.Kale ,BMS HOD, Felicitated Dr. Ramesh S. Yamgar, the resource person for the
workshop offering shawl and a tulsi sapling as token of love.
6) Mrs. Anushka Salunkhe ,DLLE Convener , felicitated Dr. Kamatchi Iyyer, the resource person for the
workshop offering shawl and a tulsi sapling as token of love.
7) Convener and resource person, Hon. Dr. Snehal Donde, then gave a presentation on research
designing. In her illustration she went over all the steps in scientific research methodology. The need
to define the research problem and a hypothesis was stressed upon. The survey literature not only
gives a fair idea about the research design but also guides one in selection of topic of research. Dr.
Donde said that there is no harm in repeating a study done several years ago or in some other
geographical area. She emphasized the need to choose an appropriate design for the research to ensure
the reliability of it. Her presentation was well received by the audience.
8) The co-convener and resource person, Dr. Prabhakar Dongre in his session gave a detailed account of
writing proposal and also familiarized the participants with various funding agencies with the areas of
research for which they extend the funds. He also discussed the probable reasons for rejection of the
proposal for funding and to avoid these meticulously while writing the proposal. He discussed an
ideal proposal that could claim a sumptuous amount of funding while developing the training and
research laboratories in the Department of Biophysics.
9) Following the lunch break, Dr. R. Kamatchi Iyer, spoke about the emerging areas in computer
science and information technology and also discuss the types of research papers as well as the
criteria for selecting journal for publishing them. She explained that to begin with, review
articles may be composed and published in the research journal without great impact factor and
later the research papers be published in the journals that are more prestigious and with greater
impact factors. She also furnished a list of standard journals in the field of Computer Science
and Information Technology.
10) Dr. Ramesh Yamgar, the next resource person, spoke about the analytical tools and techniques,
vital to the research. For the proper interpretation of the data, choice of appropriate analytical
tools and methods is vital, he said. He also gave an idea about the quality indices of research. He
too talked about the methods for selecting research journal for publishing papers. He informed
the participants that publications in good research journals will not only help in promoting
personal career but raises the credentials of the institution as well.
11) A brief session of question answers was held in which the resource persons answered the queries of
the participants.
12) Mr. Sudesh Kadam, offered memento to all the resource persons.

convener and resource persons.
14) The participants were given the participation certificates at the hands of convener, co-convener and
resource persons.
15) The convener of the workshop and chief advisory to HET, Dr. S. S. Donde then expressed the vote of
thanks. In her concluding address she urged all to take keen interest in research work and
passionately work towards it. She explained how this shall help individual to improve teaching
learning too and raise quality of education in respective institutions to which participants belong. Also
she suggested to refer some top journals to learn standard method and pattern of research. She
emphasized on lab to land practices so as to benefit the society at large. Community related survey
work must be started from development perspectives. A feedback in a written format was obtained
from all the participants.
