The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics IAEA Workshop on Trends in Nanoscience: Theory, Experiment, Technology 23 - 30 August 2009 Sibiu, Romania SPONSORED BY The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), in co-operation with the National Institute of Physics and Nuclear Engineering (IFIN-HH), the University Lucian Blaga (ULB) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is organizing the Workshop on Trends in Nanoscience: Theory, Experiment, to take place in Sibiu, Romania from 23 to 30 August 2009. Nanoscience is a rapid developing field, whose dynamics and prospects pose great challenges to scientists and engineers. It is one of the most visible and growing multidisciplinary research areas, both in fundamental and applied physics. The aim of this workshop is to facilitate experts and active researchers to exchange ideas and information on the most recent results in nanophysics and nanotechnology. It will be also an opportunity for young researchers and for researchers from developing countries to enlarge their knowledge and to approach new themes in this area. The lecturers will be leading experimental and theoretical researchers in these fields. They will address lectures of 45, 30 or 20 minutes. A poster session will be also organized. Further information about the workshop is available at: http://zamolxes.th eory.nipne.ro/nano09/ Topics: # Transport properties in nanosystems He Nanophotonics # Mechanical and optical properties of nanosystems # Nanomagnetism He Semiconductor nanotechnology He Medical use of nanomaterials He Radiation synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials Participation The activity is open to researchers from member countries of the United Nations, UNESCO or IAEA. As it will be conducted in English, participants should have an adequate working knowledge of that language. Although the principal objective of the ICTP is to help research workers from developing countries, through a programme of training activities within a framework of international cooperation, scientists from developed countries are also welcome to attend. Every effort should be made by candidates to secure support. However, limited funds are available for some participants (for accommodation or airfare), who are nationals of, and working in, a developing country, and who are not more than 40 years old. Participants are required to take part in all aspects of this activity for its entire duration. 77?ere is no registration fee. HOW TO APPLY FOR PARTICIPATION Candidates should complete and submit the Online Application that can be found at: http://aqenda.ictp.it/smr.php72078. Comprehensive instructions will guide you step-by- step on how to fill out and submit the application form. Kindly send all file attachments in Word or Acrobat format.
