Dr. Reza HajianIntroductionChemometrics is a branch of science that derives data by the application of mathematical and statistical meth-ods, for the extraction of useful information from physi-cal and chemical phenomena involved in a chemical process. There is a vast amount of measurement data generated by the laboratory instruments in chemical research which are difficult to interpret. The use of chemometrics helps to perform such a challenging task of consuming the data and reveal the useful informa-tion. Some applications of chemometrics include chemistry, medical sciences, biology, chemical engi-neering, and electronics.

This workshop is aimed to provide an excellent platform to introduce the chemometrics concept and its applications in optimization and quantitative analysis for solving challenges in various disciplines of science.

ObjectivesThis workshop is aimed to provide an excellent platform to introduce the chemometrics concept and its applications in optimization and quantitative analysis for solving challenges in various disciplines of science. The main objectives focus on training experimental design and simplex as two basic methods in optimiza-tion and also quantitative methods (Univariate & multi-variate calibration) through modeling with excel and Matlab software.

ProgramThe workshop will be conducted in lecture and hands on sessions facilitated by the invited speaker. Lectures will be delivered based on a given set of course notes in optimization and also quantitative methods (Univariate & multivariate calibration) through modeling with excel and Matlab software.

Reza Hajian studied applied chemistry at the Islamic Azad University, Iran and was awarded the BSc degree in 1999 and his MSc degree in 2003 from University of Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences, Iran. After completing his Ph.D. at Isfahan University of Technology in 2006, he served as a senior lecturer in Islamic Azad University from 2006-2010. He was as a postdoctoral research fellow at University of Malaya for two years (2010-2012). In 2013, he joined to Institute of Advanced Technology at Universiti Putra Malaysia, where he became as a fellow researcher in research group of Prof. Nor Azah Yusof. His main research interests concerns with chemometrics, electrochemical sensors, anticancer drug-DNA interactions and environmental analysis. Reza Hajian has authored over 50 refereed research papers and 20 proceedings.

Awards:• The best thesis and publication award, University of Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences, Zanjan, Iran (2002).• The best researcher award, Islamic Azad University, Iran, Three years (2007-2009).• High Impact Publication Award, Young Researchers and Elite Club, Iran, Three Years (2008-2010).

Professional Membership:• Member of the National Foundation for Prominent Figures, Tehran, Iran• Member of the Azad University Exceptional Talents' Society, Tehran, Iran
