Art: Origami

(1) This is Japan . (2) In Japan, people make one

thousand origami cranes, a Senbazuru, to have a wish .

(3) In 1945, an atomic bomb landed on Hiroshima . (4) Because

of the bomb, a girl called Sadako Sasaki was ill .

(5) She decided to make a Senbazuru because she wanted to

live. She fi nished 644 cranes before she died. Her family and

friends made the other 356 cranes.

(6) There is a statue of Sadako Sasaki in Hiroshima . The

Thousand Origami Cranes are a symbol of world peace.
