Ity Cycle WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY - fall 2012 - CRITIC: PHIL HOLDENC

City Cycle brings the bicycle to the streets of downtown St. Louis. The south west corner of 14th and Clark Ave situates the bike station in the center of commuter traffic from the gate-way multimodal hub which includes the metrolink to metro bus transfer as well as the greyhound/Amtrak Station. The primary program is bicycle storage however the bicycle shop gives the project a social space for bicycle enthusiast to show off and work on their bicycles. This allows a moment of pause in a transitory part of the city.

WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY - spring 2012 - CRITIC: ROBERT STUART SMITH MManis Cementum is a design exploration in cement materials and post-tensioned compressive arch systems. The process began with an investigation of general arch formations and joint connections between modules. The primary challenge was creating a singular module that would accomplish the double curvature of the final form. Significant research was put into the types of concrete mixtures to find one suitable for the compressive force and remaining workable enough to pour into the rubber molds during production.

rban housing WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY - fall 2010 - CRITIC: DON KOSTERU

This residential studio takes on the urban issue of a shrinking neighborhood a few blocks north of the busy St. Louis Central West End. There has been a collapse in the residential fabric and this project takes on the social, cultural, and private activities of daily life. Historical and contemporary investigations have been examined to understand the constantly changing definition of housing as well as understanding the unchanging nature of dwellings.

This study abroad semester in Buenos Aires explores the culture and urban fabric of the Latin-American city. The site is in the San Telmo neighborhood which is known for its tango history. The museum is a place to celebrate the past, present, and future of tango milango. The design of the building adopts local concrete building materials and construction techniques. Buenos Aires has developed a homog-enous city block layout making it difficult to distinguish one block from the next. This project offers the opportunity to break this repetitive nature with an open building to the public for individuals actively and casually interested in the dance.
