4.0 FIBER-OPTIC JUMPER CABLE MATERIAL/ COMPONENT REQUIREMENTS 4.1 All materials/ components used to manufacture Telect fiber-optic jumper cable need

to meet Telcordia Core GR326 Issue 4, and ROHS requirements. This includes but not limited to, fiber optic cable, connectors, zirconium ceramic ferrules, boots, and the epoxy used for securing fiber. All MT ferrule connector styles must adhere to the Telcordia GR-1435 spec and the IEC 61754-7. Telect Purchasing/ Engineering/Product Management require pre-approval for the use of any fiber optic material not meeting both GR326 and ROHS requirements unless otherwise noted on Telect specifications or drawings.

4.2 Any parameter not defined in this specification or on a Telect drawing that is

considered critical to the performance of fiber optic jumper patch cord quality needs to be addresses with Telect by the supplier prior to production.

NOTE: Fiber-optic cables will be identified per product code, serial number, mfg date, and location and traceable to test results and cable lot. 4.3 TELECT’S CONNECTOR COLOR CODING

Telect’s fiber connector color-coding is based on Telcordia GR-326 Issue 4.

4.4 FIBER-OPTIC CABLE COLOR –

Telect’s fiber-optic cable color-coding is based on Telcordia GR-326 Issue 4.

4.5 EPOXY QUALITY

The approved epoxy used for securing fiber into the ceramic ferrule is degassed Epo-Tec 353ND or equivalent. No bubbles or voids should occur in the epoxy

near the fiber weak points inside the ferrule. Check the connector for plunge capability prior to packaging; frozen connectors are not acceptable.

4.6 CRIMP QUALITY Cable jacket and Kevlar needs to be evenly distributed around connector to ensure performance is equal in all directions the cable may lie. Cable should be secured to the connector and be able to withstand a minimum of 5-lb. pull. Ref. Telecordia GR-326 specification.

4.7 JUMPER CABLE LENGTH TOLERANCE (mm)

Lengths ≤ 10000 + 100 / - 50 10000 < Length ≤ 50000 + 200 / - 100 Length > 50000 + 400 / - 100 For duplex cable, the difference in length between terminated fiber of the opposite side may not exceed 5 mm.

4.8 STORAGE OF MATERIALS/ COMPONENTS Materials and components used for manufacturing Telect fiber-optic jumper cables will be stored in a manner that prevents contamination or damage to product.

CABLE LABELING AND PACKAGING REQUIREMENTS

10.1 Packaging requirements are specified within the Bill of Material. Reference

Telect Workmanship Standard 802 for general packaging requirements.

10.2 CABLE JACKET PRINT (Generic)

10.2.1 Print quality to meet Telect Workmanship Standard 905 10.2.2 Cable jacket to be marked with the following information every meter

(Tolerance on length marking -0%/ +1%): a. Optical Cable (or similar wording) b. UL rating c. Fiber type: Example- (SM = Single mode)(Low water peak= 28E) d. Jacket Type (plenum, riser, halogen-free) (PA or PVC) e. Month/ Year of manufacture f. Meters g. Batch Number

Example below:

10.3 FIBER-OPTIC CABLE IDENTIFICATION LABEL REQUIREMENTS 10.3.1 Label to be Brady LAT-15-361 or similar in material and size. 10.3.2 Serial number printed on label = Purchase order and Sequence 0001 (Example: 5234110001). 10.3.3 Insertion Loss and Back reflection specification maximum (Example: IL<0.2 dB BR< -55 dB) Multimode has the maximum

insertion loss value. 10.3.4 Label to be placed 50 mm below the boot. (For Duplex Cables, Black

shrink tube the same size as the Brady label shall be placed on the opposite (second) fiber at the same distance as the Brady label for cable identification.)

10.3.5 Label to be secure but not impact fiber-optic performance.
