August, where has the year gone? Hello All, August is getting very busy. Committees are meeting and plans are being made to complete our 2019 calendar of events. With Spoonbread just around the corner, we should be well into finalizing our plans. David and Rebecca have been working with the Spoon-bread committee and if you are part of that committee and haven’t met with them, you need to be at the next session, at the Dinner Bell on Tuesday August 13
th. Since David
hasn’t been feeling 100%, he will need our help.
Spoonbread Festival Volunteers Needed
Check your email often for announcements. If you chair the committee that takes care of the state and local update, we definitely need to get that arranged for later in August, or the first of September. Call the office and see when that can be sched-uled and see if we can get the Acton Folk Center, for the event. Call the office and check and see when they need extra help, with sorting banners, getting signs out and checking all the supplies needed for Spoonbread. One last note: I will ask that everyone who has not paid their membership dues make it cur-rent, from January through August, please take the time to call the office and get that taken care of, due to the fact that this is part of our operational funding. We are all busy, but when we take on a responsibility, you feel much better when you follow through. Have a great rest of your August and hope to see you at the membership meeting on the 15
th at the Acton Folk Enter, sponsored by Park Community Credit Union. A great
big thanks to them and all of you who step up and take this on each month. Our next board meeting date and place will be sent out, from the office, so check your email. I hope all of you have been enjoying the cooler weather and break from the rain. Most vacationing time is almost over and now we need to focus on all of our other chamber events. Now is the time to come together and make the most of the rest of this year.
Sincerely,

My Road to Recovery
Many of you are aware of my health issues over the last two months. In mid June, I suffered a stroke that effected my optical nerve and I lost my vision for several days. While I was hospitalized, they found that I also was suffering from numerous seizures and hallucinations. All of this was complicated by my diabetes that was out of control.
During my hospital stay and recovery at home, I lost a lot of weight and strength, which forced me to slow down. Currently, I am trying to work back into my daily routine. I now take medicine for life for the seizures and have started insulin for the diabetes. The worst part is a strict diet and the loss of my drivers license for 90 days.
I now have a new appreciation for life, family and friends. I want to thank all of those who sent cards, called to check on me and Sandy, visited me in the hospital, brought food by the house, and provided financial assistance to help with my medical expenses, since I have no health insurance. Most of all I want to thank everyone for their prayers during this time and as I recover. Prayer works, I am proof of it!
I am far from 100% and with the Spoonbread Festival upon us, we need volunteers to help in the office during the next month as we pre-pare for the festival and then throughout the three day event we will need an army of volunteers to continue the success of the Spoon-bread Festival, our Signature Event.
Sincerely,
David
