Spring can be a stressful time for businesses, as tax season looms and Daylight Savings Time lurches ahead. As spring pro- gresses, businesses typically witness shifting workloads, boost- ed travel, and the ever-growing struggle to fill their job vacan- cies with qualified and motivated candidates. In the U.S., as well as in Berea, our businesses are adapting and growing their product and service goals to compete in an ever-changing economy. Berea is full of exciting news and innovations and thats something we take pride inwe call it - BErea PROUD! For example, you may be aware that Berea is the Arts & Crafts Capital of KY, but did you know we are a highly popular Adventure Tourism Destination as well? Berea is home to the Pinnacles and Brushy Fork Hiking Trails, scenic bike paths, kayaking at Owsley Fork, and the only Offi- cial Geocaching GeoTour in the State of KY. Also, were you aware that our own Berea College is host to a Nobel Prize on display for public view? How about that Novelis (in our industrial park) is the largest recycling industrial site in the world? Were you aware of the partnership that our own Hitachi-Berea has launched with Honda to develop technology and innovation that will compete with (and aim to surpass) the innovations of Tesla? How is our community adapting? Together….and quickly! Berea Community Schools has launched an initiative to engage our businesses and industries to provide input to the high school curriculum to address gaps identified for successful transition into the workforce. Madison County Schools is diligently working to locate a Technology Center Campus here in Berea (offering high-demand vocational, technical, and trade programs) that provide skilled labor and increased wage careers. Wow! Its a great time to be in Berea! In Chamber updates, your Berea Chamber was represented in Frankfort in February to personal- ly meet with legislators and Governor Beshear and discuss issues facing our state and our local area (a delegation of over 60 leaders from Madison County attended). Also, Chamber Commit- tees have begun organizing meetings (get involved), and new members are joining the Chamber each month. Sincerely, Jennifer Jennifer Napier, President Berea Chamber of Commerce
