ADVANTAGES, WHAT CHALLENGES?
Working in the cloud
What’s great about cloud services?
• You, your customer, project manager, translator, editor, reviewer, everyone! can
work from anywhere, any time, on any device, as long as there is internet connection
• The software and technology is always up-to-date, and you don’t have to worry about
installation or system upgrades
• It’s hugely scaleable, and you pay for what you use--no waste!
• Your operating environment (software and technology) is utility like electricity and
phone services--it’s no longer a capital investment
• AND many other businesses/industries are already cloud-based: translation is NOT
the early-adopter!
How to address the challenges of
moving to the cloud
Persuading the “owner” of existing tools to move from a datacenter or a desktop
environment:
• Demonstrate benefits of cloud services using documented cost-benefit
analysis (RoI) and case studies
Concerns about security and performance:
• Look for proven services with audited PCIA/HIPAA/SOC2 compliance
Outdated company IT mandates get in the way of moving to the cloud at the risk
of being left-behind
• Involve IT department in discussions as early as possible
Fear of the unknown--biggest challenge is often human:
• Plan for managment-of-change.
