AAT
Computer based project
• Working effectively in accounting and finance will be examined by a computer based project. The AAT will provide a computer based case study in two parts.
• Part 1 is two hours plus 15 minutes reading time
• Part 2 is two hours plus 15 minutes reading time
The syllabus will be split into three areas
• Area 1 – Role of the accounting department within an organisation, self management and working as part of a team (Assessed in part 1)
• Area 2 – Literacy and numeracy (Could appear in part 1 and part 2)
• Area 3 – Self analysis and development (Assessed in part 2)

• What do you think the difference between accounting and finance?
Let’s have a look at the basic accounting roles
List the following roles on a piece of paper
• 1) Sales order processing
• 2) Purchasing
• 3) Cashiering
• 3) Payroll
• 4) Costing
• 5) Inventory (stock) control
• You now have ten minutes to discuss in groups what you think each role involves and how you think it supports an organisation (business)
You may be asked to explain the role of accountancy or payroll and other financial
functions within the business
So let’s think about the following:• Don’t work in isolation – why not?• Provider of information – what type?• Types of information produced?• Types of information received?• These functions provide other departments
with information on the financial implications of their activities including the employment of staff
• Now let’s have a look at reporting lines on page 8….
