• To understand where Personal Learning Plan (PLP) fits within the SACE

•When is Work Experience?

• To understand the process and requirements of Work Experience

• To answer any questions you may have about your child’s Work Experience


The South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE)

The South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) is a qualification that demonstrates you have acquired a certain level of knowledge and skills important to your job, study and training goals.

You’ll be awarded the SACE if you successfully complete requirements that include a range of skills and subjects you may study at school or may have acquired through other education, training or experience.

The SACE Journey begins in Personal Learning Plan (PLP)

Key Dates

Work Experience will run from:

Monday 16 March – 20 March (Week 8 Term 1)

All students studying PLP must participate in Work Experience as part of the PLP course.

Students must return their Workplace Learning Agreement Form by the end of Week 5. Friday 28 February


Please note:

Student should ideally be the age of 15 when undertaking work experience. There is a box on the Work Experience form that students and parents can tick if a students is 14 years of age. The work placement (business/organisation) and the student completing Work Experience will need both parent/caregiver and Principal approval.

For those students who are 14 and are not participating in Work Experience, the PLP leader will arrange alternative learning tasks and program for Week 8.


How can my child find Work Experience• Students can participate in Work Experience anywhere a business or

work place accepts them.• Students can book an appointment with IPP Coordinator for support• Some students will have family members / friends who they can go to

on Work Experience.• Work Experience contacts list has been developed for students• Students should only work the same amount of hours as they would

normally be at school where possible. (This may mean changed starting and finishing times however: For example: 8.00am start, 2.30pm finish, 10.00am start, 4.00pm finish)


Work experience cont:

• Students must find their own way to and from the work place.

• APHS staff will visit every student on work experience during the 5 days

• All students will complete compulsory 5 hours of Work, Health and Safety to ensure they are aware of their rights and responsibilities while on Work Experience.


Useful facts about seeking work experience• Work experience is unpaid work to help them explore an industry they could see themselves working within the

future.• Areas that may not be possible: due to needing training such as a white card or having certificates such as a

Working With Children Check (WWCC) clearance to go on sites for work. If they get the clearance or do the training then they could do it. These areas include:• Carpentry – building sites- a carpenter may take them on• Electrician – white card possibly• Construction – white card definitely• Aged care - WWCC• Nursing - WWCC• Child care – WWCC• Primary schools, pre-schools and some kindergartens are now asking for a police clearance

• Many professional jobs may not take high school students as they do not have enough skills or training. • Work experience may be a good opportunity for students to find out what they see themselves doing in the future• Work experience could be for those who cannot get experience in the industry and could could lead in to part time

employment: eg small retail shop, café, newsagency?

• Students begin thinking of where they would like to complete Work Experience

• Students check to see if there are any clearances/requirements for completing Work Experience in their chosen workplace
