$100 Grand Celebration Week
The Holly Academy Education Foundation is proud to
announce that we have now raised $100,000 to continue
providing educational opportunities for Holly Academy
students. We invite you to stop inside the lobby and celebrate
with us each morning next week, April 17th through the 21st.
You can see a different grant recipient demonstration every
morning between 7:40am and 7:55am. We will wrap up this
exciting week with a light breakfast and initiative display for
our Holly Academy parents and generous donors on Friday,
April 21st from 7:45am-8:30am in the multi-purpose room.
We couldn’t have met this milestone without you!
Attention Holly Academy Students!
Just inside the front doors we’ve filled the glass display case with
more $100 Grand candy bars than you can count! Or can you?
Guess the amount and submit your entry to your homeroom
teacher by 3:15pm on Wednesday, April 19th. One entry per
student. Three prizes to be awarded Friday!
Crosswalk
We have a new crosswalk person! Barbara Bunker began after
spring break on Monday, April 10th. She is excited to be
helping our students and parents, and we are excited to have

Meet Our Staff
Mrs. Doherty got her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a focus on Early Childhood at
the University of Michigan. During college and prior to teaching at Holly Academy, she taught
preschool, latchkey, and was a guest teacher in a few districts. Since becoming a member of the Holly
Academy family when we opened in 1999, Jodi has taught a variety of grades and subjects. She
currently teaches Young 5 – 1st Computers and Spanish.
On a more personal note, Jodi is married to her husband, Joey. They have a 23 year old son Lil’ Joe
and daughter in law Alaina who are both seniors at U of M. In addition, their family includes a puppy
and a horse. In her free time, Jodi enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking, reading,
watching movies and going camping … sometimes even camping with our dog, horse, and friends, trail
riding!
Ms. Doyle has been working at Holly Academy for five years. She started her teaching career as a
seventh and eighth grade math teacher in Flint and transitioned to middle school ELA at Holly
Academy. She loves volleyball and coached at Holly Academy for four years. Softball was another
favorite sport of hers in high school. Her three younger siblings attend Fenton High School. She loves
her pets which are a lab/pit mix and two crazy cats. She owns a photography business, Tia Marie
Photography, LLC, and loves to scrapbook and read. Her favorite things in this world are her family,
her friends, and iced coffee drinks.
Ms. Short is a paraprofessional in Mrs. Foss’s kindergarten class this year. She also works in the
intervention department and spends part of her day working with students in first through third
grade. She loves waking up to go to work each day and is thankful to be at such an amazing
school! Ms. Short first came to Holly Academy as a parent. Her son, Ethan, is in seventh grade here at
Holly Academy. She’s proud of the person he has become and credits much of his success as a student
to the phenomenal teachers he has had over the years. Seeing our school from the perspective of a
parent and as a staff member has made her appreciate our special community even more. Ms. Short
is also the aunt to Natalie (4th grade), Noah (3rd grade), and Owen (K). She loves getting to see them
every day! Learning is Ms. Short's passion and she loves school! She is currently attending Oakland
University to complete a graduate degree in elementary education. She will start student teaching
next winter and will be endorsed in integrated science and language arts. When Ms. Short is not
studying, she loves spending time with family, camping, fiber arts, crafts, gardening, and being in
nature.
Dear Elementary Parents and Guardians ONLY:
One of the most important responsibilities of the school staff is to assign
students to classes for the next year. The goal of the student placement
policy is to design balanced classes, according to established criteria,
which create the optimal learning environment for all Holly Academy
students. Each classroom is a small community that must be
representative of the diverse social, academic, and physical needs and
abilities of all students. Our goal is to provide equitable opportunities for all
students in a balanced classroom environment while accommodating
their academic, emotional and social needs. Our staff members consider
all of the following points when placing each child:
a. Students in each classroom who have a positive influence on each
other in learning.
b. A balance in the number of boys and girls.
c. An equal distribution of children enrolled in special programs.
d. A need to keep classes approximately equal in size and stay within the
Holly Academy Board’s class size policy.
e. Parent input.
We invite you to give us specific information about the learning needs of
your child. You may wish to share information about your child’s
developmental needs – academic, social, emotional, physical.
The information will be considered in conjunction with school information
on each child and with the broader needs listed above to complete
student placements. This information will be shared with this year’s teacher
and his/her next year’s teacher.
Parent information on student placement should be submitted no later
than April 28, 2017. FORMS ARE AVAILABLE IN THE OFFICE ONLY!
