Blessing devotees with Vishnu Sahasranamam,

Srimad Bhagavat etc., Vittal darshan to Dixit, Gita Rahasya & Kaparde’s family.

********************************

Bathing in sea bestows all the benefits of bathing in various rivers as they all submerge in the sea. Similarly, bowing at Sri Guru’s feet bestows all the boons of worshiping various gods. Lets us all hear Baba’s stories and pray to Him to bless us.

Blessing sacred texts:

Some devotees want their daily reading sacred texts to be blessed by Baba. One day Kaka Mahajani brought Eknath’s Bhagwat to Baba’s durbar to be blessed by Baba. Baba got the book and after turning some pages gave it to Shama and asked him to keep it. Later, Kakaji brought another copy and got it blessed by Baba.

Shama & Vishnu Sahasranamam:

One day Baba decided to bless Shama by giving him a copy of Vishnu Sahasranamam. He tricked a Ramdasi staying in the masjid, who had a copy of this text, to go to the market to get Him

S r i S a i S a t c h a r i t a i n o u r d a i l y l i f e - S a n k a r K u m a r

some medicine for stomach ache. After the Ramdasi left, Baba took his sahasranamam copy and gave it to Shama. Shama refused to accept knowing the short tempered nature of the Ramdasi but Baba insisted on Shama to keep it and read daily one nama as it would be very beneficial to him. When the Ramdasi returned he came to know about this and got enraged and prepared to fight with Shama, Baba called him and advised him against getting angry and explained that He only gave the book to Shama. In return, Shama agreed to give a copy of Pancharatni Gita. Thus the fight came to an end and later, Shama became very proficient in that text so as to explain the meaning to even more educated souls.

Vittal Darshan:

We have already seen Baba’s leela of blessing Kakasaheb Dixit with Vittal darshan in chapter 4, earlier.

Gita Rahasya:

Baba gave Bapu Saheb Jog a copy of Gita Rahasya, written by Tilak and asked him to read it daily for more benefits.

Kaparde Family:

A learned gentleman knows as Dada Saheb Kaparde came with his family and stayed at Shirdi for a few months. He will just sit quietly in front of Baba. Everyday, his wife would bring lunch for Baba and insist on Him to eat it all. Baba wanted to show her greatness to others and would wait for her to bring food and would eat them

Saiamrutham — “For seeing brahman (realizing the self) one has to give five things, (i.e. surrender five

things) (1) five pranas (vital forces), (2) five senses (five of action and five of perception), (3) mind, (4) intellect

and (5) ego. This path of brahma-jnana of self-realization is ‘as hard as to tread on the edge of a razor. ”

eagerly. When Shama questioned Baba on this favoritism shown by Baba to her, Sai explained that she has been related to Him from several births and hence His show of love for her. After lunch, she would press Baba’s feet affectionately and Baba also would press her hands softly. He also gave her a mantra diksha and asked her to chant ‘Rajarama’ daily. This may look odd to others but this is called ‘Sakti-Path’ where the Guru transfers His power to His disciple. Others should not doubt or question the motive in this, as Guru and Sishya are one and the same.

***************************** BOW TO SRI SAI

PEACE BE TO ALL!!

LIFE APPLICATIONS

**********************

Listening to Sai stories would bring happiness in daily life.

Sacred texts when blessed by one’s Guru, would bring more benefits.

Reading at least one name from Vishnu Sahasranama is very beneficial.

Never doubt a Guru—Sishya relationship.

Guru’s motives are

unfathomable.

OF CROWS AND OWLS ******************************* Once upon a time, all the birds in a far away jungle decided to meet and discuss a matter of importance. They needed to select a new King, as they all felt that Garuda, the present King was not doing a very good job of being a King. They all accused him of serving his master all the time and not taking enough care and time to be their king and settle their disputes. So, on that day, all the birds viz. swans, peacocks, cranes, doves, sparrows and all other birds had congregated and they noticed that the crows were not there. They decided not to wait anymore and proceeded to elect a new King. They all looked at each other and noticed each other's strengths and weakness. They all felt that the Owl should be their next King, because he had an impressive feature, calm and most importantly he could see during the night time, while the other birds could not. On the day of Coronation, a beautiful procession was planned with lot of fanfare and the Owl was about to be crowned. Then a crow flew out of nowhere and enquired about the proceedings. When he knew that an Owl was about to be crowned, he could not agree to it. He asked the birds, "Why would you crown the Owl, when you have the Garuda a Majestic one as your King?. Mere mention of his name is enough to scare away our enemies. Look at the Owl, he is angry looking even when he is calm, Can you look

at him when he is really angry? Also, he is blind during the day and he cannot do justice during the day. Listening to this, all the birds started to doubt their decision and slowly left the place. The Owl and his wife were left bewildered. The crow then explained to them what had happened and they were very angry that because of the crow, they lost the chance of being King and queen. They then said to the crow that from that time on, Crows and Owls would be sworn enemies. Now, the crow was very sad. He chided himself for opening his mouth where it was not needed and it was heartbroken that he made the mighty Owls become sworn enemies of their entire clan.

MORAL OF THE STORY **************************

It is not necessary to counsel where it is not needed and it will only bring trouble to all concerned.

HOW TO CULTIVATE BHAKTHI - PART 8

**********************************************************

In Bhagavad Geetha, Sri Krishna said, “Among the months, I am the Margazhi”. We are in the middle of this auspicious month, in which we have the opportunity to think about the Divine and the Divine only. This is such a special month, where we recite Thiruvempavai for Lord Shiva and Thiruppavai for Lord Vishnu. In the pretense of waking the Gods, we try to wake ourselves up from our sleep of ignorance and try to think of Him, at least temporarily.

I love Andaal Nachchiyaar, who gave us the essense of all vedhas in Her simple but beautiful Poetry. I really wanted to write about Her for this issue regardless. By God’s grace, it just happened such that She is also our prime guide for the next and last mode of Bhakthi, Atma Nivedhana.

Atma Nivedhana is nothing but complete self surrender to God. This is the way Andaal shows us in Her Pasurams. Not only that, She was a living example of such surrender. She believed only in Him, nothing else mattered to Her. She saw Krishna everywhere. She said she would not marry a mortal. She knew that She truly belonged to Her Narayana. Through Thiruppavai songs, all She sought was complete surrender to Narayana.

She shows us how to get there as well. She said we must wake up from our sleep (ignorance). We need to purify our hearts. How do we do that? We must renounce our indulgence in tasty food, nice clothes, beautiful jewelry, etc. We must not gossip about others. We must only think of Him with pure heart. Once we surrender to Him completely, we will be able to get His grace. After which, we will celebrate it by wearing nice clothes, jewelry, and enjoy delicious food together. We will pray to Him that we should never ever forget Him, however many births we may have to take.

A true Bhaktha, a true devotee, will not ask God for this and that. Instead, He will love Him only for the sake of love and nothing else.

Wish you all a blessed New Year! Let us wake up and seek His Grace! God bless!

Dear God,

With the grace of my previous birth, My mind has begun to look up to YOU, I am afraid, that

this pride as i learn more about YOU!!

Will create a veil of ignorance, to falsify, the litte knowledge that i have gained, that does not

even begin to dignify!!

The magnanimity yet simplicity, of the Universe that YOU define!!

Help me to be ever humble, As i learn to speak volumes in your praise, help me to use words

effectively as i try to describe your grace!!

Help me to really understand the depth of YOUR omnipresence, help me in every which way,

so that i can grow, and learn to live by YOUR ways!!

YOU are far yet very near,

YOU are just about everywhere,

YOU are I,

I am YOU,

When will i begin to feel this feeling which is the absolute Truth!!
