Abstract: This collection contains the personal letters of Warren C. Lane, Jr. ("Bud")between 1934 and 1961. In these letters, Lane describes his academic career at bothPhillips Exeter Academy and Harvard College, as well as his travels abroad while servingin the U.S. navy. Also contained in the collection is a collection of naval newspapers,entitled The Dope, which was created by the men aboard the ship, LSI 1046. There isalso a miscellaneous series within the collection that contains records. Lane's schoolmarks at Exeter Academy, and letters from members of his extended family.

Warren C. Lane Jr. was a prominent lawyer in Worcester during the second half of the20̂ ^ century. He was bom in Providence, Rhode Island, on August 9,1923 to Warren C.Lane Sr. and Pauline Lane. He received his education through the Leicester publicschools, Phillips Exeter Academy, Harvard College, and Harvard Law School. Aftergraduating from Harvard College, Lane joined the United States Naval Reserve in 1944,and served in the Pacific between Febmary 1945 and April 1946 as a Lieutenant J.G.aboard the LST 1046. Between 1949 and 1951, Lane was associated with the law firm ofHartwell & Driscoll. In 1951, Lane married Cynthia Rugg, with whom he had threechildren. Since 1951, he has been associated with the law firm of Bowditch, Gowetz, &Lane. Between 1953 and 1955, Lane served as Assistant District Attorney for WorcesterCounty. Lane is one of the founders of the Intemational Center of Worcester, which wasestablished in 1963. Lane has been very involved in the Worcester community, serving asa trustee for institutions such as Worcester Academy, Shepherd Knapp School, and theConsumer Savings Bank. He has also served as director of numerous businesscorporations, the American Red Cross, the Legal Aid Society of Worcester, and the CivicMusic Association. Lane currently resides in Worcester.

Scope and Content

This collection contains personal letters to and from Warren ("Bud") Lane Jr. between1930 and 1961. Many of these letters contain newspaper clippings or photographs ofLane or his family and friends. The collection also contains a number of navalnewspapers entitled The Dope (May 1945-April 1946) that was created by the crewaboard the LST 1046 in the Pacific, and to which Lane served as the technical advisor.
