The Problem
Wood-boring insect attack can causestructural damage in buildings and isunsightly. There are a number ofwood-boring insects that attack timberin properties in the U.K.
Woodworm is a description commonlyand loosely applied to all wood-boringbeetles.
The life cycle of the wood-boringbeetle is normally always nearcompletion before most propertyowners are even aware they have aproblem. After mating the femalebeetle will lay her eggs into cracks andon the rough surfaces of the structuraltimbers, which will then hatch andbegin tunnelling into the timber.
The number of eggs and larval stageof the beetle will vary according to thespecies. Larvae will pupate and afterseveral weeks the adult beetles willdevelop and commence boring theirway out of the timber to mate.
Having mated the female beetle willagain lay her eggs on the timber andthe life cycle starts again.
The Solution
Timberwise have over three decadesof experience in the treatment of theseinsect pests. Our fully trained andexperienced surveyors will correctlydetermine whether treatment isnecessary in the first place. Thewrong identification of the insect canoften lead to costly and unnecessarysolutions.
Our Surveyors will identify:-
• The type of insect and extentof the infestation
• Whether the infestation isactive or inactive
• How much structural damage,if any, has occurred.
Following Inspection
We shall draw up the correctspecification for the elimination of theinfestation, and state any specialrequirements for difficult pests eg.Death Watch Beetle or HouseLonghorn.
