Students base their work on the Elements of Art as they would do as a professional artist.
Element of Shape
• Shapes are used to create images. Here they use shape as positive and negative space.
Element of Form
• Students create form in a variety of ways. Here they use clay to make a three dimensional mask.
Crayon Resist
• Crayon Resist uses crayons for texture and then water color paint is used to add a layer of color
ClayThe entire school will
enjoy the clay project we will create now that we have a kiln. A slab roller will be a nice addition to our clay program.
Colored Pencil
• We use a variety of tools in the art room to create our masterpieces. Colored pencil is one of them.
Right Now in Art Class
• Students are creating unique masks through hand build techniques.
• Here a student has taken a slab of clay and is beginning to design her project.
Mission Statement
• We visit the media center to find books and other materials that will help us improve our reading skills, gain knowledge, and have fun.
• When we are in the media center, we should be good listeners, follow the rules, and show respect to the people and resources.
Information Skills Curriculum
• The activities and lessons that I plan for the students are aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study Information Skills Curriculum.

Destiny
• The Iredell-Statesville Schools recently purchased the computer program Destiny for the school media centers. This new program is web-based and there will soon be a link on the district web page. Teachers, students, and parents will be able to use the Destiny Library Search from home.
• Destiny uses the students NC Wise Number for book checkout.
Strategic Goals for the Media Center
• Students will become information literate.• Students will develop the ability to locate
information as well as evaluate the usefulness of the sources.
• Students will recognize information in a variety of formats such as (print, graphical, audio, video, multimedia, electronic and web-based.)
• Students will participate in a variety of reading experiences.
Research Strategies
In today’s world of information, it is important that students have strong research skills. In the media center, we use The Big 6 research model.

encyclopedias, atlases, magazines, websites, and a variety of research tools.

Reading ProgramsElementary Battle of
the Books• A reading competition
that is open to 4th and 5th grade students that might like to try out for the team.

Accelerated Reader Program• Accelerated Reader is a computer
program that allows students to take tests on books they have read and earn points.

Annual Book Fairs
The PTO sponsors a fall and spring book fair. These two events provide the much-needed funds for books and materials that support the operation of our media center.
Thank you for your support of our yearly book fairs.
The fall book fair is going on through this Friday at noon.

Mission Statement• Technology class helps us to learn how to
use computers every day in lots of ways.• Our goal is to have fun and learn to be
safe with computers . • By fifth grade we will be able to use Word
Processing, Multimedia, Databases, Spreadsheets, and the Internet better than our parents.

• 1 classroom set of Dell Latitude D510 laptops
• 1 lab for checkout use of IBM Thinkpad r52s.
• Most classrooms have 2 student IBM PCs
• Media Projectors and Laptops available for checkout to teachers.

• Technology Instructor for all 6 grades
• Maintain all computers (200) and printers (60) at WHES (work orders and routing maintenance)
