PBIS December Update

Winter Gear Recess Expectations

Now that it is December and snow is inevitable, winter gear is necessary in order for the students to enjoy their outdoor recess time. Students must have snow pants and boots to play anywhere at recess, including the field, playground and blacktop. If students only have boots, but no snow pants they must stay on the blacktop to play. If students have neither snow pants or boots they have to stay on the sidewalk for the entirety of the recess. These rules not only keep students safe, but also dry and warm! We appreciate your help in having your students dressed appropriately so they can enjoy their recess to the fullest!

A Community ChristmasA Community Christmas

Happy Holidays Woodland Families,  There are several holidays approaching in the             next few months, and it is unbelievable how               quickly their seasons approach us. For many of the                 Woodland Families, we are lucky to have our basic needs met                     with clothing, food, and shelter. During this holiday season,                 we would like to support those who are struggling with                   having food to eat. Woodland is proud to support                 “Community Christmas”

Community Christmas is a one-day event that brings people from different backgrounds together to share a Christmas meal and celebrate the holiday. The Community Christmas Committee is a group of dedicated civic, business and non-profit leaders from around the Fox Valley. For many, this will be the only hot meal they receive for the holiday, and for many of the children in attendance, the single gift given by Santa will be the only one they receive. The Community Christmas Committee includes representatives from: Culver’s of Darboy and Little Chute, B.A.B.E.S.,Community Clothes Closet, Feeding America, Fox Communities Credit Union, Fox Valley Metro, Kohl’s, Menasha Police Department, Old Glory Honor Flight, the Women’s Fund for the Fox Valley Region and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.

School-Based Counseling for

Students in 5K – 12th Grade

The Kimberly Area School District and United Way’s PATH (Providing Access to

Healing) for Students program are working together to provide students in the

District with the opportunity to receive outpatient mental health services within

their school.

New for this school year: • Opportunity for school-based counseling services expanded

to students in 5-year-old kindergarten through 12th grade.

(Previously only available for grades 7-12.)

• These services are designed to meet the needs of students and families

who would otherwise be unable to access mental health therapy.

Counseling is an excellent way to: • Learn new skills

• Develop self-confidence

• Become more aware of others’ views and

experiences

• Practice new behaviors

• Better understand how to deal with the problems life presents

If you are a parent and think your child may benefit, or if you are a student and

feel you may benefit from counseling, you are invited to contact your school

counselor for further screening.

If you have any questions about mental health resources for students, you can

also contact Tim Fosshage, Director of Pupil Services, at (920) 788-7900.

When to Keep Your Child Home

Children should be kept home from school when they don’t feel well. It is important to get the rest they need to

recover, and to prevent the spread of germs to other children and the staff. If you are unsure of when to keep your

child home, please contact the school nurse or your family medical provider.

The following symptoms may suggest a communicable disease. Children who have the following symptoms should

be kept home from school until a doctor has seen them, they no longer have symptoms indicating a communicable

disease or they have received treatment for at least 24 hours for certain diseases.

SORE THROAT

An oral temperature of 100.4 or higher indicates a fever. If your child has a temp of 100.4 or higher at school he/she will be sent home. Your child must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of a fever reducer (Tylenol or Ibuprofen product) before he/she returns to school.

If a fever is accompanied by a sore throat, stomach ache or head ache it may be strep throat. Strep throat is diagnosed by a throat culture obtained at a medical clinic. If your child is diagnosed with strep throat, your child must be on appropriate antibiotics for 24 hours and fever free for 24 hours without the use of a fever reducer (Tylenol or Ibuprofen product) before he/she returns to school.

If your child has an episode of vomiting and diarrhea at school, he/she will be sent home. Anyone with these symptoms should stay home until symptoms are absent for 24 hours.

A cough may be a sign of many different illnesses. If a cough is accompanied by a fever, sore throat, body aches or any other symptoms you should keep your child home. Any cough that lasts for more than several days should be discussed with a doctor.

Rashes and infected sores needed to be diagnosed by a medical provider. Many skin rashes such as impetigo, scabies, chicken pox, Fifth disease or Hand Foot and Mouth disease are very contagious. Students may return to school once the rash has been diagnosed and treated for 24 hours or cleared by a doctor. Open sores from illnesses such as chicken pox and impetigo may need to be covered at school with bandages for several days.

Symptoms that prevent the student from active participation is usual school activities OR student is requiring more care than school that can safely provide.
