Spring is finally here! It seems to have taken forever to arrive. When I look at
my calendar, it looks like it will be gone before we know it. In the blink of an
eye, summer will be here. Now is the time to prepare.
This has been a record year for the Central Wisconsin Shooting Sports program.
Spring and summer are high time for tournaments around the state.
Tournaments offer great competition and they are the place where friendships
are born and grow. More information on Wisconsin’s 4-H shooting sports
tournaments can be found at: https://fyi.uwex.edu/wi4hshootingsports/.
Cloverbud Camp is a special opportunity for our youngest 4-H’ers in grades K-2.
This summer’s camp will be held at the Vesper Recreational Center on June
20th. Look inside for registration details.
Clothing Revue has undergone some exciting changes for 2018. This year youth
can participate in the new “Buy and Show” class in addition to the more
traditional garment-sewing classes. In the no-sew “Buy and Show” class,
participants show a completely purchased outfit to be judged on fit,
accessories, cost, and wardrobe compatibility. This pre-fair event is open to
youth of all ages in 4-H, Scouts, and other youth organizations and will be held
on Thursday, June 21st.
Area Animal Science Days will be held in Neillsville on June 22nd. Check it out if
you are in Dairy, Beef, Rabbit, Sheep, or Swine projects.
Finally, Farm Technology Days will be held in Marshfield July 10-12. Wood
County 4-H needs volunteers to help with hands-on activities in our Future
Generations booth. If you would like more information, please email
Now get out and enjoy Wisconsin springtime!

Define your goals for this year on the Project Story. Knowing your goals will help you achieve
them. Write those goals down now, during the project year, not after.
Think about some of the activities that you’ve participated in with 4-H so far. Write down some
of your thoughts on the experience on the Activity Reflection Form.
All of these forms can be found on the Wood County 4-H website: https://wood.uwex.edu/4-h-youth-

volunteer t-shirt to wear during their shift. Please contact [email protected] for the volunteer form.

CENTRAL WISCONSIN STATE FAIR DATES The 2018 Central Wisconsin State Fair dates are Tuesday, August 21—Sunday, August 26. These dates
are a week earlier than past years, so all dates leading up to the fair have also been adjusted. Please

July/August newsletter and on our website.
June 1—July 16: Fair Registration
Registration will be online through Fair Entry and must be completed by midnight on Monday, July
16th.
Sunday, August 19; 6:00—10:00p.m.: Fairgrounds Clean-up
Members, leaders and families are asked to help clean the Junior Fair exhibition buildings and animal
barns. Booth set-up will be allowed only AFTER the clean-up is complete.
Monday, August 20: Booth Set-up and Exhibit Check-in
Buildings open at 7:00a.m. for booth set-up. Refer to the fair book for specific project check-in times.
2018 CENTRAL WISCONSIN STATE JUNIOR FAIR REGISTRATION We will once again be using Fair Entry to complete fair registration this year. Online registration will begin
on June 1st.
The fair book will be posted online at: https://wood.uwex.edu/4-h-youth-development/central-wi-state-jr-
fair/ once it is ready. Additionally, a Registration Help Guide will also be posted on the Wood County 4-H
website. We recommend that you read through this guide before completing your registration, as there
are some new features this year:
There were a number of issues last year with submitting individual entries before all family
entries were completed. This process has been improved, and it is now easier to register all
individual exhibitors before completing the family submission.
There is also a new multi-entry process to save time when registering for multiple lots in the
same class. This will streamline the registration for exhibitors entering multiple projects in the
same class.
If you are participating in the Market Sale for Swine, please be sure to follow the instructions
provided at the Market Sale educational meetings so you enter your animals correctly.
Incorrect submissions will be returned to be corrected.
More details will be included in the next newsletter, and will also be available online. If you have any
questions before or during registration, contact us at 715-421-8439.
