CSP Technology
CSP is a state-of-the-art electricity generation
technology that converts solar energy into
usable heat and electricity
A CSP plant is similar to a conventional
power plant station where the fossil fuel hasbeen replaced with the energy from the Sun

Types of CSP Technology
The Parabolic Trough is the
most mature among all CSPtechnologies: 90% of
operating plants and 70% of
plants in the planning and
construction phase.

Why CSP in PRC: Benefits?
Electricity consumption growth 2007-50
Ratio of renewable generation of electricity
Diversification of energy
mix: climate change andenergy security
Non-fossil contribution
to primary energy supply
to 20% by 2020 compared
to 8.3% in 2010

Why CSP in PRC: Benefits?
Reliable energy supply: when needed
- any time of the day and night.
Greater grid flexibility: enabling
greater penetration of other
intermittent RE power
Greater socio-economic benefits
About 40% of the plant value chaincan be generated locally from the first
project on
After CSP market is established,
equipment can be obtained from local
industry.
CSP shows greater job creationpotential than other RE technologies Source:IEA

CSP in PRC: Potential ?
Abundant solar resources mainly
in western provinces - 15% of
total electricity production from
CSP in 2040
The Government targets 3 GWsolar thermal power
development by 2020
Unified Tariff: CNY 1.00 /kWh

Conclusion
CSP will become new alternative drivers for sustainable development
along with other renewable energy resources.
The PRC has great potential to become a key player in the global CSP
market
The first generation CSP demonstration projects in PRC: Lessonslearned from these demonstration projects will provide valuable
insights into the selection of the most appropriate technology
composition and the establishment of the appropriate tariff for CSP
in the PRCs context.
The successful completion of the first generation demonstration
plant will make the significant impacts not only for the PRC but also
the global CSP market as was the case in the global solar PV and
wind power markets.
