From the Principal Our school community is getting very excited about the upcoming Mini
Mudda! Don’t forget that we need everyone who can be available to help out
on the day, even if you can only spare an hour. Online registrations for the Mini
Mudda have closed, but children can still register at the office or in the gym on
the day. We are close to the 200 mark for entries, and the weather bureau has
promised us perfect conditions for the day.
Don’t forget that the Bass Coast Children’s Expo will also be running at our
school alongside the Mini Mudda. There will be lots of activities for children of
all ages, along with a Drumming Performance and Workshops.
Thank you to everyone who has returned their Raffle Tickets. Could families
please return all sold and unsold tickets tomorrow.
The Whole School Photo will be taken on Friday morning, 9am sharp. Could we
please ask that all students arrive promptly at school at 8:50am, so that we can
assemble all students ready for the photo. Breakfast Club will be running again
tomorrow morning with students needing to arrive promptly to ensure that they
don’t miss the whole school photo.
Thank you to Katrina Plummer and all of the families that supported our Book
Fair. We sold a total of $1900 worth of books, resulting in the school receiving a
credit of $700 to spend on books for our school community. We look forward to
the new books arriving soon.
It was wonderful to celebrate Victorian Premiers Reading Challenge at
assembly this week with students receiving certificates from the Premier in
recognition of their efforts. Picture Page 2.
Yesterday two of our students competed at the State
Primary School Athletics Championships. Vu finished
second in the 80 metre hurdles and seventh in the
discus. April finished fourth in high jump, jumping a 10
cm PB. Congratulations girls.
Best of luck to our Softball Teams tomorrow as they head off site to the District
Softball event. We really appreciate our staff’s support of this fantastic extra
curricular event.
A reminder to families that this coming Monday (31st October) is a Student Free
Day. Staff will be meeting and working together to develop our Schools Vision
Statement. This statement will be composed to best reflect what we do, how
we do it and what are the things that makes our school special.
Also, don’t forget that the school will be closed for students and staff this
coming Tuesday (1st November) for Melbourne Cup Day. We are keeping our
ears close to the ground for any hot tips!

MUSIC NEWS Congratulations to the Billson Street Singers who performed with excellence at the Bass Coast
Special School on Monday. We sang five songs, introduced by five members of the group, with
harmonies and parts sounding wonderful! Big thanks to the support staff; the extended Leversha
family, Dakota and Kyra’s Nanna Maureen, Ms Chapman and Toko.
This week we have been focusing on learning new marimba tunes and combining them with songs. The engagement
level of our students is very high, with skills improving each week when playing accurately and with rhythm.
Grade Sixes have begun Graduation practise, and Grade Five student leaders have shown competence and
enthusiasm.
Instrument borrowing remains popular each Wednesday after school. It’s impressive how many families take instruments
home, returning them on Monday mornings in perfect working order. Well done!

IN SPORT Junior School Water Safety Program (JSWSP)
Wonthaggi Primary School will be starting its Junior School Water Safety Program on Friday 11th
November at the YMCA Wonthaggi. The program aims to introduce the various aspects
associated with being safe in a pool setting as well as building student confidence through
enjoyment. The JSWSP is for students in Grade Prep and One.
Teachers will take an active role in this program but to ensure it is successful we need parents and friends of our school
who are willing to get in the pool as well (no swimming experience is necessary). Please see me if you are available or
know of someone who might be. A current Working with Children's Check is required and must be sighted by the office.
CORRECTION: Unfortunately the incorrect swimming times were put in the JSWSP permission notice sent
home to Grade Prep and One students this week. Please note the following correct times:
Grade One: Leave WPS at 12.00pm. Swim 12.30pm – 1.00pm. Return to school 1.30pm
Grade Prep: Leave WPS at 12.15pm. Swim 1.00pm – 1.30pm. Return to school 2.00pm
Division Basketball
Our Grade 6 girls team took part in Division Basketball on Thursday 20th October at Leongatha Splash. Our
team of Alicia, Jas, Tess, Catherine, Cloe, Zoe and Vu worked exceptionally hard throughout Term 3 and 4 to
develop the team work, skills and tactics which enabled them to play a high standard of basketball. This
could not have happened without the help from coach Wendy Allen. The team were defeated by Loch
47-33 and Foster 30-28, but the experiences gained will place our school in better shape next time.
Well done.
State Athletics
Congratulations to April (11 year girls high jump) and Vu (11 years discus and 80m hurdles) who took
part in the State Athletics Championships, held on Monday 24th October, at Lakeside Stadium
Melbourne. The girls were winners from the Regional Athletics Carnival held earlier this term in
Newborough. April came 4th in Victoria in High Jump and Vu came 2nd in Victoria in 80m Hurdles
and 7th in Victoria in Discus. These results are incredible and both girls should feel very proud of
themselves!
Grade 3/4 Bike Ed Grade 3/4 students will take part in a Bike Ed Program, within the school grounds, for the next 3 Fridays
from 9:00am - 11:00am. Students will use the 2 hour block to experience Bike Ed Challenge activities on
the school’s basketball court, undertake Health Education and participate in Minor Games.
•28th October
•4th November
•11th November Grade 3/4 students will need to bring a road worthy bike and helmet to school on these days. A limited supply of bikes
and helmets are available for students to borrow. Priority for these bikes will be given to students/parents who have
completed the Bike Ed form and asked to borrow a bike.
