Wonderful memories in OMC Joon Young Park 4 th grade student College of Medicine Catholic University of Korea I believe that OMC was the best choice I have ever made. In my college, we have to choose the elective course for 6 weeks when we start the last grade, and OMC is one of the friendship school of our school. But I have no idea not only about the course but also about the school at that time. So I asked to Mr. Kang who is my senior, because he was the exchange student of OMC in last year. He strongly recommended me to go to OMC with some information along with this program. It sounds interesting than any other choice, so I decided. All aspects are interesting but the most is Japanese food.

I believe that OMC was the best choice I have ever made. In my college, we have to choose the

elective course for 6 weeks when we start the last grade, and OMC is one of the friendship school

of our school. But I have no idea not only about the course but also about the school at that time.

So I asked to Mr. Kang who is my senior, because he was the exchange student of OMC in last

year. He strongly recommended me to go to OMC with some information along with this program.

It sounds interesting than any other choice, so I decided. All aspects are interesting but the most

is Japanese food.

I had traveled Japan about three times before, including Osaka, because I really love to know

about Japanese cultures, foods, and life, etc. I love Japanese foods, especially ‘Ra-men’. In Korea,

there are also lots of instant Ra-mens but it tastes very different from Japan. So in this time I

visited many restaurants in this area to have a Ramen. Also I love the most of Japanese foods &

drinks, I have a nice time with OMC students. For example we had Takoyaki party, as known as

Tako-Pa in Japanese, we enjoyed to cook Takoyaki and eat together. It was really exciting

experience, so maybe I should buy a plate for cooking Takoyaki when I go back to Korea. We also

enjoyed lots of restaurants together, such as Fugu, Syojin Ryori. Thanks to the OMC friends, we

could went to the old temples, shrines, and museums. They explained us about the history of

Japan, and stories related with. It was very interesting.

Nakayama Center in OMC readily supports us in all aspects, so we don’t feel any discomfort

during the time in Japan. We are welcomed and provided a comfortable place nearby the hospital.

Also during the rotation, we could prepare well because Ms. Matsumoto, who takes charge of the

exchange students, she send lots of information about the rotation before we go there, so we

could prepare well beforehand. Also we were able to have some good chances to experience

Japanese culture closely, such as ‘Kimono wearing’.

In the hospital, we rotated every other departments in every other days. So we could experience

various of departments of hospital, even includes some local centers like Mishima Critical care

center. It was surprising because I have never seen this kind of care system in Korea. There is

good cooperation system with the fire station equipped with well-designed-ambulance. So if the

patients in severe situation, they can dispatch very quickly and effectively. Also in the center, they

have so many doctors with different majors related with critical care of patients, and there is a big

room for the critical patient, so they easily apply and treat the patient all in the same time. It was

kind of all-in-one team. Maybe it costs a lot, but it should be helpful for acute patients care. And

we had a chance to take a doctor helicopter.

Also I have a chance to go to several departments of OMC. What I felt so impressive and

influenced was the department of pediatric orthopedics. At that time I went to outpatient clinic, it

was different from Korea. Doctor has enough time to see patient, so he explains kindly about

patient’s condition. And patients are all children, so he draw a character of popular comics to all

of his patient. I learn what is a good relationship between doctor and patient from that outpatient

clinic.

As time goes fast, now I’m back to normal. But I can’t forget this memory and I believe that this

experience could help me in some way in the future. Making a good relationship with OMC

people was the most valuable thing to me, so it should be good for my future life as a doctor. I

would like to interact in worldwide with my friends who are doctors, it should be grateful. So I

hope to have these wonderful memories forever, and hope to see all of OMC friends again. Also I

would like to appreciate to all the people those who are related with this program, especially for

giving great chance to experience the Japan. Thank you.
