Background

What is it:

• The Wonderbag is a non-electric, heat-retention cooker that allows food that has been brought to a boil on a stove or fire, to

continue cooking for hours after it has been removed from the direct fuel source.

• An ancient cooking technique reinvented to solve a modern day problem.

How does it work:

• The Wonderbag’s heat retention properties the retains the heat to allow the food to continue cooking without the use of

additional cooking fuel.

• Each Wonderbag comes with a recipe book containing instructions.

• Bring your food to the boil, place in the bag, leave for the recommended time open to serve.

Target Market • The need to fee a family in low income households has huge challenges; staple diets require long cooking times and

there is limited access to energy or water.

– Charcoal or tree-wood is used for cooking

– Resulting in smoke inhalation and burns

– Deforestation as communities consume the trees around them

– Leading to soil erosion and polluted drinking water

– Collecting wood is done by women and girls who are often taken out of schools for this task

– Travellelling as far as 5-10kms per day to collect leaves women prone to violence

• This vicious cycle of poverty will not end if girls don’t have time for school. Women spend 3-5 hours of their day cooking and

the environment is ravaged in the process.

• High income households – Going green is becoming topical, everyone is doing their bit for the environment, compounded

with the convenience of being able to leave the meal cooking while out of the house.
