Anne B. Kerr, Ph.D.College President

Since her appointment as Florida Southern College’s seventeenth president in 2004, Dr. Anne Kerr’s visionary leadership has enhanced the student experience on campus and increased the college’s national prominence. Under her direction, the institution has renewed its commitment to educate the whole

person—academically, socially, spiritually and physically—in order to insure that students leave prepared to make a positive and consequential impact on our world.

Early in her tenure, Dr. Kerr oversaw implementation of a comprehensive strategic plan for the College that was designed to enrich all facets of our student-centered culture. Opportunities for active learning and leadership were increased; innovative, engaged, and personalized instruction were prioritized; and the College’s scholar-athlete program became a national model for NCAA Division II athletic programs.

Recent college improvements include ongoing restoration projects on the Frank Lloyd Wright campus and the construction of a Frank Lloyd Wright Usonian House for use as a Tourism and Education Center, which will be the first Wright design built since 1966. Other new construction includes the two-building Barnett Residential Complex and the

Christoverson Humanities Building (all three designed by world-renowned architect Robert A.M. Stern), the McKay Archives Center, the Blanton Nursing Building, the Rinker Technology Center, and TûTû’s Café (located in the Roux Library). Further improvements include the complete renovation of the student dining facility (Wynee’s Bistro), residence hall and campus-wide technology upgrades, and a campus beautification project featuring dozens of interconnected plazas and gardens.

Dr. Kerr graduated from Mercer University and received her M.S. and Ph.D. from Florida State University. Prior to assuming the Presidency at Florida Southern, she served as Vice President for Advancement both at the University of Richmond and at Rollins College. She has held numerous volunteer leadership roles, and currently serves on the boards of SunTrust Bank, All Saints’ Academy, EarthLinked Technologies, Inc., the Polk Museum of Art, and the Florida Chamber of Commerce. She recently completed a two-year term as president of the Sunshine State Athletic Conference.

Dr. Kerr and her husband, Roy, have a seventeen-year-old son, Ed, who plays baseball for All Saints’ Academy. Dr. Roy Kerr is a retired professor of Spanish and a baseball historian, whose recent publications include The Loving of the Game: a Baseball Memoir (2007); Sliding Billy Hamilton: the Life and Times of Baseball’s First Great Leadoff Man (2010), and Roger Connor: Home Run King of Nineteenth-Century Baseball (2011).

Pete MeyerAthletic Director

Now in his fourth year (2011-12) as Director of Athletics at Florida Southern College, Pete Meyer saw Moccasin teams enjoy another successful year in 2010-11. The women’s golf team finished third at the NCAA Division II Championship; the swimming team claimed four individual event NCAA championships (Mary O’Sullivan – 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke, Jeb Halfacre – 200-yard backstroke, and the men’s 400-yard medley relay team); and twelve of FSC’s programs participated in NCAA postseason competition. FSC won Sunshine State Conference titles in men’s cross country (14th straight) and women’s basketball (regular season and SSC tournament), won the SSC women’s Mayors’ Cup, and tied for second in the men’s Mayors’ Cup.

That success combined to give the Moccasins a 19th-place finish, tops among SSC schools, in the 2010-11 Learfield Sports/NACDA Cup standings and their 10th top-25 finish in the program's history.

Meyer also returned to the coaching ranks in 2010-11, taking command of the baseball program 12 games into the season and guiding the Moccasins to a final season record of 32-15.

In 2009-10, FSC won its 12th NCAA men’s golf title and 27th

national title overall and produced its first national champion in swimming (Jeb Halfacre – 200-yard backstroke). Eleven programs were represented in NCAA postseason competition, with men’s golf, basketball and cross country teams capturing SSC titles.

In Meyer's first year as AD (2008-09), Moccasin teams produced three SSC championships (men's cross country, men's basketball, softball) and a fifth-place national finish in women's golf. Eleven FSC teams went to NCAA postseason competition.

Named to the AD position February 21, 2008, he officially assumed his duties July 1, 2008, when Lois Webb retired. In the fall of 2008, Meyer was given the additional title of Dean of Wellness, putting the operation of the Hollis Wellness Center, as well as the water ski program and campus intramurals under his direction. Meyer, who has been at Florida Southern since 1998, also served as assistant athletics director for Webb from February of 2006 until his AD appointment.

In his previous stint as baseball coach (2002-08), Meyer spent six full seasons as head coach, guiding the Moccasins to their ninth NCAA Division II national title in 2005 with a 51-11 record. His head coaching record at Florida Southern is 282-121-1, while his overall record as a head coach is 321-151-1. Thirty-eight Moccasin baseball players have been drafted or signed professional contracts during Meyer's tenure as head coach.

Before officially assuming the reigns of head baseball coach in June of 2002, Meyer had served for over three years as Florida Southern's top assistant coach under Chuck Anderson. He also was the program's recruiting coordinator.

Prior to joining the FSC coaching staff, Meyer spent five seasons at Valdosta State, working under legendary head coach Tommy Thomas. Before his stint at Valdosta State, Meyer was head baseball coach at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, where he coordinated the start of the school's Division III program in 1991. His Oglethorpe teams won Eastern Division titles in the SCAC in each of his two seasons (1992-93).

He served as a graduate assistant at Valdosta State from 1988-90, while earning his M. Ed. in physical education. A four-year baseball letterman at the College of Wooster in Ohio, Meyer graduated in 1987 with a B.A. in speech communication.

Meyer is married to the former Julie Newnum. The couple has three children - 23-year old Ross, 21-year-old Mitchell, who is enrolled at FSC, and 20-year old Megan, who attends Trinity University in Texas.

2011 Florida Southern PreviewSome would say the mountain has come to Ben

Straw bridge in 2011, and if that’s true, he’s stepping forward to greet it with arms wide open. It’s the same way he’s welcomed every other challenge in his six years as head coach of the Florida Southern women’s soccer team, and so far, a whole lot of mountains have been climbed, moved, and generally pounded down into mole hills. In this case, the mountain is the departure of a senior class that would have to be considered the strongest in the program’s 14-year history. Among them were five all-conference players, two all-region selections, a two-time MVP, the team’s all-time leading scorer, and two defenders who helped the Moccasins record 26 shutouts and a 1.22 goals against average over the last four years. It sounds like a lot to replace, and it is, but Strawbridge won’t be facing the challenge alone. He’s got plenty of help from a group of players who are eager to leave their own legacy on the program, including some who already have. Overall, the Moccasins return 12 players from last year’s team, and seven of them started at least a dozen games. They may have lost their top two scorers, but the Mocs return the next four on the list; they may have lost two starting defenders, but they return two others, plus a 4-year starting goalkeeper; and they may have lost one of the best midfielders they’ve ever had, but they return so many others with so much experience, Strawbridge may have trouble getting them all on the field at the same time. Some of those midfielders will also be playing as forwards, just as they’ve done in the past, and that should ease much of the logjam at that position. With All-SSC forwards Princess Haley and Kerri-Ann Brown having graduated, the Moccasins will have to replace that offense from somewhere, and there’s a good chance much of it will come from the group of swing players who can play either up front or in the midfield. Replacing midfielder Jackie Bachteler is another issue, but Strawbridge says it’s not so much a question of replacement, as it is trying to emulate the things she did over the last four years. It’s also a call for the returning veterans to push their

game to an even higher level than what they’ve shown in the past. Five of those players are seniors, and they’ve done a lot of

scoring themselves over the last three years. Leading that group is Alex H oover, an All-

SSC forward in 2009 who has 13 goals and 46 points

in her career. She led the SSC in assists as a sophomore,

and led the team again last year while playing both forward and midfield. She’ll give

Florida Southern a goal-scoring threat no matter where she is in the lineup, and the Mocs will

also be counting on her play-making skills to set up others.

The same is true of 5th-year senior Adi Alvarado, who had three goals and two assists last year in her first season with the Moccasins. After putting up 16 goals and 16 assists as a sophomore in 2008 for one of the nation’s top junior college programs, she too has shown the ability to score when needed.

Unlike Hoover and Alvarado, Emily Griffith has been used strictly

as a midfielder in her career, but the Moccasins are still counting on her to supply a portion of the offense. She did that last year with three goals and three assists, after putting up three goals and four assists as a sophomore.

H anna J ansson is another senior who has spent much of her time at Florida Southern floating between the midfield and forward lines, though midfield appears to be her position in 2011. She’s started a total of 14 games in her career and come off the bench

in 39 others. The Mocs are also hoping H olly Bennett can re-assume a bigger role as she did in 2009, when her contributions to the defense helped her earn a spot as one of the team’s top reserves. While the midfield line is dominated by the large group of seniors, Florida Southern’s top scorer at that position last year was a freshman. Now in her second season, K ara Moore is expected to continue what she started last year when she scored four goals and 11 points. Her skill on set plays gives Florida Southern a legitimate chance to score every time a free kick or corner kick is taken. Sophomore Alyssa Abrahamsen is yet another versatile player who could end up anywhere on the field. Listed as a midfielder, Abrahamsen has been used at center back and at forward, and already has plenty of game experience with 19 appearances and five starts as a freshman. Sophomore Mandy Terbrueggen rounds out the returning midfielders, and the Moccasins are hoping to get her more game action in 2011. With so many veteran midfielders already on the roster, Strawbridge has the luxury of working the freshmen into the lineup when they’re ready. One of them may already have a leg up, as Amy Wheat graduated early from high school, and joined the Moccasins last spring. Wheat was an All-State selection at Lecanto her sophomore year when she had over 30 goals and 30 assists, but could be used on defense as well at Florida Southern. Marissa Maries spent her spring helping Steinbrenner High School in Tampa win a state championship in only its second year of existence, and scored in both the semifinals and championship game. Out-of-state products Sarah Mansager and Emmalisa Z apfe are also in the mix. Mansager helped South River High School in Maryland reach the regional semifinals as a senior and record 30 shutouts over her final three seasons there.

Zapfe, meanwhile, helped Cherry Hill West High School come within one game of the state final four in New Jersey. Another freshman who will have a chance to make an impact right away is forward K irra Rainbow , a finalist for the 3A Player-of-the-Year award in 2010 with Melbourne Central Catholic, and a 2-time All-State selection. She also helped her club team win the state cup in 2007. Strawbridge is hoping Rainbow can pick up some of the slack on offense left by last year’s departed seniors, but she can also play in the back if needed. She was MCC’s defensive player-of-the-year as a sophomore, showing her ability to play both ends of the field. Playing both ends is something junior K ayla Wilhide will be attempting to do as well, perhaps even more dramatically. For the last two years, Wilhide served as Florida Southern’s backup goalkeeper, but this year she’s moving to forward where the Mocs hope she can provide support for their more established goal scorers. No player on the roster though, embodies the end-to-end concept more than junior Morgan Sammons. As a freshman in 2009, she started 12 games as a forward, and totaled five goals and 16 points. Last year as a sophomore, all of her starts came at center back until the NCAA Tournament when she moved up

front again and scored Florida Southern’s only

goal in the 1-1 tie with Florida Tech. For now, she’s projected to be in the middle of the Moccasin

defense where she’ll have to assume more responsibility after the

graduation of Ashlie Haas. What Sammons did for the defense last year is something Lex ie Bottomley has been doing for three years, and soon to be four. The senior has started every game in her career at outside back and seems to be at her best in the Mocs’

biggest games. There have been too many times to count over the last three seasons when Bottomley prevented a goal or snuffed out a scoring chance that either kept Florida Southern in the game, or in the lead. With half of last year’s back line now graduated, along with top reserve Anna Ott, Bottomley will be one of those seniors the Mocs may have to lean on even more. In addition to Haas, the Moccasins also graduated All-SSC defender Kristen Vollmer, who played the outside back position opposite Bottomley for most of the last three years. Strawbridge admitted losing both of them was big, but the Mocs will compensate by moving forward in a different way, and much of the preseason has been devoted to finding new starters at those positions. One of them could be sophomore Brooke Williams, who played her freshman year at Florida Gulf Coast University. She appeared in seven games for the Eagles, a team that knows

something about defense with 11 shutouts and only nine goals allowed in their 17 games last year. She’s also very familiar with what the Mocs like to do with their defense after playing club soccer for Strawbridge and current assistant coach Jason Streets with Real Salt Lake Florida. The Moccasins also landed junior college transfer Robin Loughry from the powerful Polk State program that also produced Vollmer, Alvarado, and Brown, as well as former All-South Region defender Renee Heacock. Loughry helped Polk State post eight shutouts in 16 games as a sophomore when the Vikings were ranked #1 in the country at one point, and finished the year 6th in the national tournament. Freshman J ackie Metz will have a chance to earn a starting job too after leading Vero Beach High School to the 6A state championship game as a senior. A 3-time All-State selection, she can also play midfield, and her numbers from high school include seven goals and 16 assists as a senior. Redshirt freshman Elise Fisher has also played in Florida’s 6A state championship game, doing so in 2010 for Boca Raton Community High School. She was part of a defense that recorded 48 shutouts in her last three seasons, including 19 during the run to the title game her senior year. Like Metz, it means she’s played on the big stage in high school, helping prepare her for bigger things in college. Auburn Cherry is another freshman trying to crack the lineup after a stand-out career at Mitchell High School in New Port Richey. She was one of the top defenders in Pasco County during her prep career and helped Mitchell win two district titles during that time. Caitlyn Lopez completes the freshman class of defenders for Florida Southern, though she was an All-Pinellas County midfielder as a senior for East Lake High School. Like so many of the other recent recruits, Lopez has big game experience too, helping the Eagles reach the 5A state final four in 2008, and her club team reach Florida’s “elite eight” in both 2009 and 2010. The Moccasin defense wouldn’t be complete without senior goalkeeper Martina Tangen Billing, who’s started all 60 games over the last three years, and played all but 30 minutes. In every high-pressure game the Mocs have had, Tangen Billing has delivered, and the numbers bear that out. She’s been on

the All-SSC Tournament Team all three years of her career so far, an unprecedented feat among league goalkeepers. Last year she turned in a career-best 1.11 goals against

average with 80 saves. With Wilhide changing positions,

Head Coach Ben StrawbridgeBen Strawbridge is in his sixth year

as head women’s soccer coach at Florida Southern College after being hired on June 14, 2006. He is only the second head coach the program has had since it began play in 1998, and he’s guided the Moccasins to four straight 10-win seasons coming into 2011. Last year also marked the fourth year in a row Florida Southern has finished the year in the top six of the NCAA South Region rankings.

Overall, Strawbridge has put together a 54-35-8 record in his first five seasons, which includes a 24-15-1 mark in the Sunshine State Conference, two appearances in the SSC Championship Game, and three straight trips to the NCAA Tournament from 2008-10. Both the SSC Championship Game and NCAA playoff appearances are the first in team history. Other firsts for the Moccasins under Strawbridge are their first national ranking (2008), their first win over a ranked opponent (2009), their first All-American (2007), and their first Academic All-American (2008). Strawbridge also earned a “first” for himself when he was voted the SSC Coach-of-the-Year in 2007.

Over the last four years, Florida Southern has gone 48-24-8for a .650 winning percentage overall, and 22-9-1 for a .703 winning percentage in SSC regular season play. The 22 conference wins are tied with Rollins for the most in the SSC during that span, and only Rollins at .766, has a better SSC winning percentage from 2007-10. Florida Southern and Rollins are also the only teams in the conference to have four straight 10-win seasons during that time. It’s an even more impressive feat considering the quality of play in the SSC, a league that has had six different teams play in the NCAA Tournament since 2007, and two of them advance to at least the national semifinals. All of that came with Strawbridge’s first ever recruiting class.

Scheduling is a big reason why the Moccasins have achieved their recent success, with Strawbridge putting his team up against the best competition he can find. Since he arrived, Florida Southern has faced 22 nationally ranked opponents,

including five last year when the Mocs went 1-1-3 in those games. In each of the last two seasons, the Mocs have gone on the road to upset top-10 teams, earning a 2-1 overtime win at #9 Franklin Pierce (NH) in 2009, and a 3-2 overtime win at #2 West Florida in 2010. They also tied another team ranked #2 in the nation last year when they played to a scoreless draw at Columbus State.

In addition to their games against ranked opponents, 2010 marked the third time in five years the Moccasins have played at least seven games against teams that went on to qualify for the NCAA Tournament. In all five of those years, the Mocs played one team that advanced to at least the national semifinals, and in 2007 and 2008, the Mocs took on the defending national champs. The 2011 schedule features a similar group, with seven of last year’s NCAA qualifiers on the docket for this year as well.

Typical of how they’ve played under Strawbridge, the Moccasins were at their best in 2010 against the best teams on the schedule. En route to a 10-5-4 overall record, the Mocs defeated four teams that won conference regular season or tournament championships (West Florida, Abilene Christian, Nova Southeastern and Tampa), and tied another (Columbus State). They also played national semi-finalist Florida Tech to a tie on two different occasions, including once in the NCAA South Region Tournament where the Panthers needed penalty kicks to advance past Florida Southern. The Mocs even played seven of the top 16 scoring offenses in the nation in 2010, beating four of them and tying two others.

Results such as that helped put Florida Southern into the NCAA Tournament for the third year in a row, equaling the longest current streak in the Sunshine State Conference. At the end of the season, four Moccasins were named to the All-SSC Team, led by Princess Haley, who became only the secondplayer in team history to earn all-conference honors three years in a row. That brought the number of All-SSC selections under Strawbridge to 17 in five years, including 12 distinct players.

2010 also saw Florida Southern achieve its highest national ranking in program history when the Moccasins moved up to #12 in the NSCAA poll after defeating West Florida on

Top Teams in the Sunshine State Conference Since 2007 With SSC Regular Season Records During that Time

September 12. They spent the next six weeks ranked in the top-20, and finished the regular season at #25. In the NCAA regional rankings, the Moccasins reached #1 for the first time ever on October 27, 2010.

Strawbridge first arrived at Florida Southern in 2006, and had little time to prepare for his first college head coaching job. Hired on June 14, his first look at the Moccasins came just two months later, and six of his first nine games were against teams that qualified for that year’s NCAA Tournament.

Florida Southern finished 6-11 that year, but even with that record, there were signs of things to come. In their first two games under Strawbridge, the Mocs took Peach Belt champion Columbus State to double overtime, and lost another one-goal decision to Armstrong Atlantic State, both of whom advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The following weekend saw Strawbridge earn his first career win with a 2-0 decision over Montevallo on September 1, as well as a 2-1 overtime victory against Alabama-Huntsville. The Mocs continued to improve throughout the season, and went 4-4 over the last eight games.

By the time his rookie season ended, Strawbridge and the Moccasins had played seven games against NCAA Tournament teams, the most of any school in the Sunshine State Conference. The Mocs dropped two of those games in double overtime, lost another one in the final seconds, and battled national semi-finalist Tampa evenly for more than 70 minutes.

Along the way, there were plenty of highlights for Strawbridge in his first year. The Moccasins set a team scoringrecord in a 7-1 win over Warner Southern, earned their first ever win over national power Barry, and won three dramatic overtime games against South Region competition.

In year two of the Strawbridge era, the Mocs picked up where they left off in 2006, as their 5-0 start included wins over Armstrong Atlantic State and Montevallo, two teams that wenton to earn NCAA Tournament bids. The Mocs almost joined them, and finished the season ranked high enough in the final South Region poll, but were bumped in favor of an automatic qualifier that won the Gulf South Conference Tournament in upset fashion.

Altogether, Florida Southern again faced seven teams that did make the NCAA Tournament, beating two and tying another (Nova SE). They also lost double overtime games to Saint Leo and national champion Tampa, and played an even game with2006 national champion Metro State in Denver for 70 minutes.

Games like that meant the Mocs’record of 12-7-1 came against the most difficult schedule they’d ever faced to that point. In addition to seven games against NCAA qualifiers, the Mocs also faced 11 teams that won 10 or more games, and were the only team in the country to schedule both the 2006 and 2007 national champions. It also helped the Mocs reach their highest regional ranking ever at the time (#4), and receive votes in the national poll for the first time in team history.

Not surprisingly, the Moccasins set numerous school records in their second year under Strawbridge. While the wins were the most

important of those, they also established new marks for longest winning streak, goals scored, goals per game, total points, shutouts, and fewest shots allowed, and had three players named First Team All-Sunshine State Conference. That was one more than they had in the previous nine years. Most of those records didn’t last long, however, as the Mocs turned right around and broke many of them again in 2008.

The impact Strawbridge had was felt all over the field too. Up front, Linda Hoglund set school records with 33 points and 17 assists, and became the first Moccasin to lead the nation in any statistical category (assists per game). The back line saw Amy Clampitt-Holsenbeck star as the SSC Defensive Player-of-the-Year in her first season at that position, yet still lead theteam in goals scored, and the nation in scoring by a defender. Meanwhile, Erin Hopkins set a school scoring record by a midfielder, first-year starting goalkeeper Sarah Furr set a record for shutouts, and a defense with three converted forwards allowed only 9.6 shots per game. After the season, Clampitt-Holsenbeck was honored as the team’s first Daktroncis All-American, Hoglund and Hopkins were all-region selections, and Strawbridge was voted SSC Coach-of-the-Year.

After coming up just short in their quest for an NCAA Tournament bid in 2007, the Moccasins made it in 2008, going 14-4-2 overall and 7-1 in the Sunshine State Conference. That earned the Mocs 2nd place in the SSC regular season standings, their best finish ever. After a 3-2, double-overtime win vs. Tampa in the SSC Tournament semifinals, the Mocs also played in their first SSC Championship Game, tying Saint Leo 1-1, before being edged in penalty kicks. One day later, the Mocs were awarded the #3 seed in the Division II South Region Tournament, where they battled conference rival Florida Tech to a 1-1 draw before the Panthers advanced on penalty kicks.

While Florida Southern’s 14 wins were an impressive total, the way they were accomplished was equally so. The regular season schedule featured seven teams that played in the 2007 NCAA Tournament, two additional teams that qualified in 2008, and even a Division I program. At one point, beginning in mid-

September, Florida Southern reeled off 11 straight wins to set a school record for longest winning streak. Seven

of those wins came in conference play, including a grueling 5-day stretch where the Mocs beat Nova Southeastern, Saint Leo and Tampa, the league’s top three teams from 2007.

After beating Saint Leo on October 19, Florida Southern moved into the NSCAA national rankings for the first time ever at #24, and spent the next three weeks in the poll. They went 3-1-1 during that stretch, which included a pair of wins over

defending national champion Tampa.Statistically, the Moccasins finished

#12 in the country in scoring, averaging 2.75 goals per game with a school-record

55 goals. They were the only Division II team in the country to go through the entire

season without being shut out, and one of only six to score on national runner-up West Florida.

Along those lines, Strawbridge saw five of his players in 2008 record at least 20 points, led

by midfielder Erin Hopkins (12 goals & 12 assists) and forward Princess Haley (15 goals &

five assists). With 36 and 35 points respectively,

each of them broke the previous school scoring record and went on to earn First Team All-SSC honors. Along with Linda Hoglund (who set Florida Southern’s career scoring record), the Mocs also had three players named to the NSCAA All-South Region Team, and Hopkins became the first Moccasin ever to be named an NSCAA All-American, as well as an Academic All-American.

In 2009, Strawbridge had the task of replacing three of his all-conference performers from the previous season, but he and the Moccasins came up with two new All-SSC players and went on to earn another trip to the NCAA Tournament. It wasn’t easy, as they started 0-2 and dropped their first four regional games to put themselves in a tough position just three weeks into the season. What followed was a remarkable nine-game, 26-day stretch that saw them go 7-1-1, with all of those games against regional opponents. The Mocs ended that run with a resounding 4-1 victory at Saint Leo, a win that vaulted them back into playoff position when a loss might have knocked them out.

At the end of the year, Florida Southern’s 12-8-1 record included a 6-2 mark in conference play and two more wins in the SSC Tournament. That put them in the SSC Championship game for the second year in a row where they lost to 8th-ranked Rollins, 1-0.

The championship game against Rollins was one of a school-record seven matches against nationally ranked teams. Earlier in the year the Moccasins beat one of them for the first time ever, a 2-1 overtime win at Franklin Pierce, a program with five national titles to its credit and ranked #9 at the time of the match. The Mocs then added to their list with a 2-0 win over #15 Florida Tech in the semifinals of the SSC Tournament.

Though 2009 ended with a 3-2 loss to North Alabama in the NCAA South Region Tournament, Florida Southern had its third straight 12-win season and set a new school record with eight shutouts. The team’s 1.30 goals against average came against a schedule that featured seven games against the top 14 scoring teams in Division II, another indication of the type of schedule Strawbridge annually conceives. The Moccasins also had three players on the NSCAA All-South Region Team for the second year in a row.

Prior to Florida Southern, Strawbridge was the assistant women's soccer coach at Division I Liberty University from 2002-05 under James Price. In his final season with the Flames, he helped Liberty win the 2005 Big South Conference championship, and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The

Flames were 12-7-2 overall and 5-3 in the Big South, giving them a winning conference record in all four years Strawbridge was an assistant, including 2002 when they were undefeated in league play.

Strawbridge also played at Liberty, where he started all 67 games from 1998-2001 as a defender. During that time, he established himself as one of the best players to ever wear a Flames uniform. He was two-time All-South Atlantic Region, and remains the only player in team history to earn First Team All-Big South honors three straight years. His play in 1999 helped Liberty goalkeeper Dean Short set a Big South Conference record with 10 shutouts.

After his college career, Strawbridge went on to play two seasons with the Richmond Kickers in the USL A-League. He was also a third round draft pick by the Milwaukee Wave in the 2002 Major Indoor Soccer League draft.

While he spent eight years in Lynchburg, Virginia as part of Liberty’s soccer program, Strawbridge began his soccer career in Lakeland, which made his arrival at Florida Southern in 2006 as more of a homecoming. He was a member of three state championship teams at Lakeland Christian in his prep careerbefore signing with Liberty.

Strawbridge earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from Liberty in 2002, and his master’s in business administration in 2006. He and his wife, Kristy, havetwo daughters: 5-year old, Aslyn, and 4-year old Maryn, and 1-year old Hackett.

Assistant Coach Jason StreetsNow in his fourth year as assistant coach at Florida Southern is Jason Streets, and like head coach Ben

Strawbridge, he’s a Lakeland native who graduated from both Lakeland Christian High School and Liberty University, where they were college teammates from 1998-2001.

While at Liberty, Streets was a First Team All-Big South Conference selection in 1999, when he put together one of the best seasons ever by a member of the Flames. That year he became just the fifth player in school history with a 30-point season when he scored 14 goals and added two assists. His team-leading point total helped Liberty to a school-record 14 wins that season, and a runner-up finish in the Big South Conference Tournament. He was a member of the all-tournament team, helping the Flames defeat Elon and Winthrop before they were out-dueled in penalty kicks by Radford.

Two years later as a senior, he notched nine assists to lead the Big South Conference in that category and equal the second most ever recorded by a Liberty player. He scored 27 goals with 11 assists in his career, finishing with 65 career points to rank 10th in team history. During his time at Liberty, the Flames were 18-8-1 in conference play, won two Big South regular season titles, and finished second in the Big South Tournament three times.

In addition to his duties at Florida Southern, Streets is also head coach of the girls’ soccer team at Lakeland Christian, a title he’s held since 2004 when he debuted with a 23-4 record in his rookie season. His seven-year record stands at 122-37-15 for a .744winning percentage, with seven appearances in the state playoffs. The Vikings have won the district title six times under Streets,including 2011, and finished as runner-up in the one year they didn’t win. Last year, Streets guided the Vikings to a 15-3-2 record, which included a spot in the region championship game for the sixth time in his career.

While coaching in both high school and college, Streets is also a staff coach for the Brandon FC Elite Program, and is heavilyinvolved in the Florida Youth Soccer Association where he has coached two state championship teams.

Streets is not the only member of his family involved in coaching, or to be involved with the Florida Southern soccer program.His brother Grandy is the boys’ coach at Lakeland Christian, and his brother Jonathan played three years at Florida Southern from 2003-05, and is also a current assistant coach with the women’s team.

Assistant Coach Jonathan StreetsReturning for his second tour of duty with the Florida Southern women’s soccer team is Jonathan Streets, the

younger brother of another Moccasin assistant, Jason Streets. Jonathan previously served as an assistant under Ben Strawbridge during the 2006 and 2007 seasons.

A teammate of Strawbridge in both high school (Lakeland Christian) and college (Liberty University), much as his brother was, Streets was also a 3-year letterman for the Florida Southern men’s soccer team from 2003-05. After injuries allowed him to play in only nine games his sophomore year, he was named the Moccasins’ top midfielder as a junior when he scored two goals, led the team with five assists, and was third on the team with nine points in 13 games.

As a senior, Streets started all but one game, and again tied for the team lead with five assists. At that point, he was only the third player in the program’s 50-year history to lead, or tie for the team lead, in assists during back-to-back seasons.Including his freshman year at Liberty, Streets finished his college career with five goals and 13 assists for 23 points.

Prior to his days at Liberty and Florida Southern, Streets helped Lakeland Christian win state championships in 1996 and ’97. He was then a First Team All-State selection as a junior and senior, the 2000 Florida co-Player-of-the-Year for the state’s fall programs, and totaled 116 goals and 80 assists in his prep career.

Streets graduated from Florida Southern in the spring of 2006 with a degree in marketing, and is married to former Florida Southern volleyball player Amanda Buchanan.

Assistant Coach Ricky DavisNew to the coaching staff in 2011 is Ricky Davis, who will serve as Florida Southern’s goalkeeping coach.

Davis is also a coach with Brandon Area Youth Soccer in the boys’ elite program, and serves as club goalkeeping coach as well. The President of Premier Goalkeeper Training, he owns the NSCAA National Diploma and the NSCAA National Goalkeeping Diploma.

Did You Know? In each of Florida Southern’s last two overtime wins at Barnett Field, Emily Griffith was involved in the game-winning goal. Both of those wins came in 2009, when she assisted Kerri-Ann Brown in a 3-2 win over Barry, and scored against Lynn in the SSC Tournament for another 3-2 win.

Did You Know? Florida Southern’s 3-2 overtime win at West Florida last year represented the highest ranked opponent the Moccasins have ever defeated. The Argonauts were ranked #2 in the NSCAA national poll at the time. Later in the season, Florida Southern played another team ranked #2, Columbus State, to a 0-0 tie. Prior to that, Florida Southern had been 0-7 all-time against teams that were ranked in the national top five. Only once have the Mocs faced the #1 ranked team in the country, losing to Barry in 2000 by a score of 6-0.

Did You Know? Three field players have seen time as a goalkeeper for Florida Southern, including defender Ashlie Haas last year in the NCAA Tournament against Florida Tech. Haas played the second overtime period of the 1-1 tie but did not have to make a save before the game was decided by penalty kicks. In 2003, midfielder Danielle Zirkelbach started two games in goal at the end of the regular season when regular starter Kim Fish and backup Casey Mogford were both injured. Cassie Miller also started in goal for the Moccasins in 2001 against Thomas (GA). After keeping the Night Hawks off the scoreboard for more than 20 minutes, Miller returned to the field where she later snapped a 1-1 tie with the game-winning goal in a 3-1 victory. AMY CLAMPITT-H OLSENBECK 2007 Daktronics First Team All-American

In 2007, Amy Clampitt-Holsenbeck became Florida Southern’s first women’s soccer All-American as the senior put together perhaps the best all-around season in school history. Not only was she voted the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player-of-the-Year, she was also the team’s leading goal scorer and finished the season with nine goals and 20 points. Those were the highest totals for any defender in all of NCAA Division II. She helped the Mocs post a 1.18 goals against average, set a school record with seven shutouts and allow just 9.6 shots per game.

In helping lead Florida Southern to its first ever NCAA Tournament, senior center midfielder Erin Hopkins set the school’s single season scoring record with 36 points. She scored 12 goals with 12 assists, becoming the first player in team history to reach double figures in both those categories in the same season. She was also the first Moccasin to be named First Team All-SSC in back-to-back seasons. Hopkins was also an outstanding student at Florida Southern, and her list of 2008 awards included Second Team Academic All-American. Lacy Emmerling was a four-year starter for the Moccasins and a two-time MVP. She finished her career with 584 saves to rank sixth in NCAA Division II history and first in SSC history. Emmerling also set a league record with 156 saves as a freshman in 1999. Eckerd’s Cory Hawkins broke that record in 2007, with 183.

Jackie Bachteler was twice selected the Mocs’ MVP in her career (2007-10) and was also a 2-time All-SSC midfielder. Her 79 career starts are a school record. She now plays professionally in Finland.

Did You Know? Only one time has Florida Southern been involved in a game where each team scored four goals. In 1999, the Moccasins defeated Rollins at Barnett Field, 5-4, with the teams combining for five goals in the final 17 minutes, and the Tars scoring twice in the final six minutes to cut the gap to one. Liane Muise had two goals and one assist for the Mocs, while Alicia Milyak had a hat trick for Rollins. One year later, Rollins took things even further with a 9-7 loss to Tampa.

Sarah Furr was Florida Southern’s goalkeeper for only one season, but what a season it was. As a senior in 2007, she played every minute and set school records for shutouts and consecutive scoreless minutes, while posting a 1.18 goals against average that ranks third in school history. Despite playing only one year between the posts, her seven shutouts still rank second on the team’s career list.

Linda Hoglund led the nation in assists per game in 2007, when she set the school record with 17. She also holds the career assist record, and graduated as the Mocs’ all-time scoring leader with 78 points, a record surpassed last year.

Did You Know? Nicole Brant is the only field player to play every minute of every game in a season. She did so as both a junior (2003) and senior (2004) while starting in the center of Florida Southern’s defensive line. That stretch covered a total of 34 games.

It came just 40 seconds after the opening kickoff, and though it had never happened before then, it nearly happened a second time in the same game. Just 28 seconds later, Renee H eacock scored again for the Moccasins for the second fastest goal in team history. The Mocs then added a third goal when Ashlie H aas gave them a 3-0 lead only 3:24 into the game. The only other time Florida Southern has scored a goal in the first two minutes of a game was in a 6-0 win over Thomas in 2007. Erin H opkins scored that one at the 1:28 mark. Defensively, Florida Southern has allowed a first-minute goal on two occasions, most recently in 2004, when Rollins scored 27 seconds into the game en route to a 3-0 win. The first time it happened was even faster, as Tampa’s Stephanie Keating needed just 14 seconds to score in 1999.

By scoring just 28 seconds apart, they broke the previous record of 34 seconds set in 1998 by Noreen Drenthe and V alerie K raj csik in a 4-1 win over Embry-Riddle. Shortest Time Betw een Goals by the Same Player ................ 10/ 4/ 06 Though she would later go on to be the 2007 SSC Defensive Player-of-the-Year, Amy Clampitt-H olsenbeck first put her name in the Florida Southern record book for something she did on offense. One year earlier, in a 7-1 win over Warner Southern, she became the first player to score two goals in less than a minute; those goals came 41 seconds apart and sent her on the way to the first of her two career hat tricks. Since then, one other player has managed to score two goals in less than a minute’s time. Liz Gorman joined her in that category by scoring 55 seconds apart in a 4-2 victory at Lynn in 2008. It was the fastest overtime goal in team history, and the second time they needed less than a minute of sudden death to win a game. THE SUNSHINE STATE CONFERENCEFounded in 1975, the Sunshine

State Conference has risen from a single sport organization to the Division II “Conference of Champions”. Since its inception, the conference has grown steadily in sports played, membership and national prominence.

Sunshine State Conference member schools have won recent NCAA national titles (76 total) in baseball, men’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s

soccer, and women’s volleyball. The SSC is also nationally recognized in men’s and women’s cross country, women’s rowing and women’s basketball.

The SSC sponsors championships in baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s tennis, women’s volleyball, softball and women’s rowing.

Last year saw the SSC add two more titles to the list when Nova Southeastern captured its third straight national championship in women’s golf, and Barry brought home the women’s tennis championship one year after its men won.

There are more members of the SSC Hall of Fame from Florida Southern than any other school in the league, and three more were inducted in 2011 to bring that total to 44. The most recent inductees are men’s golfer Steve Paramore, softball player Wanda Graham, and women’s basketball player Lucresia West (pictured from left to right).Nine Moccasin representatives were inducted into the inaugural class in 1991-92, and FSC has had at least one inductee in 16 of the 19classes since the Hall’s inception. Founded by the United Methodist Church, Florida Southern College is one of the oldest private colleges in the state, tracing its beginnings to a small seminary in Orlando in 1885. The tie to its founding church has remained constant and is today, a proud part of the College's heritage and a bright beacon for the future.

Florida Southern moved to Lakeland in the heart of Florida's citrus belt in 1922 and began the construction of a campus that would eventually become a national landmark. The beautiful 100-acre campus, on the north shore of Lake Hollingsworth, includes the world's largest collection of buildings by master architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

Florida Southern’s West Campus, now known throughout the world, actually had its inception in the mind of Dr. Ludd M. Spivey, president of the college from 1925-1957.

In 1935 he conceived the idea of an ultra-modern campus, designed by the world's leading architect. Ground was broken two years later for the first building in the Wright collection, the Annie Pfeiffer Chapel.

What Frank Lloyd Wright created on the campus is amazing. His original work is still as modern and exciting as the newest buildings still on many architect's drawing boards. It is, perhaps, symbolic that the greatest concentration of his genius should be located at a small, private institution of higher learning. Perhaps he describes it best, "...out of the ground and into the light, a child of the sun...the college of tomorrow."

The Danforth Chapel is one of two chapels on campus designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

The Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center houses a full-sized basketball court, weight and aerobic rooms, and a student lounge and is adjacent to an NCAA regulation size swimming pool.

A grouping of three residence halls, the Publix Commons are close to just about everything on the Florida Southern campus. All three buildings offer suite-style living in which six students each have their own rooms and share a living area and bathroom. The Publix Commons also is home to Florida Southern’s Greek organizations.

Florida Southern’s recently renovated Water Dome, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, made its premiere performance on October 25, 2007. The Water Dome features 74 jets powering streams of water 45-feet into the air. It took almost 260,000 gallons of water to fill the basin of the dome and at full power 4,800 gallons are water are pumped per minute.

All of Florida Southern College’s residence halls offer wireless access in the common lobby areas and every room offers cable TV and is wired for internet access. In addition, wireless hotspots on campus include the Roux Library, TûTû’s Cyber Cafe (which offers Starbucks products), Wynee’s Bistro (our cafeteria), and the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center and pool area.

As one of the four original buildings on the FSC campus, Joseph-Reynolds Hall (“JR”) offers one of the best views on campus. It sits atop a hill overlooking Lake Hollingsworth. Community life is big here - the women of JR form groups within the building as a whole and also within the “wings” and smaller hallways. JR and its companion hall, Spivey, are located in the center of campus between Edge Hall and Ordway and serve mainly as first-year female residence halls.

Wesley Hall is one of two new twin residence halls at FSC, and opened in the fall of 2008. The second building, Nicholas Hall, opened in the fall of 2009. Each new residence hall includes 115 bedrooms with views of Lake Hollingsworth, meeting rooms, student lounges, kitchens, and study spaces.

FLORIDA SOUTHERN SECOND ON BOTH SIDES OF THE MAYORS’ CUP

The Mayors’ Cup recognizes competition in seven sports for men (soccer, cross country, basketball, swimming, golf, tennis and baseball), and nine sports for women (soccer, cross country, basketball, swimming golf, tennis volleyball, softball and rowing). Points in each sport are awarded by the number of schools sponsoring teams in the respective sports.

Last year saw Florida Southern win the women’s Mayors’ Cup for the 11th time, largely on the strength of its SSC title in basketball, and 2nd-place finishes in volleyball, swimming and golf.

Florida Southern has also won the men’s Mayors’ Cup 11 times, and nearly added to that total last year. The Mocs finished second to Barry by half a point.

From Orlando… I-4 West to exit 33. Turn left off exit, and turn right at second stoplight. Continue to major intersection at Memorial Blvd and turn left. Go 1/2 mile to Ingraham Avenue and turn right. Go to McDonald and turn right. Parking lot is on the left, just past Barnett Field.

From Orlando Airport… Take 417 South (toll road) to I-4West and follow directions above.

From Tampa/St. Petersburg… Follow I-4 East to Exit 27 (570E, Polk Parkway exit). Go approximately 6.1 miles to Exit 7 (South Florida Avenue - toll: 50 cents). Turn left onto 37N (South Florida Avenue) and go to McDonald Street. Turn right on McDonald and go seven blocks to the campus. Barnett Field is the by the second parking lot on the right.

From Palm Beach/Miami… Take Florida Turnpike north to Yeehaw Junction (Highway 60). Take Highway 60 to 98 North in Bartow, and 98 North into Lakeland. Watch for the Grove Park Shopping Plaza (on the left) and turn left at Crystal Lake Drive. Go to Lake Hollingsworth Drive, turn right and go around the lake to Ingraham Avenue. Turn rightagain, and go to stop sign (McDonald) and turn left. Parking lot will be on the left, just past Barnett Field.

BARNETT FIELD, HOME OF THE MOCCASINSThe Moccasins play all of their home

games at Barnett Field, on the campus of Florida Southern College. The field is located behind Jenkins Field House, home of the Moccasin volleyball and basketball teams, on the corner of Ingraham Avenue and McDonald Street. Bleacher seating is available on one side of the pitch for approximately 500 fans.

Barnett Field is the only home the Moccasins have ever known since men’s soccer was first played as an intercollegiate sport in 1957. Originally known as Pipkin Field, it was re-christened Barnett Field in 1990, in honor of longtime Florida Southern booster Hoyt Barnett.

Lights were installed (nine polls at the cost of $100,000) in October of 1989, and the Moccasin men’s team played its first night game at Barnett Field in a 5-1, exhibition victory over Polk Community College in 1990. The first regular season night game was on September 8 of that year, a 2-0 loss to Flagler.

The first intercollegiate soccer game at Pipkin/Barnett Field was on October 26, 1957, when the Mocs lost to Rollins College,3-1. The women’s first game at Barnett Field was September 1, 1998 (the first game in the program’s history) and was a 5-2 loss to Tampa; the game was played in a steady rain throughout the night. Florida Southern eventually earned its first home win on September 17, 1998, defeating Embry-Riddle 4-1. In 13 years, the women’s soccer team has a 58-53-3 record on its home field.
