Women should find readily accessible tampons and pads in every restroom outside the home. Why? Well, it has been described many ways, women's health, equality, equity, basic human dignity. In states like New York, Illinois and California, policy makers recognized that personal care items are a health care necessity and signed policy directives that ensure they are provided at no charge in their grades 6-12 schools. The movement started in schools, but is progressing to the entire "away from home" market.

June 2016: New York City passed first legislation to ensure free access to personal care items in schools

April 2018: Schools in New York State are required to provide free menstrual products in restrooms for girls in grades 6 through 12.

August 2017: Illinois passed law requiring schools to provide free tampons and sanitary napkins in the bathrooms

October 12, 2017: Bill signed in California that requires qualifying California schools to provide free tampons and pads.
