2018-2019 OUA Championship Result: 6th place A close-knit Gryphon team was ready for the challenge facing them in the 2018/19 season. The Guelph program said goodbye to some incredible talents from the previous year but versatile new skaters like Keara McDonnell, April Trussler and Carling Allen joined a core led by veterans Olivia Stallaert and Andrew McDonald to form another strong team. The Gryphons’ hard work as a unit paid off at the OUA Figure Skating Championships in Kingston in mid February. Allen teamed with second-year athlete Natalie Savor to top the podium and win gold in the Intermediate Similar Pairs event. And fourth-year skater Paige Charbonneau would produce Guelph’s lone individual medal after an excellent performance in the Star 10 Freeskate earned her the silver. The Gryphons ultimately placed sixth at the OUA Championships.

2017-2018 OUA Championship Result: 5th Head coach Janet Gibson welcomed many new skaters to her Gryphon team in 2017-18. But Guelph’s status as one of the prominent programs in the OUA didn’t diminish. Core veterans welcomed in the many rookies and the Gryphons bonded early in the season, evidenced by a strong second-place finish at the OUA Fall Invitational held in Ottawa last November. They were unable to repeat that success after a flu bug ran through the team before the OUA Winter Invitational in North York in January, though another second-place result at the Synchro Capers event later that month renewed hopes of strong performances at the OUA Championship. The Gryphons entered the conference finale on a high and were in a strong position after day one in Aylmer, ON, sitting third in the standings. Guelph ultimately finished fifth in the team competition, winning four medals at the OUA Championship. The quartet of Jade Marrow, Andrew McDonald, Julia Cenedese and Lauren Mack celebrated gold in the Dance Fours, cementing their status as OUA All-stars. The result marked the second consecutive year that Marrow and McDonald had earned a gold medal after their win in the Creative Skating Skills event at the 2017 Championship. Cenedese took home three medals in total. She was part of the silver-medalist women’s Pairs Fours team with rookie Olivia Stallaert, Alexandra Recalis and Katie Butt, while also winning bronze with Marrow in the women’s Open Short Dance. Stallaert’s first ever OUA Championship was one to remember. In addition to her silver medal, she also won a bronze in the women’s Gold Freeskate, Guelph’s lone medal in a single-skater event.
