MJC Women’s Empowerment Luncheon
The purpose of the
Women’s Empowerment
Luncheon is to bring
together members of our
community, MJC staff
and MJC students to
educate and celebrate
women’s empowerment.
The luncheon is a free
event open to anyone.
The event is hosted by
Campus Life & Student
Learning.
The event is paid for by
ASMJC through the
Student Activity Fee.
MJC Female Veterans Celebrated Modesto Junior College is home to over 50 female veterans. This
past semester the MJC Foundation awarded a program grant to
Veterans Services to incorporate female veterans into the
Women’s Empowerment Luncheon.
The female veterans in attendance were given a commemorative
pen. Additionally, Katie Jaycox presented each veteran with a
certificate on behalf of Congressman Josh Harder.
MJC Men Step Up to Serve An added bonus to this very powerful event was the men who
stepped up to serve food, refill drinks and breakdown the event
when it was over.
Members of Campus Life, ASMJC and Veterans Services took the
lead to show their appreciation for those in attendance.
LUNCHEON PANEL TALKS EMPOWERMENT The Women’s Empowerment Luncheon featured an all-star lineup of empowered women.
Campus Life and Student Learning/Veterans Services Program Specialist Megan Lee served
as mistress of ceremonies. The panel included Adrenna Alkhas, Amanda Cannon, Erica
Ormsby and Nancy Salmeron.
Alkhas is the Marketing and Communications Director for the Stanislaus County Fair in
addition to teaching part time at MJC. She is also the author of EMPOWHER: Empowering
Young Women. Cannon is a U.S. Army Veteran and Research Analyst for MJC. Ormsby is
President and Co-founder of Lighthouse Global and the author of I Am Happy Healthy Free:
How to Become the Person Who Lived Their Dreams. Salmeron is the founder of Believe
Change Become and the author of Believe Change Become: Remembering Who You Were
Destined to Be.
“Ladies, we have to pull
each other up. We have
to empower each other
instead of tearing each
other down.”
