1. As soon as the baby comes out: Dry the baby and put it on the belly of the mother. Cover the baby with a warm cloth or blanket. Women on Waves: Safe Birth with Misoprostol Misoprostol can help prevent postpartum hemorrhage (heavy bleeding a=er birth). Here is how to use it safely. 2. Within ONE MINUTE of birth: Feel the belly to make sure there is not another baby in the womb (twins). 4. Three minutes aEer birth: Keeping the baby on the mother’s chest, clamp the cord with clean threads and cut it with a sterile blade. Then wait for placenta to come out. 3. Within ONE MINUTE of birth: Put three pills (200mg each) of misoprostol under the mother’s tongue. She must keep them there for 30 minutes before swallowing. 5. AEer the placenta comes out: Massage the womb (at the top end) unJl it feels like a hard ball. Do this every 15 minutes for the next two hours.
