WOMEN OF TRACHIS
The Greek and Latin Department in the Faculty of Humanities at UJ, in
co-operation with the Consulate General of Greece in Johannesburg,
present a unique screening of “Women of Trachis”, as staged by the National
Theatre of Greece at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus.
“Women of Trachis is a riveting tragedy set in motion by Deianeira’s all-consuming passion for
Heracles. Sophocles presents us with a world in which Eros-infl amed heroes commit wild and
uncontrollable acts; a poisonous and destructive world in which the gods are vengeful and
knowledge does not lead to the light.”
We invite you to join us for an exclusive screening of this masterpiece. The
internationally acclaimed Director Thomas Moschopoulos will be joining us on both
evenings to introduce the fi lm.
