No right to vote
No right to property and her pay, if married
Not allowed to hold positions in spheres like:
- law
- medicine
- politics
- business
Not allowed to many schools
Extremely unequal wages
When married, woman was supposed to be completely obedient to her husband
Women seen as naturally suited only for domestic issues.
Women pictured as: obedient, passionless, less than a man, dependent, physically delicate
Because of this treatment, the movement began
When the war started, women were fired from their jobs.
Therefore, women needed work, so they decided to contribute to their nations.
Suffragists and suffragettes stopped their campaigns as they believed war was more important than their cause.
Suffragettes played a huge role in persuading men to join army.
At the very beginning, women weren't allowed to do many jobs and their employment didn't increase significantly
However, In July 1915 there was "Right to Work" March organized, so women could held more positions. The leader of it was Christabel Pankhurst
Thanks to her movement, in 1916 a lot more women were hired in various sectors of economy
women in factories
Armed forces employed women
Women were driving trucks & ambulances
Women were allowed to do more jobs
The ideology that women's place is at home came back
The percentage of women at work returned to pre-war levels
More women worked at office
Different trends: shorter skirts, make up in the public area
Women started smoking
After the war, it was impossible for a woman to be disqualified from a job due to being single
