    The Baker County Board ofCommissioners appointed a Wolf Depre ation CompensationAdvisory Committee. The Committee makeup is as follows:

IThe Committee recommended to the Baker County Board of Commi sioners to apply for $7,501from the Wolf Management Compensation and P r o ~ a c t i v e Trust Fun . IIn the past year, Baker County has been fortunate to no t have any co firmed livestockdepredation from wolf activity. Previously, we had wolf depredation in the county and expectwe wil l see activity in the future.The Committee expects to use the funds in the following priority:

    1. Production ofmaterials for dissemination to livestock preduc rs ofbest husbandrypractices for livestock areas to dissuade wolf depredation.2. Development of Alert System to communicatewolf activity'get clear, timely information to producers.

    3. Compensation for Range Rider or other monitor ing act ivit ies hen possible depredat10nis likely.4. Purchase of flaggery to he used by County producers.

    The Committee intends to be the Lead in Baker County efforts to com Iy with the OAR's which 'deal with the C o u n t y ~ s obligations for compensation rates, proactive llsbandry methods andpolicies and procedures for implementing the Trust Fund grant progr

    A. INTRODUCTION AND PURPOSEOn June 24, 2011, the Oregon Legislature passed House 8i113560, which drected the Oregon Department ofAgriculture (ODA) to establish and implement a wolf depredation compens tion and financial assistancegrant program. using moneys in the WolfManagement Compensation and roactive Trust Fund to providegrants to assist counties to implement county wolf depredation compensati n programs under which:

    1. Compensation is paid to persons for livestock or working dogs t at are injured or killed due towolf depredation; and2. Financial assistance is provided to persons who implement lives ock management techniques ornonlethal wolfdeterrence techniques designed to discourage wo f depredation of livestock; and3. Compensation is paid to persons fnr livestock or working dogs ta t are missing due to wolfdepredation; and

    4. Compensation to counties for expenses allowed for implementin the block grant program in theircounty.The bill appropriated $100,000 of the state General Fund to implement tbe ~ a n t program.ODA's wolf depredation compensation and financial assistance grant progr un complements the OregonDepartment of Fish and Wildlife's Wolf Conservation and Management PI by developing and maintaininga cooperative livestock producer assistance program that proactively suppa s reducing wolf-livestockinteraction and compensates livestock producers experiencing wolf-related ivestock losses.B.GRANT SCHEDULE - TlMELINES IApplication ScheduleTuesday, January 17,2012 Application process opensWednesday, Feb. 15,2012 Grant Applications due in to aDAFeb. 16 - Feb 29, 2012 Review period (ODA reviews applica ' ons)Monday, Marcb 12,2012 Send out Grant Agreement and Award documents for acceptance andsignature.
