Dear Public Radio 90 Members,

Thank you for your continued financial support of WNMU, Public Radio 90.

So many things have changed in the last few months. The unprecedented crisis facing our country and the entire world has brought profound changes, upending everyone’s life in an incredibly short time. But the resilience and generosity of the people across our upper Great Lakes region is astounding, especially during times of great need. Thank you for remaining steadfast and strong in your commitment to WNMU, Public Radio 90.

It costs nearly a million dollars a year to keep Public Radio 90 operating and more than half of that comes from listeners like you. WNMU’s primary focus is on preserving and expanding the programming you’ve told us is important to your Public Radio 90 listening experience, but we need your help to do it. Local programs like Peninsula Performances, Sound Spectrum and In the Pines as well as nationally acclaimed programs like Morning Edition, All Things Considered and A Way With Words would not exist without listener support

Our Oktoberfest fundraiser begins October 1st and money raised will be used to pay for the public radio service you depend on for in-depth news from NPR and our own WNMU newsroom, and music and entertainment programs to soothe your soul and tickle your funny bone.

Oktoberfest 2020 is the first fundraiser of our 2021 fiscal year, and your continued financial support is vital. We cannot do it without you.

Thank you for sticking with us during this difficult time. We understand that many people have been financially affected by this world-wide crisis, so if you’re in the position to help pitch in a little extra for the people who can’t, please do. Any contribution you can make at this time, even a small one, will make a big difference

Thank you again for your continued generosity and personal commitment to WNMU, Public Radio 90.

With sincere thanks,

Evelyn Massaro, Station Manager

Thursday, September 24 through Tues-day, October 13, Jim FLeming reads Little Hawk and the Lone Wolf by Raymond C. Kaquatosh.

Raymond Kaquatosh was born in 1924 on Wisconsin’s Menominee Reservation. The son of a medicine woman, he spent his boyhood immersed in the beauty of the natural world and the traditions of his tribe and his family. When his father died, he was sent to Indian boarding school in Keshena. He was “Little Hawk.”

Wednesday, October 14 through Friday, October 30, Michele Good reads We Have Always Lived in a Castle by Shirley Jackson.

Shirley Jackson’s beloved gothic tale of a peculiar girl named Merricat and her fam-ily’s dark secret takes readers deep into a labyrinth of dark neurosis. This deliciously unsettling novel is about a strange, isolated, and possibly murderous family and the struggle that ensues when a cousin arrives at their estate.

Chapter a Day from Wisconsin Public Radio has been airing in Wisconsin since 1927 and

features a variety of readers. Episodes are available online for one week after they air.

Thursday: Deutsche Welle Festival

10/1 - We train the microphone on one of today’s most exciting conductors and on a brilliant young Russian singer: Paavo Järvi and Julia Lezhneva both perform and share their thoughts on this program from the festival Kissingen Summer.

10/8 - In May 2020, at the height of the pan-demic in Germany, Germany’s most famous orchestra performed at their home base, in an empty Berlin Philharmonie. We’ll hear that extraordinary performance with principal conductor Kirill Petrenko leading a subset of the Berlin Philharmonic.

10/29 - As a saying goes, “a crisis is a terrible thing to waste.” The worldwide pan-demic has forced people to be inventive. In concert life, that has to do with what is performed and how it is brought to the audience. We’ll sample a musical bridge spanning Germany and Russia, a unique performance of Beethoven’s Pastoral Sym-phony and a “ghost concert,” audience-free, in the Cologne Philharmonie – and a pretty lively one at that.
