The court house was filled with specta- tors on Thursday to listen to theeyidence given in the trial of William Buth which convmeflced on Tuesday... A• n t u a t e of la'dus weTein. the audience. A r 'number- of physicians were called to the witness stand and-the. day. was moatly occupied ;a faking the testimony of medical, ex- pert.*. Dr. JohBston,of Pcr-tLeyden, was the first witness, being called by the peopfe Witness, made the examination-at- the. uroe of the inquest, July 1-9 last. Found- the body of the deccpsed, Klosner, in a well-nourished condition, -with sign's of bruises about the face 1 and eyes, the bones of the nose fractured and turned to the. right. There were- no wounds on the head or scalp. Opened the cranium and found a biopd clot between the dura ma- ter and the arachnoid, membranes, in the right frontal portion of the brain, which was about an inch and a" half in diameter ' and perhaps an eighth of aninchin thick- ness,, with 'signs-of inflammation in the vicinity. Found no other signs'of injury to any part of body or head'. Cross-examined 'by defendant's "attbr- liey -Made no critical examination pf the clot, to leani whether ; the blood eonsti-' tuting the-same -bad been venious cr.ar- terial. ' The clot- seemed solid. In re- sponse te counsel,; .witnes.3 described, in. •full and technical terms," the. process pf'" •coagulation of .blood.;, stated that-these "results-may take-place in' ifl- to 14 days' ] time, yet not certain. - Witness had per--' soiislly made some seven or f-tgbt Bead dissections in which clots had been, found. The examination of fchebram was then minutely described; also usual' effects caused by the presence of a clot within the brain, such as in the present inatance.. He stated that the authorities recorded instances of serious head injur- ies and the patient recovered, or lived for some time thereafter,, yet it was not cer-. tain in these instances that the'wound or : lesion, had reached the. brain,. .- As to- the pressure upon the brain by -a. : clot or otherwise to produce death, did not'know that science yet established any rule. . Br. L.-'Kinkl-e, of- Bdohville, thehe±t witness, had known Elosner for- aome five years, but never as a patient until called at the time of the incident at .the Park house.' On the morning of •July:5^ 1.S89, found him in an unconscious con- dition, sitting on a chair i-a the sitting room, with.blood on faeeand-hosebrokeh and turned to. the right. When undress- ed and in ' bed' saw ho other bodily wounds, About an hour after had some signs of returning consciousness, Which- increased-at the time of afternoon. call' and on Saturday-.mbruing, when he was conscious but mind- unstable.
